  1. On the feed terminal I have my wire that goes to the accessories and also the wire that starts the outboard
  2. Thanks for the replies. I have attached another pic to explain exactly what the wires are.
  3. Do the battery switches ever become faulty - and if so is there a way to test it?* I have installed a second battery and connected the wiring to to the switch. I tested the wiring turning on my anchor light via the switch panel and it works. The problem I have but, is when I switch the battery to number 1 which is meant to be the start battery only the light was still on so it obviously is still being fed power by battery 1 and I don't know how.* I hope this makes sense... *I have attached a pic of the wiring.* Any advice appreciated.* Thanks* Geoff
  4. Thank you. I cannot seem to open it at work but will have a squiz when I get home. Cheers
  5. Yeah mate. Only one battery connected at present though.
  6. Hi everyone, Another question Could anyone please point me in the right direction of any Vids or links for wiring a dual battery system please? I just purchased a 100AH Deep cycle battery from BCF last night and want to wire it in with the existing battery to run my electronics. There is already a battery switch installed but I need a wiring diagram of what wires I need and how to wire the electronics from that etc. I am doing everything to my boat now like fixing the gelcoat and small screw holes etc (another thread) and I really appreciate the help and advice from those who know. Thanks Geoff
  7. So about the same size hole as mine Nathan? It's a round and clean hole possibly drilled with a small hole saw or something similar. Did you just put a backing on the hole and fill it with nothing but epoxy? If you could walk me through how you did it and maybe a pic of the result would really appreciate it mate.
  8. Hi all, I removed a fish finder transducer from the transom of a boat I just purchased as it was in the wrong spot. I now have a hole which goes completely through the transom and I'm not sure how to fix it. I have watched some youtube vids on how to fix the small screw holes which I am going to do with an epoxy I bought from Whitworths, but seeing the other hole is about a 10 cent piece in diameter I'm not sure if I'm meant to somehow plug the hole with something wood and then glass and gelcoat - or if I have to just glass it. Any tips or links on how to get it fixed would be extremely appreciated. Thanks Geoff
  9. Thanks everyone, and yep I am to blame for the crap weather :-) Wouldn't you know it I buy the boat on a 38 degree Friday and for Sat & Sun it rains non stop. Appreciate all of the advice and replies, and when I finally make it out I'll be sure to fill you all in.
  10. Appreciate the opinions and advice everyone. I ended up by buying the boat, I got it for $14,500. The motor is a 2002 model saltwater series and as I said I did have hull and motor pre-inspected for the cost of $200. He told me the compression was good, the sparks were strong and also said it was one of the cleanest Mercs for that age he had seen. I appreciate all the advice I receive from this forum and others I am involved with. I certainly listen to what I am advised and I take it all on board. With this boat it appealed to me for size and the Mrs was keen on this one as well, so based on the inspection I had done I decided to go with it.
  11. Yeah I took it for a test ride last Sunday and it was one powerful boat. I don't think he opened it up all the way as it was very choppy last week, and I had the kids in the boat also to see how it would handle the weight, and they were scared so he didn't give it full throttle. I also had a pre-purchase inspection done on the boat as I was very keen, but I dropped off as some members on another forum weren't that impressed with the boats looks, and they tend to think that it wouldn't handle too well outside. The inspection come back OK saying there is some gel coat repairs required on the very edge of the transom and under the hull from beaching (but not major) and the compression was 140psi for 3 and 135psi for the other. The sparks were all strong also and he reports there is no backlash in the gears. Huey said it would be a great buy for the 15k and I respect he's honesty as I was asking about buying a boat from him, and he could have quite easily bagged that boat to get me into one of his but he's an honest man and I really really have a great opinion of him. Any how I'm still not 100% sure what to do and I was going to drop down and have a look in Huey's yard and possibly a few others.
  12. Thanks Anthony. Any other opinions on it, I like any feedback I receive. Thanks
  13. Hi all, As the thread says, just wondering peoples opinion on these outboards please. The boat I am looking at is a 2002 model Saltwater series. Thanks Geoff
  14. Thank you huey appreciate it mate. Was wondering if it were worth it for $15,000 and just wanted some more experienced opinions, and now I'll check out the boat and make sure it isn't in bad condition. Thanks Geoff
  15. Hi all, Looking at buying the attached boat for $15K and I'd like some opinions from the experienced boaties if it looks like a good buy please. I'm yet to have a a look at it physically but depending on the feedback I get I'll go and have a sticky tomorrow. All I know of the boat is that it is a 17ft 1995 hull with a 2 stroke 125 Mercury on the back. I'd really really appreciate any opinions. Thanks in advance guys.
  16. Yep, I'm another one who has it on a android phone. I installed a ciggy socket so I could charge my phone while in use on the boat.... as the others have said definitely chews your battery up while in use.
  17. Cheers Juggs, but have no mates with a bigger boat I'd love to have my own anyway so I can go when I want, leave when I want etc etc.... Starting to lean back towards a glass boat now.... I atleast need over a 5 meter job though.
  18. Thanks tastee. Any feed back for a Ally Craft Sea Flyer? I can pick one up here a 5.1m up for under 12k with a 97 70HP Johnson outboard on the back. Are these boats any good? Thanks Geoff
  19. Thanks mate.... and you guessed it, I'm in a hurry If I were to go outside a bit, I would pretty much only go out with just my young bloke and say one other normally I would say. I don't mind being a bit cramped if I'm with the family as I usually don't fish when I have the kids as I help them and the Mrs don't fish then either, so if a 4.75 would do me for that I'd have to strongly consider one
  20. I think the one in the link bellow looks good, but bit unsure about the outboard. I don't think I've read too many kind views on Johnson outboards. <<<Link removed by Tef1on>>>
  21. Thanks for that Jason. I wish I could stretch it to 20K mate but don't think can. But a big thumbs up from you for that type of boat... you reckon the 4.75 wouldn't be any good to me mate? Cheers Arob, Are they a wide beam boat at all? I see and like with some of the aluminium boats that they seem wider than the glass boats... one thing I love about my glass boat at the moment is the deep sides on it, makes you feel better with the young ones on board and its more comfortable for standing fishing when you get sick of sitting down.
  22. Hi all, Have decided I'm going to buy a new boat, but seeing I don't have much of an idea what would be the best boat to get? If I could get some preferences from the experienced boaties from this forum on what I should go for please it would help me choose the right one. I'd like a boat that I can get outside in on a good day with the young bloke fishing just off shore around the heads and just past etc, but also have the power and stability to have the whole family (the Mrs and 4 kids) with me and have room to take them in a deep bay somewhere where its not gonna upset everyone or look like sinking if the weather kicks up a bit. After owning a glass boat I'm leaning towards getting an aluminium boat now, but I'm not sure of a good type of hull or even boat in particular I should go after. I've looked at a few today that I like and are in my price range of $15,000 - $17,000 but I'd like to know if they can handle what I would want to do with them. I like the looks of the, 2002 QUINTREX 475 BAYHUNTER CAPRICE, the 1999 BROOKER 525 DISCOVERY CUDDY CABIN, the Quintrex freedoms port but its a bow rider and not sure I like them due to deck space. Any advice is very much appreciated. Thanks Geoff
