  1. Hi raiders, I had an issue with my Garmin dv70 echo maps so garmin ended up replacing it with an garmin mapgps 751xs ( which I think is an better unit) I'm looking at the garmin GavGCV 10 Scanning Sonar Module for side and down vu, it is approx around 800 bucks, is it worth it ? I generally only do inshore fishing with max depth of 25 m, only on a calm day head offshore. Thanks Tim
  2. Should I have a main 30 amp circut breaker before the fuse box ??
  3. Hi guys, I brought a Garmin dv70 at Christmas after a few uses I noticed 3 white lines appear on the top of the screen, I took it back to Bcf after waiting 1 month to repair the missing pixels they just replaced the unit, I went out a week later, fished all night and left the finder on, the next morning there was I white line in a similar place too last time. I took it direct to Garmin and the tech said it sounds like the wiring is fine he doesn't know why it deletes pixels, he then gave me a a new mapgps 751xs and said this should work, I haven't connected it yet as I don't want to ruin it, the wiring goes from battery to fuse box with an 15amp fuse in it then from fuse to fish finder which has a glass tube fuse connected to it, I haven't connect it to an auxiliary switch. Any ideas guys?? Thanks
  4. hi I have a Yamaha 4 stroke 60hp, I use a salt away when flushing my outboard and I very happy with results. they recommend run your outboard with flush muffs for 5 mins (this allows the thermostat to open) then run salt away for 30 secs and turn off engine, it leaves a film that keeps your outboard salt free.
  5. Hi guys, sorry for late reply, thanks for all your input I think I will put a deflector on as I am getting good readings, thanks for all your help tim
  6. Hi raiders, I just installed a Garmin echo map 70vd with down VU, I used it for the first time today and it worked well, it is a lot better then my old lowrance unit and was good value for money, but water splashes up when going over 10mph, when I go max speed for my quintrex which is 30mph the water streams over a 1.5m high, I tried lowering it and raising it as far as The screws let me when I installed it but same issue, did I install it too low or high ? I have have attached some pics, I would appreciate your feedback thanks
  7. Hi Guys, Cameras a good idea, and thanks for all your advice especially on the liquid electrical tape valk. Thanks
  8. Hi Raiders, Just a quick update last weekend. On Friday 6th Sept I put my boat in @ mooney mooney boat ramp, the carpark is still under construction. (there was only room for about 4-5 car and trailers in a temp spot), so I parked my trailer on the road next to the ramp (there was quite a few trailers already parked there), I was aware that it is a bit of a hot spot for thieves stealing trailers, so I locked the trailer and wheel.I spent 2 nights at bar point, it was crap fishing obviously but enjoyed the drinking. Sunday Morning came back to mooney mooney and noticed my trailer wires cut at the harness and then back both lights, I was pretty angry, I had to drive home to Penrith with people beeping telling lights are not working out the window getting the shits. I will never park my trailer over night at Mooney Mooney again. Also can anyone please tell me if I need to rewire the trailer or can you solder and heat shrink the joins together. Attached are pics Thanks

  12. Hi raiders, I just purchased a 24 kg overhead reel and 5"6 matching rod , I want to use the rod for deep sea fishing and trolling around heads I hear mono is better as it doesn't get tangled easy and also the knots are always tighter, is this true or is braided line better thanks for your replies
  13. Hi Raiders, I purchased a 2006 quintrex coast runner with a 60hp 4 stroke, I am very happy with the boat. The only downside is the paint is pitting around non standard items. I'm sure the screws are stainless steel that they used (the previous owner said he had a marine shop fit the products). I have attached some pics of the boat and affected areas, All the items that were fitted from quintrex are in perfect condition so I cant blame them lol. I would appreciate any advice on how to fix the issue, I understand that getting the paint from telwater is impossible. Do I need to apply a primer? Please help me !!!!!!!!!! Thanks
  14. Hi thanks for all your replays, I went fishing with a mate last week and caught a 40cm flat head at the canal near mooney mooney using soft plastics, also a good spot was at patonga, flicked a soft 3d prawn at the were the beach and rocks meet and got a big tailor, then we fished near the rocks at patonga, the bottom goes from 8m to 12m I used some tailor fillets as bait and we caught a massive bream, good to see the hawkesbury still have lots of fish, thanks for all your replies much appreciated
