  1. Rigga, You can get the locations from the fisheries website. Though I think here at fishraider we have them up somewhere.
  2. Hi Prawn Star. You'll have to add the HT to your list of PB's. Nice one
  3. Hi Guys, After all that rain a "fish kill" is very probable. It can be a naturally occurring event, and does not need to have any human influence to occur. But chemicals used on the land like pesticides, herbicides and high nitrate based fertilisers take all the oxygen out of the water, and are definitely man made problems It seems more likely than a trawler's by catch, as they are all estuary species, and there are not much of that in the Sydney harbours these days (to my knowledge). Having said that, we all see reports of commercial guys dragging a fly screen through the water all over the world. It can be a wonder that anything survives those unsavoury types in our waters.
  4. Cheers for that Tom. i appreciate you going to the effort. i'll give em a buzz and ask the lads what they think. Sounds pretty good to me.
  5. Hi Everybody, A couple of work mates and I are staying an extra day in darwin next weekend, in order to get a line wet. I am keen for some sportfishing action with an arm workout (GT's, Spaniards, Wahoo etc) I am under the impression that any of the close to Darwin barra spots are heavily fished, and have heard bad reports. If any one has some good suggestions I would love to hear them ASAP. Thanks guys, Archie.
  6. I took a french mate of mine out and his brother earlier in summer. He caught a nice blue groper, very big, and decided to keep as the older frenchman is a chef, and had heard good things. I am not sure how they cooked it, but said it was very fatty. (coming from a french chef, that is a laugh) any suggestions on cooking styles? The other funny thing, well i think it was funny..... When i dropped them off at Watsons bay wharf, there were about 300 people lined up for the ferry, and they are carrying this huge groper, so as i drive off i yelled out that i would drop their spear guns over later on. i kept a straight face and drove off. Now i can assure everyone we caught this one, with bait on a TLD. but the crowd gave the boys a few dirty looks at first, until junior french advised i was an idiot and pointed at me laughing in the distance. He's French, and I have Red hair. What could i do?
  7. Mate, for my 2 bobs worth.... Orange is a good colour (but my brother has been nailing a heap on the naturals) Egimax is a good addition to spay a little on your jig. 2g up to 3.5 depending on the depth. heavier the deeper. My girlfriend is the squid master. she does not know anything about fishing, and screams when one comes near the boat. But i always get her to fish for squid, because when i tell her to retrieve very slowly, she does exactly that, and brains them all the time. (typical) there are some good posts on hear for catching squid, but they can be frustrating, and the best fisherman around sydney harbour, are quite often the best squid fisho's.
  8. Lads, Sorry to push the point. But worth commenting. Great report! Good to see two mates doing what they obviously love. Well done. Arch
  9. I have experienced these incidents. i have helped the fisheries out, accidentally tipping their catch back in the water. When they yelled, I said "I didn't understand"!! It would be good to see the fisheries more visible around the harbour foreshore in my opinion
  10. My brother and I sometimes drift back in through the heads with our left over livies. Just drag them along the bottom. Time for a beer, and a look at the scenery. until you hook up on a hammer head or big flatty. Then the noise from the screaming reel takes all the tranquility away. Enjoy.
  11. mate, That line of the FDS is gold. Although If i tried it and failed, it would double the insult of not getting any kings. And it would be bound to happen with me. Nice work on the mako, although they don't jump as high as the sea gulls or mutton birds if you hook them up.... nice post mate. well done.
  12. Hi guys, A mate of mine showed me a few pics of kings he got busted off by (they were swimming on the surface) on Thursday. I wont post the pics as it shows the location clearly in the main harbour. He got smoked!!! And I will describe the size, as being MASSIVE. Biggest kings I have ever seen, some up to 20kg. Way over a Metre. There are definitely Kings around. Arch
  13. Thanks Guys, That was exactly what i was looking for. I appreciate the great work those guys do, and did not want to waste their time, by being a complete novice on the Radio. Over, and Out!
  14. Hi Guys, I have started heading offshore a bit more lately. I usually hug the coast if I go outside. I know that the Coast Guard run courses on radio procedure, and I am willing to go and sit in on one. However, I want to head out a few times in the next few weeks, and will not have time. Does anyone have any info on how to check in with the coast guard. Channels, radio language, and the information they will need. I tried to find info on line, and did not come up with much. Any assistance will be greatly apprteciated. Regards, Arch
  15. Hi guys, i have fished a lot there as well, and from the stones. My mates dad (who seems to live underwater) spears along the cliffs, and gets some big kings. He will jump straight into my burley trail, without a thought. I asked him if he is scared of sharks, and reckons he has never seen one. Now I am sure they are there, but not that many. However I reckon the salmon bring the bull sharks on. maco's tend to be around the faster fish like salmon. Just an amateur observation, but some veterans may have an opinion on this.
