Thanks for your input mate. I had read that the chirp transducers can leave a bit to be desired in deeper water, so may be worth just sticking with the standard HD-ID transducer at first and spending that money on the map upgrades?

Hi guys. looking to upgrade my current (and outdated) Northstar sounder and old hummingbird mono gps/plotter with a single, larger screen unit. I was originally looking at the elite 7, but after having a look and a bit of a play with it feel that the screen is a bit too small to run split screen for plotting and sounding at the same time. i was thinking about the elite 9 to remedy this, but while I was having a bit of a look around came across the Garmin unit which is currently heavily discounted and comes in almost $500 cheaper than the Lowrance unit. I was just wondering if anyone had any experience or advice with regards to the units? Thanks in advance!

hi guys, first post here. I'm located at Gosford and here is my girl. Custom built by Pro Ali here on the coast. approx 6.5m, Volvo-Penta 4.3 v6. this winter she's getting a partial re-wire to get rid of the dodgy patches that have been done over the years, some new electronics and a new windscreen. if you see me out feel free to say hi!
