  1. Experience is something you get two seconds after you need it. Dont run that light guage setup on 24kg. That hook set up looks fine for 10kg (or 15kg at a stretch). When running 24kg gear you need (and CAN) run heavier hooks that will set easily with 8kg of drag. The main reason you would run light guage hooks (like the Pakula one shown) is when running light line classes with low drag settings and you have the need to get hook penetration accordingly. Constantly re-rigging your favourite lures is a balancing act across what line classes you run over different seasons (tuna vs marlin) and wind-on vs none. Dont run a one-size-fits-all philosophy with lures and outfits. - Steve
  2. SGFC Geoff Woolley Memorial Winter Classic Tournament July 31st & August 1st 2010 Sydney Game Fishing Club are pleased to announce that sanctioned rules and entry form now available at http://www.sgfc.com.au/downloads.php Please note the significant change to the tournament format this year is that all boats can return directly to THEIR HOME PORT on the Sunday afternoon after stop fishing. Fish can be weighed on their home port's club scales. All results (capture and T&R) must be reported at close of fishing and forms emailed or faxed to the club by 3pm on Tuesday 3rd August. There will be a brief presentation on the evening of Tuesday 3rd August at SGFC (which is a usual monthly club meeting night). - Steve
  3. I can confirm 50kg+ fin caught on Makaira. 65.3kg on 24kg. 5nm's SE of Browns with a cube trail started 3nm's NE of Browns.
  4. Was that on Billfisher? Heard you guys on the radio while I was stuck inside doing boat jobs. Nice pics.
  5. We were fishing the Broken Bay comp. Saturday we found a pack of about 7 or stripes about 5 nm's north of bait station. We managed a double hook up, one line got run over by another fish on 15kg and busted off, pulled the hooks on the other. Sunday about 3 nm's west of bait station we scored a short bill and then a 110kg-ish stripe on a skip bait that we chased around on 10kg for two hours before losing at the boat. Good fishing, shit results....
  6. Had three up, tagged one in 65 fathoms off Manly yesterday, report and pics at http://forum.sgfc.com.au/index.php?topic=196.0
  7. Very little. A few boats ventured out on Saturday and I was out Monday for 0-0-0's.
  8. The satellite went offline for a few days, it affected all SST services - should be back now.
  9. SGFC will be waiving the joining fee for one night only - Friday 7th November when Peter Pakula will be presenting his latest lure developments. Obviously you must be there in person.
  10. Any results from Hot Currents tourney?
  11. A small (40kg) model was seen sun baking on Sunday afternoon by a Sydney boat a few miles north of Browns. Usually late November is when they start to show up in numbers....
  12. Errrr 25 knot SE, 3m on 3m very pleasant for the fish. See Sydney GFC report for the last time anyone could really get out the heads
  13. There are many different categories in a comp to target. As it was, several different categories were won by differing boats which is not always the case. Carnage had '3' sharks, two of them (Blue) on 6kg & one (Mako) on 15kg for three different anglers. Black Pete's fish were great fish and they would have taken out capture if they were both captured on 37kg (one was on 60kg line class). Any one fishing capture knows roughly how the points systems works - heavy line class is penalised as the fish weight is divided by line class (as well as factoring for various sharks vs tuna vs Marlin). Black Pete didn't take out champion angler either for the same reasons above - but could have if both were caught by the same angler on 37kg - before the recent changes to NSW fishing rules that only allows one of each species of marlin per angler per day, captured. They obviously won heaviest marlin, which is probably exactly what they were targeting. So not quite as simple as it may appear....
