  1. Thanks for replies guys, looks like good tips, i'll try it out. I gave the SPs a try today, waded out into the water on the caravan park side, but no luck yet. Will keep trying tho!
  2. Hey all, Just wondering if anyone can offer me some help on how to catch flatties at narra lakes. I am land based and usually fish off the caravan park side, but I usually catch bream with prawns and squid, though many are undersized which I throw back. Is there any specific technique I should use to attract flatties, or any specific areas where they congregate? And is it better to go low tide or high tide, and dusk or dawn? Also, what other species are usually caught there? Thanks, DL

    Rock Fishing

Hey guys, Im thinking of doing some rock fishing at North Curl Curl rocks near the pool. Ive been there a few times, but have not had much luck and always get snagged, even with floaters. Basically, I am not very good at fishing haha. I have a 3.3 meter telescopic rod. It says 3.3m/7 Ssec and Action: B-30/40 - (not sure what this means, can anyone tell me?) My reel is a Abu Garcia spinning reel with 12lb mono line. Can somebody give me some tips as to improve my chances of landing a fish - such as what rigs to use, and what fish to target and what bait to use? Should I be casting far out? or just throw it close to the rocks, this seems to always result in snags. At the moment Ive got a 8lb trace on a float with ganged hooks for pilchards. However I dont know if my line will be strong enough to hold something that will take a whole pilchard. Any advice would be great Thanks!
  4. Thanks...so we were usin wrong bait
  5. Hey raiders, Went for late night fishing at Narra Lakes near the bridge, and we saw a very big school of fish that kept circling around the bridge, I was told they were mullet. We were using prawns as bait, but they did not take it at all, the entire school just circled around my line without even tryin my bait! Does anyone know how to catch them?
  6. Hi guys, I was just wondering why is the blackfish float is the way it is? Why do we not use bobby corks or other types of floats? Cheers, Dlai
  7. Cool, thanks guys. I also tried using limpets the other day, got some bites, but didn't hoook any. Has anyone had any sucess with them?
  8. Thanks dreaflyn, the cunje info helps a lot. But, i was refering to those small crabs, that you can use for bait. I think they are little blue swimmers?
  9. Hey raiders, I was gathering my own bait for fishing off the rocks, and tried some cunje, except I dont know if I am using the correct part. I used the redish meat that is attached onto the innerwalls of the cunje.. if that makes sense. That part seemed to be tougher and would stay on the hook longer. Is this the right part to use? Also, some other questions: How much should I use, is there a legal limit to how many I can take? How should it be presented? What type of fish does cunje attract? And unrelated to cunje..how do you catch those bait crabs! As soon as I go near, they go into their little cracks where they cant be touched! Thanks
  10. Yep I know that Just wondering if fish are more active in the morning because they are more hungry?
  11. Hey guys, I used to go fishing at night usually, around Narrabeen Lakes and other shore areas, but usually theres not many good fish. So I tried fishing during the monring few days back, off the rocks, and seems to be much more active, a lot of bites, and some decent size fish. Does anyone else find mornings to be better than nights? If so, why is it? thanks
  12. Thx guys! I'll give it a try then.
  13. Hey guys, Just wondering if anyone has tried fishing at Manly Dam? I went last week, but when I got there, I was told by people there that theres nothing to catch, except maybe carp, because theres no inflow so we just left. Is that true? Because on the Manly Dam council website it says it is regularly stocked with Australian Bass, and other species like silver perch and Redfin. So has anyone tried, with any results? Thx
  14. Hey, Thanks for the advices guys. Gary, thanks for the map, but is that map of Dee Why headlands? Is there a particular street I could enter from? Hey Matt, just tried Narrabeen lake today, used a light line, light lead and light bait as Gary said. I went along the Woolies side, around 2 hours before and after high tide, and used squid as bait. It is servo bait, I guess it'll have to do untill I get a yabbie and air pump. Caught a small snapper, let it go, then caught the same one again! lol. But that was it, we saw fish jumping out of the water a few times but we didn't catch anythin else besides the snapper, but I will keep tryin For the yabbie and air pump, where abouts would I get the yabbies and worms from? My freind has a yabbie pump, but we dont know where to get yabbies from northern beaches. thanks alot.
