  1. Bass report, 13th Dec 2014. So I went out on my own this morning, down a man (Ben). Tried a new spot to recent weeks. Geez, somebody get this man a coffee with his donughts. Got a big fat ZERO. After some walking arrived at my first cast around 515 am. It was tough going, mossies biting, but nothing else. Small lure whack first few casts and then made my down the banks. No luck. Found a beautiful little honey hole with all the potential in the world. No luck. Something very big was moving in the water, exciting times. Lost a lure and did some more walking. Called it time when it started raining at 7am. Flicked a few with fast retrieve on my way back to the car and managed a feisty little bream hit my beautiful rapala X lure. Unhooked. Home by 8am and ready for another more productive session tomorrow. Cheers, Dylan
  2. Bass report, 14th Dec 2014. gday all, just had one of the most frustrating bass sessions. Spent half the time losing lures or getting lures out of trees. Heavy vegetation is taking its toll. Tail whacked and could see multiple bass watching Lure!! By the time I lost another lure I cracked the shits and decided to do some recon on new spots. Did some driving and walking. I did manage to land this guy first few casts - bullrout (freshwater stonefish) - his spines are dangerous, handled with care (grip glove) and released back in.
  3. Cheers guys. Another report coming over the weekend. Yeah, one questions, I'm always afraid to walk in the water because I fear I will scare off the bass. If the lure is closeby reckon I should just get in and get the lure and just move down spots? Cheers (PS- big big big eels in there... will they attack HA)
  4. Report two: Sunday bass report - Rod in water by 5:15. Beautiful morning as always. Hit our usual go to sections and no hits immediately. A few THUMPERS splashed the surface nearby.. After 45 minutes Ben had worked his way down the banks and BOOM, good take and run on retrieval. My new berkely fat dog lure did the job. Beautiful little bass measuring 22cm. Can't complain, although it didn't fight well. The terrain is brutal and very hard to cast. Shortly after I lost my lure in a tree. Bugger! Worked out way down further, both had another hook up and lost in water. Gets the heart racing! All in all one fish, some missed hook ups and a beautiful morning (only fished 2 hours) Cheers, bass hunters! Will provide another update this weekend.
  5. Hi admin, can you please change the title of this thread to ongoing bass fishing reports south coast nsw & surrounds (more accurate) Gday Morwong, i'm not really too keen on sharing the spots as you may understand mate
  6. Hi guys. Ben Robinson and I are going to be giving you guys freshwater / bass fishing reports a couple of times a fortnight. We will keep them short but full of detail. We hope you enjoy them. We spent 2 hours fishing for bass this morning. Arrived at bens at 5am and we promptly drove to our spot. Water levels were up due to rain and water a little dirty, but that didn't worry us. We had planned to start in our favorite area and work our way down. With the lure tray getting low, we had our last more reliable shallow divers. Worked a treat, I received a small head whack on retrieving. Ben a few Meters over picked up 2 small bass and a beauty measuring 23cm - all in the space of 30 minutes! You ripper! A slow retrieve over a submerged log and BOOM I was on. Adjusted my drag and worked my reel... Lost him. Unhooked. Worked our down the banks and I lost another after hooking up to a small bass in a deep hole and lost 3 lures in 10 minutes before a hook up on a beautiful rapala trout lure. Lost again! bugger! Ben saw the fattest biggest bass he's ever seen sitting on surface watching his lure, 45cm plus - very exciting times. In summary, we lost 4 lures, lost 2 bass and landed 3. Biggest 23cm. Beautiful morning even if I did take a fall down the banks and had to be pulled up to avoid the water. Cheers guys, tight lines. Will keep all reports in this running thread if that's ok with admin? Picture attached guys
  7. Hey guys. In the bream world 40cm is considered a brilliant catch and 50cm+ is one in a lifetime. In the bass world, whats the comparison? 0-20 cm = small 20 - 30 cm = fair 30 - 44cm = good 44cm + = great 60cm + = one in liftime ?
  8. I'm already addicted. Unfortunately, I only really get once a week (sometimes two) on sat or sunday mornings. I have a heap of new spots to try but too worried to because travel time = precious casting time!
  9. Well, got my first BASS last sunday morning. Very happy. 3rd cast, shallow diver. she went 31cm. then another small bass 45 minutes later. Only fished 1.5 hours all up. Lost 2 lures.
  10. Thanks guys, some good insights and opinions here. Just picked up two shallow divers (similar to jackal chubby or berkely fat dog) because the cicadas arent really singing out yet. I am fishing in the wollongong area. Going to snowys this weekend so no bass fishing but will resume next week!
  11. Thanks guys. I'm not striking at all. I believe its a closed mouth/ body bash. I always leave it for another 10 seconds and then a little twitch. Then another little twitch, then slow wind. Will then try that spot again obviously some times. I'm so close I'm excited but also so close i'm annoyed. HA
  12. Hi Guys. Might use this as a running update. I have been on 4 x 2-3 hour early morning sessions and 1 x 3 hour late evening session without a bass to date BUT I am getting hits on the lure almost each time in the first 30 minutes and then nothing. I think I could be spooking them and instead of hitting the same area each time I may try and walk up and down the banks and cast 20 times to each corner, drop off, snag, etc and just keep working the banks. Hope that brings me my first bass. Have been using almost always surface walkers/cicada imitators and will also get some berkely fat dog shallow divers too soon. Thanks and tight lines
  13. Hi Guys. Thanks for your help. Have been using surface lures leading up to summer (cicada season) and have come very close to catching my first bass. Multiple hits on my lure. Well get there by XMAS I hope!
  14. Thans guys. I am fishing a small creek with plenty of deep holes and plenty of snags. Thanks for the advice and the heads up. I too, think play percentages and keep it simple. I'm getting a new graphite rod with braid this week which will assist with casting with accuracy. I have a river2sea buggipopp 35mm surface lure (imitates cicadas) and arbogast jitterbug (surface) I will use over the weekend. When they re stock KOKODA bat (cicada surface walker) I will get some too.
  15. Hello Everyone. I have been fishing for years both fresh water and salt water. I feel it's time to seek out some help or even just a summary on lure selection (not the brand, the type, surface, shallow diver, deep diving, popper) and technique/speed for lure fishing specifically for bass. I understand the ins and out regarding their characteristics, where they hide, which types of day is best to fish, common casting targets etc. I have plenty of bass spots locally where I am its more about confidence in selection for me. Would someone be kind enough to provide me with a summary/their experiences in this area, specifically; their experience with surface vs shallow diving vs deep diving vs poppers for bass? If you are using a regular Joe Bloggs rod or a graphite (more whippy) rod and mono/braid? if you retrievals for bass are more or less slow to medium slow - as I understand you don't need to go very fast for them. Again, not after anyone's secrets or strategies just need a little summary for my selections going forward. Much appreciated. PS- I am on a budget of some sort, so I cant purchase the top lures all the time ($6.50 kokodas up to the $15 lures per lure is where I'm sitting).
