  1. Hi mate, Keep going around to Apple Tree Bay where the boats launch. There is an easy side bit where you can launch and no mud like where you are launching at the moment. Try around the boat moorings, the little wharf (not the one next to the ramp, the one over near the boats) and also go for a longer paddle and try the drop offs in the small bays. there is also whiting on the flats. good luck. 2. Cape Le Grand is nice. Camping is behind the beach but you could drive on the beach when I was there (2003). Pretty good fishing. There are a few camping spots there but we chose the beach one.

    worming

This was written by Roberta some time ago. You can't get more detailed than that!
  4. After seeing this a few years back I always wear an inflatable when solo and I also bought a small epirb that fits in my pocket. I figure it’s money well spent.
  5. One of my favourite fishing spots in all of Australia is north of Broome at a place called Middle Lagoon. It's half way up to Cape Leveque. We had a tinny though. We just sat on the water and listened to where the tuna schools were busting up and headed that way. Heaps of tuna, spanish and even caught black jewfish and coral trout on the troll. You could go there and beg to tag along with someone there who has a boat. Maybe a donation of a case of beer would help. Further up you can flick lures at Cape Leveque. Tides are big so can be challenging. Take heaps of lures and wire trace if you get on to someones boat otherwise the trip back to Broome for supplies is a long one. I know, I've done it. I was there in 2002 & 2004 so a lot could of changed. A couple of stations on Gibb River Road have places to fish for Barra however it can be hard during the dry. In Kakadu a lot of people fish for Barra at the causeway at Cahills Crossing however the crocs there can be huge. You can hire boats and fish from the shore at Dundee Beach near Darwin. Even the harbour charters in Darwin harbour are ok. Things I wouldn't go without: Yabbie traps to catch cherabbin. Drop into any river with dry dog biscuits or leftover meat/bone scraps. They are one of the best tasting seafoods I've come across. They are killer barra bait too. Insect spray with Deet otherwise you will get smashed by insects. Epirb - as mentioned before. Axe/saw for fires if you're bush camping. Protection for your rods as they will get bounced around. I got a flanalet sheet, folded it several times and got someone to sew the side. Makes seperate pockets for all your rods. Rod bells so if you are lucky enough to be camping near a river you can set your rod up and sit by the fire waiting for the bells to go off. A strong spotty so if you do the above you can see the crocs. It always amazed me how many of those beady eyes you can see at night compared to the day time. Walkie talkies so when you are 2km up the river fishing you don't have to walk back 2km to say your still fishing and haven't been eaten by a croc. Have a good one.

    FADs

Went to Broken Bay FAD yesterday. No other boats. 300 odd dolphins and heaps of birds. Sounder saying 23.4 degrees which may be a bit inaccurate. Once dolphins left caught two dollies both small. Larger one went 55cm. Only trolled skirts. More dollies can’t be far off. There are three fish traps nearby so plenty to troll past or drop livies at if too busy at the FAD.
  7. Coral crab I think. Charybdis feriatus. http://www.qm.qld.gov.au/Find+out+about/Animals+of+Queensland/Crustaceans/Common+marine+crustaceans/Crabs/Coral+Swimmer+Crab#.XDcYVSLZXYU I got a few last year in the Hawkesbury. They taste good. I’ve also seen an increase in traps cleaned out and stolen this year. It’s such a shame.
  8. In 1980 I started the 13 steps to becoming a Buddhist Monk. After 10 years and on step 13 I was told to hand over my worldly possessions. I asked if that included my fishing rods. They said yes, so I went to the pub instead.
  9. If it makes you feel better here goes for my Saturday trip: Get down to Akuna late Saturday only to find they forgot to put my boat in the water (it's in the dry dock). Mechanic happened to be working on a boat and dropped it in for me (was dark by this time). Boat didn't start. Jumped it. Boated in pitch black and dropped the crab traps in. Tried to find a spot at Bobbin Head close to mangroves to catch a muddie. No muddies or fish for 5 hours. Went to bed. Got up a 6am and went to West Reef to get thrown around for an hour in the washing machine. No fish. Wrapped a line around the prop. Went for a troll past Box Head. Hooked up and lost it. Wind was picking up. Went to pick up the crab traps that were 200 metres apart. They were 10 metres apart and one was not closed. Thanks to whoever had crab Sunday night for dinner. Got back to Akuna, washed down the boat, went to the car and realised I left the car keys on the boat. Walked back to boat then back to car cursing why I went in the first place. Onwards and upwards from here.
  10. I would say stingray also. The big ones take off. Happened to me also in the past.
  11. You could try around the barges off Scotland Island for a kingie
  12. No boom gate or closing time. Good luck.
  13. Good luck. FYI I was down at Akuna Bay at 8.30am this morning and there was still quite a bit of fog around.
  14. Some nights/mornings can be total white outs so stick to the sides in a kayak

    Live bait

Yakkas are in most bays with moorings. Try Pinta or Waratah. Waratah had heaps a few weeks back.
  16. Hi All, Keep a close eye on your crab traps and lobster pots in Broken Bay as there is a thief on the loose. My lobster pot was taken Tues night/ Wed morning from Lion Island. PM me if you get offered one cheap or see one online!
  17. A mate just told me he saw the same thing an hour ago at Bobbin Head. They were feeding the bream at the marina when a monster went through and busted them up.
  18. If you ever get one don’t throw it back. Very tasty. A bit more salty than a blue swimmer. Similar to the saltiness of a prawn. The claws have white meat also as opposed to the browny meat in a blue swimmer. Now I just need to repair my traps as something ripped one and decimated the other leaving just a blue swimmer claw to tease me!!
  19. Hi guys, Caught this Coral Crab at the mouth of the Hawkesbury last night. Can’t see anything on Fishraider about them and not much on the web. Is it rare for the area and how do they taste?
  20. Well done. Did you go past the Sydney North FAD?
  21. Hi Luke, You can get graphite knottable steel leader. Mine is 15kg. 5 metres was $19. If you want the bait shop where I got it shoot me a PM and you can ring them to see if they still stock it. Brew
  22. Hey guys, I was in Americas Bay (Hawkesbury/Pittwater system) on Tuesday night when a commercial fisherman rocked up at around midnight. He was in a tinnie and set nets up hard against the rocks. He would set them up in virtual darkness and collect them in with full spotlights on. Just curious what he was going for, mullet, squid? Any one know?
  23. They’re made of bamboo rayon and modal. They feel soft and they say anti odour and blister free so we’ll see.
