hahah happens a lot more than i would like. Now Sabiki rigs are reasonably heavy so you can fight a fish long enough to make you think gotcha until is snaps off after 10 mins

Hi team, Made it out yesterday afternoon just down to cremorne point in the Kayak. Paddled around to a few spots with not much luck (one good bream). Decided to head in close to the shore and tie up to a buoy. I immediately hooked something large on the sabiki (i swear i am a world record holder for hooking d fish on the sabiki). Inevitably lost it as it headed down and tangled around the buoy chain. On my bigger set up the action happened straight away also with a few high 20cms snapper then got a really good one that engulfed my bait and took off. Managed to keep him away from all the ropes and got it in the yak. 36cm, second week in a row for legal snapper in the harbour. Really pleased with that and then the bite died off as quickly as it started. Its really hit and miss down there but can be good and such an easy spot to launch and paddle (as long as you're not frantically paddling across the channel when a ferry is coming. Thanks.

Hi All, Got out in the Kayak on Saturday, was freezing but had to do it. Launched as usual from Clontarf but not much happening in my spots so paddled around under spit bridge opposite spit reserve. Managed to get two decent snapper. I decided to keep these (at 31 and 32cm) as i must have released thousands of pinkies over the years. I think its about the 4th or 5th time getting legals in the harbour. What was more surprising is I suspect i pulled the hooks on a couple that felt a proper size. Serious weight, headshakes and hard to bring up. Paddled back and blasted the heater on in the car. Had plenty of time to warm up while sitting on the highway to hell that is military road cheers

thanks for the photo info BN. I've never eaten one (to be honest i'm not big on fish, my wife is the seafood lover). Was thinking about keeping it but it actually freaked me out a bit Ive caught a few around wharves and rocks but this was sitting in the deep water out from Clontarf. Thought it a bit odd to get one that deep with not much structure?

Hi, Managed to get out on the the kayak on Saturday. Was pretty quiet with not much being caught. I did however get this guy on an unbaited sabiki rig. Biggest I've seen. The best photo is too big to upload but it was dinner plate sized. Released.

Each time i go home and fish with my brother we are throwing these things back all day long in the hunt for gurnard and snapper. However, we will keep a couple occasionally and put them on the smoker. Use manuka chips and brown sugar.....absolutely delicious

yep, thats exactly what i have 2.7m. Use it all around middle harbour

right handed but wind with my left hand 100% of the time. always have to me it seems logical to have the rod in your dominant hand??? If i use someone else's gear (which are 99% handle on the right) i have to swap it over

Hi Guys, I fish there reasonably frequently from my Kayak. As expected Derek D has given A+ information. I tend to move around a lot and make it most of the way up to cremorne point. It can get a bit rough and windy that far up. A couple of good spots are out in front of the rowing (or is it sailing club?) club in amongst the moored boats. Pretty shallow but a lot of trevally and Tailor. I stay within the line of boats otherwise you'll get in the way of the ferry coming from old Cremorne. Flathead hang out in the channel in front of old Cremorne wharf (can be reached from the wharf itself). There are often a few good bust ups there. Hope this helps a bit thanks

Hi Peter, Cremorne point is my local, i reckon i've built up a bit of knowledge about that spot. I've fished around the lighthouse a few times and never had any luck whatsoever. There are some way more productive spots around the point on both sides. The side closest to the bridge (sorry hopeless with compass directions) i fish right at the back of the bay off the sand flat. The Manly side try off cremorne wharf or halfway along the rocks between the wharf and lighthouse. Pretty much every harbour species is possible from Cremore point. I use pilchards and chicken as bait generally and have some metals handy too. Also......is there a better spot for a couple of beers and fishing in Sydney? If so i need to see it. Hi, Got out in the kayak nice and early on Monday morning. I generally attach myself to any spare marker buoy in my spot. This has some advantages and disadvantages. I can drop down some burley and not drift around too fast and hold in the deep water however i always have to contend with the associated ropes. This time they won and i lost two big trevally around the ropes. I hooked a third and managed to steer it clear and into the kayak. Got all three on the sabiki while going for yakkas. They always tend to hit the sabiki as opposed to my other offerings hence i tend to try and find live bait rigs on slightly heavier line. Man they fight hard. I paddled across to the other side of the harbour and lost a big flathead at the net but managed one more while slowly drifting. Was great conditions with minimal drift and the sun warmed things (my feet) up nicely. So far there seem to still be some good fish to catch in the harbour (no kings around though that i saw) whereas previous winters ive struggled. Must have seen about 6 other kayak fishers out and about. Got to love a long weekend thanks

Hi, Ive used these in NZ (Waiheke Island) my mate who lives there showed me how to use them . I was slightly skeptical but they proved dynamite on the snapper. Ive got an orange one i take with me on the kayak in the harbour but havent got around to trying it. Perhaps this long weekend....

i've got one of these as it seemed like a really easy/lazy option for someone with little diy capability. Didnt want the hassle of installation on my kayak which is just one of the generic online jobs. I cant compare it to other sounders but by all accounts its pretty accurate re depth and bottom make up. I'm not too sure about its accuracy in marking fish. I mainly use it as a depth reader but somehow now feel a bit naked without it. Its as easy to use as youd think. Drop the reader thingy over the side about 15cm underwater and turn it on.

Hi, Went down to my local wharf on Sunday evening as i managed to bribe myself a three hour window away from the kids evening routine (fighting them into bath and bed) I usually just take a packet of pilchards to see whats around and when thats gone i head home. I was winding up a so far untouched bait pretty quickly and something sizeable nailed it. It was stripping line and going all over the place. Got a glimpse and saw a bonito, the first one ive ever hooked. As i got it in closer i could see about 4-5 kings chasing it and really trying to have a go at it. I managed to swing it onto the wharf but the hook pulled and it flapped back in before i could get a photo. Needless to say i put a metal on straight away. The surface started to boil and the place was alive with fish. I landed another bonito and a tailor. Both being followed in by bigger tailor and multiple kingfish. That gets the old ticker going. Unfortunately it only lasted about 20 mins then went completely quiet. Brilliant fun. thanks

Hi berrero, that's amazing. One you won't forget. I can relate I had a similar experience at Roseville bridge. Please dont think I'm trying to steal your thunder but I think mine was similar (not as big) We all rave about kingfish ( and rightly so) but I love trevally and I reckon they are right up there in pulling power. Hi all, Paddled out to my spot again in middle harbour last Friday. Great conditions. Been challenged to get a legal kingy before 30/09 . You guys know what it's like from a non fisher...." You never get anything to bring home' So I'm fired up to do the damage. Down to 4 days a week thanks to the Rona so had a good time to prepare and plan. I'm reliant on yakkas and they are seemingly hard to get at the moment. I managed one amongst the multitude of pinkies . It was perfect size so sent him down. You know how all fisher people have a 6th sense..it came in handy. For some reason glanced at the rod in the holder and it was bent over, grabbed it and hung on thinking challenge done. Alas 59cm. Not much else but it feels like a good summer coming on. One question , in middle harbour (close to spit bridge) where there is a decent current around tide change how do you berley? I use bread but it drifts away pretty quick. Any help ? Cheers

Agree with JAK middle harbour is sweet and anywhere from balmoral to spit

Great advice yowie....you'll see I'm pretty close to jumping out and swimming to shore Reckon 20m. Deep spot in middle harbour
