  1. Thanks Brian that's good feedback Just talking with a local boat shop where I'm buying my new boat and I was looking at buying the HB 898c hd si and he told me there is a complete update of the HB ranges and told me to hold off Apparently the 600 series is available now and the 800, 900 and 1100 series are due in march he reckons the RRP has come down on these newer units Thanks again Brian Will
  2. Hi raiders Has anyone purchased the new humminbird 698ci hd si I'm thinking of getting a new sounder and still tossing up between 600 or 800 in the humminbird range Has anyone got any feed back on the units performance? Hows the picture quality on the smaller screen? Look forward to your feedback Will
  3. Hi Andrew If you a hiring a boat they don't move to quick so my suggestion would be to stick to the area from the flats just behind the ferry ( heading to the direction of crosslands if you know the area) and try for some fatties around the drop offs or you can head in the other direction and anchor on the point where red marker is positioned on the opposite side of the houses, I find if you tuck into the corner of this point and anchor a couple of boat lengths out from sure inbetween the point and the old stone ruin stacked on the shore line you are a chance for bream, flathead and smaller Jew. Remember to burley up with some crush pilchards to start and then as you begin to fish start a light stream of small pieces of chopped Pilly, make sure that it is defrosted so it sinks naturally and then just feed your unweighted or lightly weighted bait behind your already sinking burley this should get you some bream if there around Mate this is a technique that works for me on most occassions but others may have some better advice I hope this helps anyway Tight lines and good luck Wilbaforce

  6. Hi all I'm was hoping for some advice on installing a sounder to a minn kota trolling motor Has anyone done this and do they have any photos of how they have done it I need to understand the wire placement down the trolling motor to the transducer, how do you keep the wiring tidy when the motor is not in use, do you have to keep the excess wire curled up on the deck? how much needs to be cable tied to the shaft itself and where do you cable tie so the motor can still freely go up and down and also allow correct operation and motor rotation when in use The sounder screen will be positioned on the front deck of my boat so it will be quite close to the minn kota motor itself. The sounder being installed is a lowrance elite 5x DSI Any help would be appreciated Will
  7. Ha ha Rich The kayak is certainly a great way to enjoy the creek especially mid week when its really quite
  8. Thanks Mark I will give this technique ago next time I'm out on the water Please let us know how you go today very interested to see your report on the creek Regards Wilbaforce
  9. If you want to target trevelly from a boat in the estuary what area should you look for (depth, tide faze, time of day, structure etc)?? Do you guys look for any action on the sounder when you first pull up or do you just start burleying and wait and see??
  10. Hey raiders Have been out twice in the last fortnight around mid arvo fished both sides of the tide change throwing around some slow worked plastics and vibes and have come home with a big fat zero. Tried deep and shallow water, points, drop offs and deep rock walls with not a touch. The water appears very clear, a little to clear I think with the current results I've experienced Not seeing the usual small bait cruising the edges near the surface either Has any one taken any good catches from this area recently other then Hairtail, really would like to know about bream,Jew, flathead etc If anyone out there has some advice on the area that would be good? Should I be switching to bait in winter or fishing the low light periods as the water is so clear??? These fish less outings are driving me crazy Wilbaforce
  11. Hi all I am looking to purchase a 30 or 40 hp Etec for my 4.29 stacer nomad elite. The boat currently has a 30 cv mercury 07 model on it and I want to up date to a cleaner and a more reliable model. Any advise on whether the 30 Etec will be enough power for my size boat as I am also trying to keep the cost down and the 40 is quite a jump in price. I also want to trade the 30 merc in as well , can anyone tell me the best place to go where I can get a good price and a fair trade in price for my merc??? If anyone has just bought any one of these motors what should I expect to pay for it ?? Will

  13. Hi all I am planning a trip to Callala bay down the south coast for the first time with the family and would really love some tips with fishing the area. I plan on taking the kayak but will also like some land base options as i will be taking my wife, sister and my 8 year old nephew for a few hours fishing a day. For the nephew anywhere you can let me know of that will get him onto a few fish to keep him interested would be great. if anyone can tell me if Callala bay is suited to paddling around on the kayak to chase a few flatty and whiting also would be a great help just read an article on a large mystry fish kill in the area where thousands of fish were killed and washed up on the shore, does anyone know if mystry was resovled and if the fish are safe to eat in the bay any help would be greatly appreciated regards Will
  14. Hey locodave This spot has come up on a few of the raiders past post but is also shown on a well known fishing DVD which hosted by a well known fisho who has fly fishing charters in the harbour The spot is somewhere in Berowra it appears to be in the main flow but can't quite pick it but the mark used to find it is a large coral tree in the yard of a house that lines the water front, its great for picking up Jew flatty and bream according to the DVD If you come across this in your travels let me know, I usually fish from the kayak and can't explore all that far It may even be as far up as bar point if you can get your hands on the DVD you may be able to pick straight away
  15. Fished the flats behind the ferry this morning for a few small flatty and under size tailor All caught on pumpkin seed colour gulps. Very active morning but nothing of size.. Headed home when I couldn't stand being wet any longer, best hot shower i have ever had I have still had no luck locating the spot coral tree in Berowra waters yet so if there Is anyone out there that can help me with it's where abouts it would be a very happy man as I would love to give it a crack on my next outing
