  1. You have it backwards. The older/larger fish are the breeders. Flathead start breeding at 22cm in length. So by the time they reach 36cm they would have had about 10 spawning cycles (they have 5 a year between Nov to June). I for one would much rather keep the size limit at 36cm and reduce the bag limit. Because in almost 20 years of fishing i have never bagged 10 dusky flathead in a day. Have you?
  2. Dusky flathead are much more spread out and not as numerous as say the offshore species like blue spots, marble and tigers. I think most fishos would be having a really good day to find 2 or 3 legal size duskies in a session. Let alone 5. As long as they dont change the bag limit on the offshore species i cant see this really impacting many people. Ps. Its so woke to say....wake up 🤣🤣
  3. Very Impressive catch on fly. Good work
  4. Welcome to Fishraider Denis. @DerekD is a gun fisherman and has a wealth of knowledge that he is more than happy to share. Good on u fellaz
  5. Thanks Pickles. A memorable fish for sure ! Whiting fillets make for amazing table quality. One of my favourite to eat
  6. Thanks Z. We had whiting fillets last night. Delicious !!!!! Hopefully well find a beakie to put onboard this summer season Thanks Rummers. He put an awesome fight and i was concerned the 12lb leader would pop but it held up ok. Especially when the surf is rolling back downhill pulling the fish with it. Prime time territory for leader popping.
  7. Thanks Dave - ive sent you a private message Thanks Gordo HA - looks like you havent been on fishraider very long and dont know me from a bar of soap. I am more than happy to share information on locations..to loyal fishraiders......to those who have been on the forum long and are active contributors. I dont share locations for the ghost stalkers to pick up. PS had a looksy of your profile, only two reports with some very generic locations noted...hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. Practise what you preach brother Thanks Noel - yep. any fisho worth a grain of salt would know beach fishing is very dynamic changing daily. where i fished last night might be useless tomorrow ! Sand gutters move all the time. Thanks Yowie. he pulled pretty hard, thought it was a salmon! cheers Isaac. Hope you can get out soon Thanks Bessel Cheers mate Thanks Rebel - it was good fun. Very relaxing. Mmmmmm yep had a look at your only two reports on fishraider and didnt find any maps 🧐 Hi Lakelad - i use a worm that is slightly longer than the length of the hook - say 1cm longer. I feed the worm onto the hook through the guts and then at the very end i bring the hook out and bring it in once more side to side as almost like a "knot"
  8. Gday Raiders Its been a while ! Bad weather has been a curse. Unable to take the boat out, the itch to cast a line was becoming unbearable. So i packed up work early yesterday and headed up to the northern beaches for some sandy R & R. Armed with live tube worms and red long shank hooks i walked the beach until i found a very obvious gutter. First cast onto the target species. Whiting. Fished from 7 to 10 and packed up with a decent bag of whiting and a solo bream. The biggest whiting was a nice thick horsie at 44cm, couldnt beleive my eyes when it came out of the surf. I quite enjoyed the relaxing sunset over the water with the sound of the surf breaking and it was a nice change up from the usual boat prep and wash down of the weekend bottom bash. Though admittedly i do hate how the sand always inevitably finds its way into your gear. Heres hoping for some better weather this weekend. Thanks for reading Sam
  9. Id ditch the circle hooks permanently. A bit of a marketing gaff to be honest. 90% of the time fish can be safely dehooked and returned to the water.
  10. Welcome.to fishraider champ Im with BN. Ditch the circle hooks.
  11. My thoughts are f$#! this crap. 14 weeks of lockdown and it was sunny and low winds. As soon as lockdown ended its been raining for practically 4 weeks straight ! I dont mind getting wet whilst fishing as long as its warm. But the problem is the wind and the swell. I fish exclusively offshore unless i take the kids out for a fish in which case ill fish inside the bay. Hopefully there are a few days with light rain and low wind/swell so we can at least get out there and chase some pelagics this summer
  12. Great report Z - good to see you get out and enjoy a day on the water. PS thats not Wayno - that IS John Howard 🤣
  13. Great report fellas - awesome stuff. Ive been on fishraider since 2014 and this is the first photo i see of the man himself @Yowie. I expected to see a few handlines wrapped around his holster belt
  14. Amazing footage. Interesting how the 5 flathead were all piled up next to each other
  15. Wishing you a speedy recovery wazza. get well
  16. Come on guys. Pack up the negativity and whinging and put it away in the deepest box you have. We dont want to hear the debating and discussion anymore. Theres been plenty of time for that. We can go fishing from Monday. Thats all that matters 🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳 TIME TO CELEBRATE
  17. NOT a report but....... WHOS READY TO GO FISHING FROM MONDAY AND BEYOND.🥳🥳 I plan on putting at least 100 hrs on my engine this summer 👊🤞 A little cheesy i know but, i might shed a tear when i get to the ramp. That salty sea breeze i have been day dreaming about for months.
  18. I have the 6200 yellowfin HT. I used to have this problem. There are two tubes that run from the deck to the scuppers. I found that whenever i wash ky boat inevitably some dirt/debri will.wash down the tubes. Over time, the debri stops the squash ball from fully closing. I remove the scupper cap and clean it out every month. No more water coming in.
  19. Great work big fella. you will never forget your first king !
  20. When restrictions are lifted ill be taking a week off. First trip will be either Northern Beaches reef bash or Bellambi. Then maybe go wide for a early season Marlin ? That would be first week of december. @zmk1962and @Yowie how about you fellas jump onboard with me for the day and i will be the referee on bait vs plastics challenge !
  21. Great work Yowie ! Lucky you mate. Some good eating fish there
  22. Gday Raiders It goes without saying - im itching to get out for a fish as im sure many of you are too. Just wanted to say hello and hope everyone is safe and healthy. This is a difficult time for everybody, weather your struggling for work, mentally or simply bored out of your brains. Dont be afraid to reach out to a friend. We all need to stand by each other in true aussie form. I miss reading the flood of reports and its good to see a lucky few managing to get out. Hopefully we will all be back on the water as soon as possible. Thanks Sam
