  1. Hi all I'm tempted to buy a 2nd hand beach rod a Penn prevail however all the penns I've seen have printed writing in a professional type font. This one appears printed but in a more hand writing font, anyone have a Penn prevail 12-20kg able to take a look or post a photo and confirm the text looksike this? http://imgur.com/ZOqr1Sq Cheers
  2. Should be decent, Personally im prob going to hit Stanwell Park
  3. Any ideas on the best place to buy this? I had some crap Kato and it just snaps
  4. Is this the daiwa multi colour? Been trying to find some but can't
  5. Headed down the few beaches around Sussex Inlet over the weekend with 2 mates who had fished before but not really every caught much, Fished Saturday Morning and Night. Saturday morning made it just for high tide ended with 1 Salmon 58cm and 1 Whiting 44cm and then it went dead, Moved to Saturday night we started just before high tide, then tide came and started to go. 9pm hit and had me worried, not even a bite, then it went absolutely nuts.. Every cast was a hit We bagged out on Salmon and Tailor, and picked up some whiting, bream and a decent octopus, At 1 stage we had something on 1 of the rods that felt 4 - 5 times the size of the previous fish but it broke the line with around 20metres left :/ 50lb braid. That was frustrating as usual.
  6. Anyway back from the weekend away, ended up a great trip, 3 of us fished the beach. Bagged out on Salmon, Tailor and also a few bream and whiting that we cooked down there
  7. On your 4000 what line do you use?
  8. Would this work any good? I would mainly be using it off the beach, but maybe some rocks, Ive already got 2 12 foot rods/reels Thanks for the advice http://www.bcf.com.au/online-store/products/Daiwa-Aird-Spin-Reel-4000H.aspx?pid=321019#Recommendations http://www.bcf.com.au/online-store/products/Starlo-ClassiX-Spin-9-5-10KG-2pc.aspx?pid=287076&menuFrom=30101#Recommendations Also if I get that Daiwa reel, what line should I put on it for 40gm lures?
  9. Hi all, Ive got 2 beach rods I use for bait however I think they are to big/heavy for lures, I want to try out some spanyid raiders and I guess some others but after some advice on a decent rod/reel that won't break the budget but can handle some decent fish and cast out a fair distance. Anyone have a setup purely for beach lures or recommend anything?
  10. Yeah always seems to be the same results down there, hoping for the one day where to nice big Jewie comes along or even a somewhat bigger shark would make me happy. I usually fish Berrara which is not the same as Sussex, nice little hidden gem, so will see what it produces
  11. Hi All, After some advice, hit up Bundeena last weekend with no luck and lots of weed, so decided to head down to Sussex this weekend with some mates and hire a cabin, but after some advice if anyone has fished it lately? Sussex, Berrara or even the few beaches this side of it? Tides seem ok at 1.5m in the morning and 1.2 in the afternoon so we are only staying the Sat night so will get 3 high tides to fish, ive pretty much only used Pillies and surf poppers but tempted to try some Bonito as well. My first trip went well - http://www.fishraider.com.au/Invision/index.php?showtopic=77878and 2nd trip had good results we came home with whiting, flathead, salmon and released Trevalli, Shark and Stingray. Im hoping to get there for Sat morning high tide, then come home after Sun morning high tide, so after advice from anyone who has fished it the past few weeks? Thanks
  12. Ouch not good, did you fish sussex, swan lake or berrara?
  13. I didnt no, However it appeared as if the heads had been opened at swan lake as the water was right to the road near the bridge, and even berrara inlet was wider than id seen in probably 10years. Add that to the fact this week/end as a 1.9 metre tide and full moon, compared to my tide of 1.4metres I had it should fish ok.
  14. Nps, yeah it is very close Each high tide we fished produced results, and you can park in the cul de sac down near the beach, and its literally a 2 min walk to the fishing spot, inlet was ankle deep at low, and just over knee at high, so nothing major. I would have kept fishing, but on the start of the run on the last night my reel broke in for repairs atm. (still managed to cut the line and get the fish by hand lol)
  15. Hi All, First post so bear with me, Wife and I went down to Sussex Inlet this weekend past in a nice cabin right on the ocean (not cheap, but they do have caravans) - We stayed at berrara beach which is a very quiet little place, We were there for 4 nights and no one fished the beach, and only saw 1 person rock fishing. As a kid I fished the river at Berrara but never the beach, and only just started beach fishing a little while back, and this was my first real catch and quite happy with these Aus Salmon. Was using a Paternoster rig with gang hooks and a popper (popper was popular with the fish) Anyway fished from about an hour before high tide for about 3 or 4 hours, once dark down here, you cannot see 1 thing its that dark. Taking advice from here, I found a nice gutter during the day and thats where we fished. You will see in the photos how damn happy I was! and my ugly mug of course, Ive only ever fished as a kid an only small little fish from the shore. So this was a change for me. Anyway, not wanting to give to much away, but if you head down that way, Give Berrara Beach a try, we are taking the kids back in September so will have another go then but will be taking some bigger hooks and bigger poppers as I had so many bent hooks and lost fish that I wished made it all the way in. As you can see in the photos, Im very happy, anyway worth a shot as it seemed almost every cast was getting a fish, I was using Pilchards and the average catch size was 56-58cms, Wife also managed to get some nice Bream on a smaller setup. Also added a map from where we fished, well worth a shot if anyone is down that way, there is also a good little spot to park if you don't have accommodation down there.
