I'm spending the weekend at Culburra with the family for some quality time, but fortunately the fishing is very close so I can do both! Took my 4-year-old son to Greenwell Point wharf to make sure we caught a few tiddlers just using prawns and a float. But after landing 5 bream and a chopper tailor he said he was bored of catching little stuff and wanted something big! Up for the challenge, I took the whole family to the beach south of Penguin Head south of Culburra Beach (sorry not sure what it's called). The beach was dead calm which didn't look good, but bust ups everywhere which got me going. Ended up landing 2 tailor and 1 salmon on pilchards. I would have caught more but I kept on catching shovel nose sharks - 10 in total!!!! And removing the gang hooks was a bit tough without pliers (which I lost earlier at Greenwell point - thanks son!) had to call it quits as the kids were getting restless and hungry, but a good day nonetheless. Gday Fishraiders, hit the eastern suburbs Sydney Harbour this morning with some fellow raiders Royce, Trevor and Andrew. I'm a newbie when it comes to black fishing so Trevor and Royce kindly showed me the ropes when it comes to these finicky fish. What a duo, the knowledge between these two fellas is astounded and when it comes to catching blackies they'd be two of the best! Thanks fellas for sharing and teaching me some of the tricks. Heaps appreciated! All in all a pretty good morning netting about 16 fish and keeping 12 for the table. I'd like to say I contributed to the tally, but truth be told most of them fish were caught by others. But I did land my first blackfish in a long time measuring up at 38cm which I was stoked with. Made the most of the low swell to fish Julieannes at Little Bay. Arrived pre-dawn and used a combination of floating pilchards and squid and lures. Got nothing... Nothing. Tried around the the corner for nilch too. 6 other guys spun lures and coconut rigs for 4 hours straight for nothing too. To add insult there was a massive school boiling up about 100m from shore - just out of casting range! It's been slow off the stones lately, hope things pick up soon, tight lines everyone! There's a great story in a recent edition of Australian Fishing that gave some great tips about fishing the Forster Breakwall. If you don't want to buy it I'll summarize it: fish for bream very close to the Breakwall. Use whitebait with a very small sinker right on the hook and just let it sink about 10 foot out. Don't chuck out in the middle. My dad also fishes the Breakwall for Jews. He uses live bait normally slimies or Yakkas caught on site and walks the live bait along the wall with the tide. For the record the taking of blue groper by any means is prohibited at Clovelly and spear fishing is banned too. It's really not the best line fishing spot either. Mostly I think it's people fishing if shark point is too rough. My view is leave it to the swimmers Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Hi all, I'm thinking of rock fishing at Burning Palms south end platform on Fri. Swell 2m-2.5m coming in. Has anybody fished it and how does it hold up? Agree with tef1on's comments. A lot of newbies also seem to fish here... It can be quite dangerous so watch the swell and tides, anything over 2m and forget it, even 1.5m can be scary depending on the swell direction and tide. I've arrived here twice at dark and decided not to fish. It also can be a difficult spot to fish as there are about 3 or 4 staggered rock ledges. At low tide and low swell you can stand at the lowest point. But if the swells up you need to stand up higher and the chance of snagging is much higher. I see lots of rigs lost here while retrieving or trying to bottom bash. It's also a hugely popular king spot in summer. It's not uncommon to arrive at 5am and find 4 guys already fishing with love bait caught elsewhere! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
