Thanks kingfisher84, I'm going to try that this weekend, I had my drag set very loose so that the jew can take the fish and run, because I have read that in a lot of forums if it senses any tension on the bait it will let go :/ obviously not lo!What would be a good fighting drag 2-3kg strain?

Was using fresh squid for bait and size 5/0-6/0 hooks..

Went fishing last night in the harbour, had four rods in the water, and got about 6 runs, drags were all set loose so that there was no tension when the mulloway got the food to run, runs were short only lasted about 3 seconds then stop, then Afew minutes later same rod goes off for another 3 seconds, tried leaving them but the runs wernt lasting long enough, so on the next few tried striking and still didn't work seems to just pull the bait out of there mouths, what could of been the problem? Small juvenile mulloway? Or..? Also just want to get some feedback on the how the rest of you guys do it? I fish land based so leaving the drag tight wouldn't be a good idea, also that I hear any tension on the bait and the mulloway will spit the bait back out.. Cheers

Hey longy, not in the morning mate there was only Afew fishermen there, I was already fishing by 6, but I can imagine as the day went on it gets pretty full down there cheers! Hey ilovebonitos mate I personally think you gota get there early, seems to be more bites for some reason or another! Cheers

Fishing lake Illawarra this morning around 6.00am, managed to snap up 4 beautiful whiting all over 30 cm largest measuring 34cm, and 2 nice bream at 27cm. Here's some pics:)

Hello raiders, yesterday myself and my fishing partner were fishing from a secret mulloway hotspot on the lake Illawarra, what a beautiful night it was the sky was clear the stars were shining bright, we knew we would be in for one heck of a night, as we got our special made bait ready "squid strips dipped in ajvar" for those of you wondering "what's ajvar?" It's a traditional macedonian chilli spread! We left the squid strips in the ajvar for about 3-4 days so the squid strips could get that special scent sunk into the strips, as we casted the rods we had abit of action on them seem to be the usual bream and whiting about, so we just sat back on our foldable chairs and drank a few mixes of scotch and coke while listening to macedonian music, Also eating burek which we purchased earlier from "bitola burek cringila" big shout out to "pece" for making them for us!! It's about 12.30am now as we hear "Bzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz" We look over and the line is just running as my fishing buddy nikola gets up races over to the rod and lifts it up striking the jew, he was fighting for at least 20mins finally as we see that silver body shinning I quickly got up and grabbed the net, as we got it into the net we start celebrating and singing to the macedonian music we had on!! What a fight it gave us!
