  1. no one fishing for blackfish. A few weeks ago a group of 6 were all black fishing but only managed a couple while I was there.Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. Hit the rocks at north Maroubra from about 5am to 7.30am. Pretty slow, scored one nice salmon but no other touch all morning. This spot can really fire when they're on, but clearly they're not really on... Few other guys there fishing for drummer and optimistically kingfish but got nothing when I left. Also got in trouble from the missus going fishing while she was sick, hence early departure, oops! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. Anybody fished the Maroubra rocks recently? It was slow a couple months back, just curious if it's picked up yet? Thanks Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  4. Don't take it personally, I know how you feel, I've been out four times in a row for nothing now. When land based that's just how it is sometimes I guess, the fish aren't always there or interesting in your bait and it's harder to relocate to a new spot. I've had some good times too can't complain too much! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. I've always has trouble getting big distance when using whole pilchards and a star sinker. Also you can "crack" the cast too much otherwise like you say you end up losing the bait, so you end up doing more of a Lob cast. It sometimes doesn't matter, as often they are feeding at your feet! 6. 3 gang hook holds the pillies nicely. 2 can be tricky to rig sometimes Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. Nice report, thanks for sharing your story Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. Bad luck on not landing them. You've done well to pick a day you could fish that spot. The swell has been huge the past few weeks Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. Nice... They are fussy at the moment. I've zero'd on my last two outings
  10. If my misery helps another fisho then I'm happy!
  11. Had a crack off shark point, Clovelly this morning. Not a bite for 3 hrs on lure or floating pilchard. The pelagics are just not there at the moment. Met a guy coming back who said the drummer are going off at the moment. That info would have been more useful at 4am this morning! Anyway that's fishing
  12. Man I gotta learn how to blackfish Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. Yep near Mahon pool Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. Went out early on Friday for a rock session targeting tailor/salmon. 3 hrs and not one nibble! Was my first time out for 8 weeks since my wife gave birth so I was keen to go. Bit surprising as the last four times I've been out I've returned with a bag full of tailor each time. Same technique and time. I reckon I jinx it by talking up how much I was looking forward to fish and chips for Friday dinner! That's fishing hey. I did get this top sunrise though Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. There are lots of bream and whiting in the lake. They are easy to catch on light tackle using prawn or pilchard. I caught about 10 but none were legal size. But where there are small ones, bigger ones follow! Just watch out for swimmers in summer Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  16. I'm sure they'll be salmon off the beaches this time of year. Flathead will also attack soft plastics. I personally prefer bait fishing off the the beach... It's just less effort that 500 casts and retrieves, that's just me Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  17. Cut all the red meat off the tailor fillets as that's the stronger tasting flesh which most people don't like. The reminding white flesh is soft and delicious and I agree with yowie that crumbing and pan frying is a great dinner. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  18. No it doesn't. I run 30 pound braid on mine so if I'm targeting kings or big tailor off the rocks I'll add a stronger leader, if I'm fishing for blackfish I'll add a light 10 pound leader, doesn't make any difference. Plus the braid is so darn expensive! The perfect solution would be to have 6 different rods and reels and line setup for every type of fishing you want to do, but this is an expensive way to do it Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  19. I often fish with a paternoster rig with a star sinker at the bottom and whole ganged pilchard about 1m up. It's not very aerodynamic so my casting distance is not very long. However most of the fish I catch are within 50m of the shore anyway so it doesn't really matter Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  20. I caught about 25 salmon/tailor on dark in winter a few years back. But I've also fished it for nilch... That's fishing hey Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  21. I got a nice tailor off penguin head - which is the headland on the south side of culburra beach. It was blowing a gale that say so tough fishing. Personally I've never had much luck off the beach Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  22. Just have to say congratulations to everyone for sharing information and helping each other catch a fish or two. This is what fishing and human kind is all about. Too many people these days are happy bragging about their catch but secretive about the details. Well done guys. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  23. Thanks everyone for your tips, I appreciate you sharing. I will venture out over winter to tackle the dark art Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
