  8. G'day Raiders Yesterday I decided to fish Botany Bay with dad, we launched the boat at 6am and headed for our usual go to spot, burleyed hard for 20mins before the we started seeing any fishy activity. First in was a nice just legal bream going 25cm, then another just legal bream at 26cm. Then two more after that!. Four just legal bream within 20 mins , awesome , afternoon tea sorted ! Shortly after the yakkas and other smaller fish showed up and it was hard to keep the baits in the water long, we boated a couple of undersized pinkies, and a few yakkas which I kept for bait. We decided to head out towards kurnell headland we anchored up dropped some live baits down and continued on with baits and plastics, dad got a colorful fish which I can't ID ( someone can ID this fish please ) and then dad dropped a bigger model trev which he had boat side and went for one final five busting off his leader. Nothing touched the live yakkas. We decided to head back to another spot near the runway, and again burleyed hard. We must have anchored up over the magic spot because for the next hour it was fish after fish plenty of trevally, bream and pinkies. We boated four more legal bream and one legal trevally and probably let go about twice as much undersized. I flicked some plastics around at each spot hoping for some flatties but as usual donut on the flathead :/. 11o clock the wind kicked in and we were packing up, bringing in the last line and up came a little scorpionfish, iv cought and read about these nasty buggers before so decide to use a pair of pliers to pull the hook out of his top lip, he wasn't very impressed with this and at lightning speed kicked around and sunk his dorsal spines right into my thumb ! F@*$ that hurt ! Cut the line threw him back into the water and went straight for the anchor to lift up and head back to the ramp, but the anchor wouldn't come up, pulled as hard as possibly could but nope. Tied off the anchor rope and decided to give it a solid tug with the boat motor, but no success , I drove around like a madman for about 10mins with the anchor pulling me in circles. By this time my thumb was absolutely aching and I couldn't take it anymore, so I succumbed to surrender and cut the anchor off. Headed home with a feed, a sore thumb and my tail between my legs. Now need to buy a new anchor, rope and chain. I guess just another days fishing. Ps, I can't upload the pics from the phone but will do so tonight. Sam

  11. I cought a samsonfish some time ago and did some google research on best eating methods and found this in a forum...... I can't say for sure but just to be safe you might wana do some more research? """"Samson fish are prone to having a perasite in their flesh (kidoa). this perasite is not something you can see when filleting. (not this particular perasite anyways. which is reasponsible for the bad taste/texture) some fish have the perasite and some dont. from my expierience fish under 10 kg have a 50/50(+ or -) chance of having it and as the fish get bigger,it is more likly to have it. i would say that fish over 20kg are highly likly to have this perasite. the perasite makes the flesh of the fish go mushy texture.. once cooked (the enzymes released by the paracite brake down the protein i.e. flesh). only after cooking the fish can you conclude it has it..often ppl would say that its bad eating and in the particular case of a fish with a perasite i tend to agree.""""""
  12. Hi Mate I have been fishing land based for the last 5 years and only recently got married last year. I bought a boat in May this year. What I have found to work best is honest and open communication ( assuming your partner is reasonable and fair), and just being diligent with general house and family duties. I go fishing every week if I can, preferably on weekends and on my boat, if we both have weekend plans I use my past landbased spots for a night time fish. I don't neglect my commitments to go fishing and in return I take the best opportunity during the week to go wet a line. This generally works well and my missus is happy. I have an unfair advantage (over some others in this forum) in that we don't have children as yet, so while I'm out fishing on the weekends or weeknights my missus also has the opportunity to have some girl time with her friends, shopping, coffee catchups or just having her own relaxing time at home. I guess once children come along this agreement may have to adapt, but the theory is the same. Make time for the wife/house and then take the best opportunity in the week to go fish. There have been some weeks where there's too much to do and no time to fish, but on the flipside I have had weeks where I have been out on both Saturday and Sunday ! Common sense can go a long way.
  13. Hi All My favourite eating fish is the humble flathead, though in an ironic and evil twist Mother Nature seems to give me other species. The question is, are there any soft plastics that the flathead prefer and consistently perform better than other soft plastics ? I currently target them with some 100mm paddle tails in mullet/sardine type colors and the gulp nuclear chicken 100mm. Any advice would be appreciated Cheers Sam
  14. Nice bream mate have to agree even a fish less session on the beach is good for the soul haha !
  15. Bad luck on that king mate ! That's a nice size Samson, are they any good eating ? I've read somewhere before that they shouldn't be eaten raw (don't know if people usually eat them that way anyway).
  16. Wow!! That's a real crocodile mate Well done !
  17. Hi guys Sorry for very late notice but I'm going Wollongong tomorrow and will have 4 hours to spare can anyone recommend some good spots to wet a line ? General locations and bait would be much appreciated il be land based. I've heard windang is pretty good ?
