  1. We used to get catfish in some of arms of Darwin Harbour, same thing watch for the 3 spikes, the fish up there never came into the boat, The priest gave them last rites while they were hanging over the side of the boat.
  2. Re the hook setup, i just use Mustard open eye ganging hooks in either 3/0, 4/0, 5/0. i put the swivel on through the open eye and let it hang on the bottom of the hook, i then put the other hook eye through the swivel and close the eye. Also with this rig, fish lie salmon and tailor that twist and jump cant use the leverage of the other hook as it is free moving on the swivel. Give me a cpl of days and i will take a pic and put it up here. when i getting ready for winter beach fishing, i usually make up a few sets of each size so depending on the pilchard size , i have hooks for all sizes.I cut the pillie on and angle and put the top hook though the pillie eye and the bottom hook through the bottom of the sliced pillie. with the other piece , i put the top hook through the hard bit of the tail and the bottom hook through the bottom. The advantage is you dont waste as much bait.
  3. With regards to gang hooks, i am a long time beach fisho and an even older fisho showed me a great rig. i either use 4/0 or 5/0's but only 2 of them, i rig them with a ball bearing swivel between them and cut my pilchards in 1/2 . twice the amount of bait and very rarely miss a hook up. A cut bait pilchard attracts all sorts of fish from bream to tailor and salmon and flathead.
  4. many years at Merimbula wharf, clowns used to park their boats right in casting range at the wharf. One of the old locals, a war vet didnt take any crap so after losing line etc to a boat he started on them, he was hurling sinkers or whatever he could get his hands on at them, All you could hear was the sound of missiles bouncing off the tinny, the cops turned up and asked him to stop and also gave the guys in the boat a mouthful about parking the boat so close in to the land based fishos.
  5. Love to fish it but only picking my boat up this Sat, a week later would have been perfect.
  6. You didnt eat the carp did you?
  7. Thank you, i live in Port Stephens and at this stage , we get our boat at the end of next week, a new quinnie 420 renegade sc, Am looking forward to fishing the bay plus picking up some crabs from the Tilligery creek.
  8. Good to see some nice fish in the bay, hoping our new boat arrives in the next week or so. Then will be seeing what we can find in the bay. It will be interesting as have never fished the bay itself, mainly been land based for a long time.
  9. i am looking at the DPI guide now and it states 2 crab traps, up to 1.2 metres x 1 metre x .5 metre with 100mm bouy and max 4 entrances but none on top, mesh 50mm min size
  10. Shoal Bay ramp isnt bad but at low tide , it gets a bit shallow and its only a couple of minutes to the heads. We used to launch a 5.2 metre Haines there and had no dramas. I have just bought a Quinnie 4.2 Renegade and will be using Soldiers Point and Lemon Tree Passage ramps.
  11. I have a kayak i am selling if you are interested, have used it once and find it a bit big, Bought it on special for $750 down from $1400 and will sell it for $500. It has a deluxe seat and Lightweight paddle with it all included. It is a Malibu 4.3 metre long with a rudder.
