  1. Hi Henry, sounds exciting. Had a similar session on Jewies in February but couldn't set a hook into them. Were they busting you off on reef or pulling the hooks?
  2. No I was launching the boat and came over and had a look/chat. Funny… because I thought that little Flatty was yours too! I was thinking to myself, why would you keep a little Flatty with all that Dolphin Fish to get through haha
  3. You guys did well. I saw you at the cleaning table! Big swell to head out in too.
  4. Oh, and Jim sorry to seem so elusive. The hot bite came on the bottom of the low tide into the first two of the run in on the waning gibbous moon, 94% full and 16 days old. This Tuesday is the almost identical moon, (97% full) but all other variables are the same. I will be giving it another go pending good conditions. Bait was fresh big Squid strips and heads presented perfectly (I'm rather proud of my bait presentation skills) and it was at night.
  5. Thanks for all of the advice. I tend to agree with everything although some of what is covered in the YouTube video is hard to accept. I know that for example, since I posted this thread I have fished this spot of mine twice and been there on the same slack tide and caught Hair Tale, but no jewies. I still tend to think the Jewies mill about more on particular moon phases. The video "Local Knowledge" stresses this too. I'm going to try the identical moon in future and conclude the theory one way or the other. Stay tuned.
  6. Not long ago I was into one of the hottest bites I have ever had in the harbour. I was at anchor and barely had enough time to bait a hook before another run on a different line from a big Jewie. It was the kind of stuff dreams are made of. We landed a good one that didn't go anywhere near as hard as some I couldn't stop on 30lb (lost due to runs around moorings). I'm wondering if the secret to catching Mulloway rests around the moon and tide. Attached is a calender for the moon phases during February:
  7. Sweet fish bro. Should write a song about the trip
  8. Mitchy the fish you caught is a red morwong, also known as a Jackass Morwong, like yourself lol. This week looks awful now so will reschedule and try for one on the bigger outfits (with properly maintained gear and decent knots haha)
  9. I'm supplying this video to gather feedback regarding the fight to confirm for us the likely potential species and size. I was with Michie the night he landed the bigger of the Jews and was amazed at his success that continued through the week - definitely noteworthy conditions. I don't believe it is a kingfish because the runs are not long continuous and powerful which is in my oppinion typical when hooked up to them from a wharf, it definitely isn't a shark either because they would have clean bitten through the leader. The runs become shorter and there are tell-tale head shakes (called and evidently seen in the rod) followed by the pauses and then the new runs are all signs of another nice Jewy. I haven't hooked that many off wharves before but I am interested in posing the question to you, as to just how big you think the fish might have been? If any details regarding the outfit used are needed, they could be provided. Just after your thoughts, that's all, before we head out and try and land this bad boy or one of it's larger friends. 10. Mitchy, firstly well done again!! Hey the boat is going again - I bought a new battery this morning. Ready to go again next Monday? Conditions are looking good!
  11. The water is green and the temp has spiked. Once the fish adapt they will come back on.
  12. Good to see they are ion harbour. I held doubts..... last few sessions have been unproductive. Well done, would have gone hard on 4lb.
  13. I agree mate, kings nowhere to be found. They have been shut down for weeks.
  14. Thanks for that. I thought it was just me not catching them easily. They are very hard atm. Was out last week with live yeakkas, squid and slimies but couldn't find them anywhere. They have been about though - only a month ago we landed a couple of 85's just ion front of the gap and a dozen other legals, but for some reason they have gone off the bite. I'm going to give it another go this Saturday.
  15. I was using fresh Squid I had frozen from the previous session. Maybe live Yakkas would have worked better. "Hooked Up" I don't have a sounder but would be nice to have at least seen a few fish down there.
