  1. Thank you very much for that offer squidboy but it was actually my am/fm antenna that they took. I have my old 27mhz that I replaced with a vhf and it is the same base type so I might try that and see if it picks up. It is just handy to have the radio as I normally fish at night and I relax with a couple of rods out the back and the music playing softly in the background.
  2. Thought I would get out for a couple of hours this morning, the wind was calm at 6:00am when I got up but by 9:30am it was getting a bit uncomfortable so I decided to pack it in. Get back to Swallow Rock boat ramp at about 10:00 and pull the boat up on the sand, there were a couple boats on the pontoon and about 3 other boats on the sand as well. Went and got my truck and pulled the boat out and drove home.Get home and wash the boat and start to pack everything away. That's when I notice there is something different. One of my antennas is missing. When I pulled up at the ramp the boat was unattended for no longer than three minutes and all the boats that were next to me on the sand were pushed out into the water with motors going ready to go out. What really annoys me is that all the boats that were there were expensive boats, I am talking nothing under about $25,000, and some scum bag that has a boat worth that much money can't afford a $50 antenna so they help themselves to mine. Whoever it was, I hope you had a very merry Xmas and I am sure you are going to have a very happy new year now that you can listen to your radio. So a warning to every one, if you are on your own and have to leave the boat to get your car, do a quick check that everything is there before you pull your boat out, while the other boats are still there.
  3. Decided at the last minute to go out and spend a few relaxing hours on the water last night. Got to the boat ramp at about 6:45pm and still had to queue up to get the boat in the water. Had a drift in the river and caught a little reddie that went straight back in. Changed drifts and got closer to the sand bar - about 10 meters away, and I see a boat heading up the channel in my direction. Here I am 10m from the sand and about 50 meters from the other shoreline. There is only one place that boat can go right?, where else but in between me and the sandbar. OK so we have to allow for one weekend warrior. Think again. In the next 20 minutes, doing the same drift, I had 3 more fools go on the outside of me, remember 50 odd meters to navigate, and the last one was no more than 3 rod lengths away from me when he passed me. And then I remembered why I haven't fished on the river on weekends for the last 15 or so years. I hope that all the raider members here show a bit more courtesy to their fellow fishos and if you are one of the "pass as close to the boat" brigade, next time you go out think how you would feel about someone passing 3 meters beside you, or worse, behind you when you have your lines out. After that I changed spots in to a bigger bay and relaxed for another 4 hours without a bite, but much calmer.
  4. that would be great mrsswordfisherman, let me know when they are available.
  5. Yes tef1on, just like that. I have never seen one on any boats. Can anybody get one and where do you get them from.
  6. Thanx for that guys. One thing I have been wanting to ask and I forgot to ask in the post, I notice that there are a lot of fishos in port hacking, has any one ever thought of having stickers made up to stick on our boats so when we are on the water we can identify and introduce ourselves to fellow members
  7. Hi everyone, my first post here but have been checking the site every couple days to see what's happening on the fishing front. I have been fishing Port Hacking river for the past 45 odd years and used to go outside a lot with my father when he had a large boat when I was younger. I recently aquired a Quintrex 475 Bayhunter Caprice which I have finally purchased all the safety gear for so that I could go outside the heads and not have to look over my shoulder to see if I was going to be checked by the authorities. I have been outside a couple of times, but have picked my days and conditions, to see how she handles. So far I have been really happy with it. I have so far gone out about 5 km and down as far as Garie in good weather and will slowly go out in slightly worse conditions until I find the limit of what both the boat and myself can handle. Back to the point of this topic. Seeing that the weather had a nice day planned for me yesterday, I thought I would take the opportunity to wet a line, so after getting to sleep at about 1:30am on Tuesday night I got up at 6:00am to get the boat ready. Headed down south along the coast with a couple of lures out the back without a hit. Decided to stop at a spot a few kms down, in close to the rocks, where I had success with giant squid a few years ago when a mate took me out in his boat and caught three nice specimans. I caught the three within 10 minutes and then they just stopped, must have been all the black ink in the water that put them off. So I headed up to a couple of flathead grounds off Cronulla with some nice fresh squid wings for bait and as soon as the bait hit the bottom I was on. Caught a heap of flathead but they were all about 25cm long so I but them back and told them I will be back when they are a bit bigger. All in all it was a perfect day to be out there, even if it was a bit nippy in the morning and if it wasn't for the fact I had to go to work late that afternoon I would have stayed out till dark. The width of the tub they are laying in measures 400mm.
