  1. Thank you guys. What is actually 'short stroker'? is this just a rod model/brand or type of rod?

    Lures and rust

HI All Thank you guys for the suggestions. I did not get a chance to get Inox as was busy with fishing during the long weekend (or whatever you may call this process in the dirty water)). Just out of interest I soaked a dozen of lures in vinegar over the weekend. Obviously it did not fix anything, however I was able to see how thin the metal became. 85% of rings and trebles moved to rubbish bin - as predicted. Here are some more questions please: 1. Some rings, seems, are not touched by rust/corrosion . Why is that? Are they likely made from some special metal? 2. Are freshwater trebles good for estuary fishing? 3. Red trebles, seems ,are resisting better to rust. Is there some explanation? 4. Is there good place to buy small trebles in small bulk - 50? 5. Do you wash Soft Plastic after fishing? 6. I read somewhere in the past that is suggested to keep a piece of wool or small sponge with some oil in the lure box to reduce the humidity etc? Do you know anything about it?

    Lures and rust

Guys, thank you very much for the suggestions. It is a really good idea to keep the used lures separately until they are washed and dried. I had a look on other forums - people are usually suggesting WD40 or soaking in vinegar to remove the existing rust. I want to clean them first before making decision what and where should be replaced. Not sure yet whether this will put the fish off or damage the lure plastic .
  5. I replaced my Blade bottom and tail hooks with doubles once trebles and rings started looking unreliable. It did not require the split rings and it did not impact hook up rate. Also, I tried to replace the Blade tail hook with a metal spinner oval tail similar to this .It looked nicer and more natural. I would not say that I was getting noticeably more bites, however it significantly reduced the hook up rate. May be the flatties in my area are not fat enough to grab the whole lure.
  6. HI All, I started from HB fishing, then moved into Soft Plastic fishing, then, after a while, I noticed a growing dark red mess in my HB lure boxes. Just wondering if you can suggest the efficient way : a ) to clean the HB lures/hooks from existing rust and corrosion b ) to keep them from rust and corrosion. Thank you
  7. Hi All During the recent bad weather I had a chance to review my growing fishing rod 'collection' and identified several budget rods purchased a while ago, that I am not quite sure their best purpose. These were 6'6 to 8'6 spin rods 2-4kg rods with slow or slow-medium taper and one 6' custom overhead (15kg?) slow rod with gimbal. I tried to use those light rods in the past in the estuary for light bait and lure land based fishing, however I found it is hard to cast with them and even harder to set a hook due to their slow response. So, would you able explain/ share your opinion where (what kind of fishing) the slow rods can be used? Thank you
  8. Hi All, I have been a passive member of the forum for the recent 3 years and active reader of it for the recent 5 years or so. I reside in Sydney Lower North Shore and fish usually 1-3 times per week in North Shore or Central Coast ( land-based SP/HB/bait in estuary, beach or rocks) with occasional trips to Jarvis Bay rocks. Usually it is a catch and release unless my fridge is finally empty. I am a 'nocturnal animal', so usually (but not always) I fish at night or after dusk. I am not a beginner. I started to fish when I was 6 y.o. in the freshwater in Europe with my dad long time ago, and was building my fishing rods (actually - fishing poles made from 'blanks' from the nearest forest) when I was 9. I had a long break in my 'fishing career' due to a number of commitments. Now I am back to my addiction and unlimited tackle collection. I enjoy reading local fishing forums (particularly in bad weather) - good source of tackle reviews, fishing rigs and and tactics discussions, latest local fishing reports and even some local fishing spots information. Hoping to buy a Hobie yak one day or find a regular fishing partner in the area for boating trips to chase the fish that could give a good exercise to my hands. Cheers, savit
