  1. I had an electric winch for a few years and it worked well, the only problem was I was using crocodile clips on the car battery. This meant I had to have the bonnet up and cable lying on the ramp. It was a messy solution so if you go electric work out your power supply first. This might entail having to run some power cable to a socket at the back of your car. Today I put the trailer in deeper and drive the boat onto the traile and one or two winds completes the process.
  2. As someone as already said, it is most probably your thermostat. I have the same on my Evinrude
  3. I have a 175 Etec which has done over 100 hours. I was told it can run 300 hours in salt or fresh before a service . Even so one should lift the lid occasionally and have a look and spray the engine with lanolin. In regard to oil usage if the engine is over oiling as mine is at times you will see carbon soot around the exhaust area. I have been told the amount of oil can be adjusted but cannot find anyone to do it. Anyone I would trust that is. I only useXD100 and can have standard sized tank. I only top up every five or six trips, I burn about 50ltrs per trip. I carry spare oil and a wide mouthed funnel so I can top the tank upon rough weather. You do have some extra time after receiving your low oil warning but I would fill upas soon as possible. The cheapest way of looking after any engine is to use top quality oil and 95 octane petrol.
  4. I have a 6m ally boat and drive it up on the trailer. The trailer is well in the water with the back rollers underwater. I bring the boat in slowly with the motor clear of the ramp. I then nudge it into the first set of rollers. My crew then attaches the winch strap and starts to pull it up, once the boat is set in position I slowly drive it up the trailer until it is secured. Very fast and very safe for the boat.
  5. Why the borax, what does it do. Does it affect the bait
  6. ZMK 1962 I sent you an SMS with full contact details. Did you get it ?.
  7. I am thinking about buying an electric fishing reel but am not too sure what to look for, does anyone have any ideas or tips, that would be useful to me in making a buying decision ?.
  8. Join a fishing club where you may get offers of permanent crew, especially if you can fish mid week. Just google fishing clubs Sydney.
  9. I use the BOM report which is quite good but sometimes do not get the weather changes right, especially the wind speed. I also use windguru which is O/K as a cross check. The main thing is to prepare for anything and use the BOM only as a guide . Tide4fishing - Sydney is a good site for general fishing/weather information.
  10. I just bought a cool box. You can get various sizes from Bunnings or BCF. It was easy to plumb and I used a bilge pump fitted to a platform attached to the transom underwater and also scoop. Going along I use a scoop to inject fresh water and at rest I use the bilge pump. I have also installed an aerator it will keep 20 livies alive for well over a few hours. It was quite inexpensive no more than $250 all up. And quick to install. Most cool boxes also have a drain plug.
  11. Yes, I have just had a full windscreen hardtop fitted to my 6m 1983 Yellowfin. It is a great improvement with lots of improved vision and far more comfortable. The price was very reasonable too. He has also put a full glassed cockpit with hard roof on a Bar Crusher. PM me if you want details
  12. Dave mm is on the spot. Start your troubleshooting by dealing with the simple and then move onto the more complex. Works more often than not.
  13. I have then fitted on my boat, they are lit up red in the off position. You can buy whole range of them from marine use at Whitworths marine supplies. They are waterproof. When installed do not forget to spray lanolin on the back of the switched to stop corrosion.
  14. I had the same challenge. I put a cable shield over it and filled it with a standard epoxy filler. no problem. Just make sure the cable is secured to the transom before it enters the hole to prevent any cable movement. All the other solutions seem quite feasible it is just a matter of how much time you want to spend on it.
