  1. thanks fellas, will give it a shot next time im down there.
  2. Thanks for the replies, guys, the beach in front of Lake Wollumboola did the trick, there are plenty of worms there so thanks Green Hornet! Marks, any chance you can be a bit more specific where the sandbanks are in the shoalhaven are for yabbies? Thanks
  3. Forgot to mention, the moat reliable flathead drift is approx due east of big marley beach, start in the 30m depth zone and if that doesent produce keep heading east till you hit the 40m zone etc. Again, the earlier you are out there, the better.
  4. I have caught bonito trolling lures through washes at ANY headland along the way down south. Get in nice and close to the headland (around 15m will do) if the conditions allow and you will be rewarded. Doing this will also get you a rat king here or there but i have lost lures to larger specimens too..... Ps: get out there nice and early, troll as the sun is coming up.
  5. Hi guys, i have been stuck for a little while in finding beach worms around currarong or the calalla bay/beach area. I have tried locating worms from kinghorn point south all the way to the start of the sanctuary zone and have come away for 4 worms (i only saw those 4). I have also tried worming in calalla bay around the creek opening but i have not raised any worms there. If anyone can offer a hand with some likley spots i would appreciate it. PS: Likewise for any areas to pump yabbies fairly close. Thanks!
  6. Everyone is spot on, but...... I must say, Kiwi, the paper charts rule has gone the way of the dodo (just recently). Electronic copies of charts are acceptable now as well. (as of last July) though i prefer good old paper maps. http://www.rms.nsw.gov.au/maritime/safety-rules/safety-equipment/safety-equipment-table.html
  7. We need a link or something... this is certainly not good news as i almost exclusively fish these areas............

    Surf Reel

Im an Alvey man too and it constantly amazes me how people seem to avoid them for beach fishing.... Comparatively cheap and will outlast you, all you need to do is spend an afternoon or two learning (and appreciating) these reels for beach fishing. I am aware that the OP already has a rod, but he is looking to spend $300 on a reel. That almost gets you up there with a decent alvey combo.
  9. Thanks Rick, will be sure to give it a go. Any chanec you have a GPS reading to the texas reef? (the half way out one?)
  10. Hi Everyone, Im going to have a bit of a break up on the Central Coast and i was thinking of towing the boat up. I have been fishing the Central Coast fairly heavily for 10 plus years land based, be it beaches, rocks or estuaries, but i am at a loss when it comes to spots boat based. The boat is a Quintrex 470 coast runner and i am a capable and very safe skipper but im not willing to go out to texas reef (just a bit too far of a stretch for me in unknown waters). Theres not much more i can find gps marks wise around norah head. Bird island always looked fishy from Budgewoi Beach and i would be willing to make the run in good conditions (and anywhere north, south or west within that radius but i think any further would be stretching it in relatively unknown waters for me. So im really looking for some tips, hoping to target snapper but kingies would be great (which means i would also need a squid spot in the area ) Any help or tips would be appreciated wether in reply on the forum or if its a secret spot then a pm would be great. Thanks!
  11. pretty much did the same thing mate, but with larger diameter pvc and about 3 meters length... made a great beach rod holder for the roofracks.
  12. Yowie, try straight out from the bay in 40 meters or so next time your out. Saw a bloke who pull some quality flathead out sunday morning (all 50cm plus).
  13. black humor at its best salty! This one shouldnt be too hard to spot right?! i mean, its not like they stole a chocolate bar! geez some people are dumb!
  14. with a bit of time that will be a lobster hotspot!!!! oh dang!. did i say that out loud?!
  15. i fished deep in some reliable snappers spots south of the hacking for a doughnut and bugger all on the sounder so looks like n close might be the go next time!
  16. Because swell reports can be soooooo off sometimes, i always check the wave rider buoy data in the mornings. At least i know im reading actual data rather than a guesstimate. The data can be found here: http://new.mhl.nsw.gov.au/data/realtime/wave/Buoy-syddow
  17. Looks great but im not sure what im looking at mate. Can you explain how the dehooker works?
  18. Did you answer your own question there mate? If you picked one up straight away i would place my bet on saying that 'yes' they are still around. Always remember, the sport is called FISHING... if you caught something every time then it would be called CATCHING!
  19. I think Krispy caught an adult (attains 16cm) The horizontal mouth/head striping present on krispys fish matches that found in the book, so does the blue colour found on all the fin fringes as well as all fin shapes. The eye is the same and the spot present on the top of the operculum matches that found in the book. The book also states that colour varies from green to brown... I still cant be 100% certain but i feel im not going to get it any closer so i will be happy calling it.

  21. the old punchy bernard rig. Hace read about it a while back but have never tried it.. looks like im going to have to give it a shot!
  22. i know a bloke who catches yakkas in the hacking and karts them live in his ute to woolongong beaches as live bait for jew. He has been doing this for a while so i dont think that he has had no success doing this.....
  23. im thinking the same.... neoodax balteatus though pics on google are rubbish. The pic in my reference book is remarkably similar (closest to this pic http://portphillipmarinelife.net.au/images/species/species_519975.jpeg)
  24. I saw a shimano thunnus in action the other week and it looked the goods so have a look at them as well!
