  1. Forgot to mention the ludicrousness of the sign advising you not to eat fish from the river. Far more dangerous to eat fish you have cleaned on that table yet they don't sign that.
  2. 1) The asian guy has been swimming there for years. He follows the mangrove line down towards silverwater bridge and the ferry skippers I know, keep a keen eye for him especially the winter darks. We used to see him at 6am. Can"t believe a bull shark hasn't got him. 2) The table is filthy. I tried addressing the issue with council several years ago but found it's a bit of a demarcation dispute between Ryde and Parra....typical public service mentality. so gave up. We take our own large cleaning boards down there. 3)Twice in the last 4 weeks some wanker has undone the ubolt we use to secure the trailer hitch and then the hitch. Check your trailer every time you retrieve, All 3 of us checked it the last time before we left home; just to be sure we hadn't stuffed up.
  3. Had the same problem last place I lived at. I agree high lift jack welded to trailer. Put it in a position where you can still attach jockey wheel when that is needed ie you can lift jack up to draw bat height without interfering with removable jockey wheel
  4. What about the social distancing you see on the news with a copper up at drivers window of a car for either breath testing/drug swabbing or checking compliance with corona distancing. You see it on the roads everyday as well. I suppose they have super human immunity. First in line at a set of traffic lights the other day, then as per usual had a motorbike rider (queue jumper) sneaks up next to my front right hand driver wheel to be first off the mark. Being a tradie grabbed my stanley tape off the seat set it to 1.5 and tapped him on the shoulder and requested he move forward to the social safe distancing requirements. Funny to watch from his response from first surprise/ then aggro/ then compliance posture. Wasn't a bike copper so no super human powers exemption. Flu season next so really be afraid, Corona's just a little brother in this country. https://www.abs.gov.au/ausstats/abs@.nsf/0/47E19CA15036B04BCA2577570014668B?Opendocument
  5. Hey Scratchie great advice but to make this relevant so no one breaks the law,, have you found the definition of local? Is it your nearest boat ramp, foreshore or wharf ?
  6. I use a guy/company that were site sponsors prior to Deckee taking ownership of the forum. Message me for recommendation
  7. try parramatta the home of the eels
  8. Hey JohnD have you tried the fin nors?
  9. I've seen them do this in the shallows up against a bank on the Lachlan river below Wyangala. There was a school of several hundred fish, The water was flowing at the time and no algae blooms so plenty of oxygen. Also saw them in the pond at Rosehill races doing the same. It appeared to me it was to do with spawning. Gulping the oxygen is similar to some people recovering with a cigarette afterwards.
  10. If Waverly did they would have to make it compulsory for all patrons to Bondi Beach to wear them, after all the show claims 1200 rescues per year on that 1 beach. Wonder what the statistics are for all their beach goer rescues in that shire compared to rock fishos rescues. Let' s start a campaign compulsory lifejackets for all beach swimmers!!! But buy shares in lifejacket producers first
  11. Sensational strike rate. Rain finally has stirred them Tried the 1m tidal difference tide a few weeks ago with a high for only 4 crabs from 12 traps. Worst result for years. Thanks for the heads up.
  12. Like to see them do a historic re-creation of Bondi rescue set in the 70's with the wind blowing from the north east. Reedy to Hoppo " There's a bloke at backpackers that's taken a big one and is going under" 'What a rogue wave"! No a choker from the outlet. Your turn to clear his airways....god luck. What fond memories ......but definitely not a tourist icon back then. Golden rule back then was to stay clear of Bondi in NE's and Manly in Se's. Fished bluefish quite often but never took fish home. Biggest stands of cabbage weed i've ever seen, hence the giant blackies and drummer. but mainly went there for the big trevs, 6lb leader, floating prawns and good timing on the wash was needed to bag them.
  13. You use a burley trail with a drift rather than anchor in 30m? I would have thought this would disperse the fish over a wider area rather than congregate?
  14. Have seen them before in the area. They particularly like ambushing in the shallow flats next to the wharf rd boat ramp. Some go inside the flats and drive the fish to the narrow throat on the main river that drops off into the deeper water, or vice versa. Presume its the poddy mullet sunning themselves in the shallow flats water that they chase.
  15. For a statistic to be listed as a shark attack there has to be a witness that actually sees the shark and the attack. If your swimming at a beach hear a loud splash, turn around and notice that the person 10 meteres away from you has disappeared, this is listed as drowning(accidental drowning 1920 people is it?). Most of the guys i know that are long term comp spearos so competent in the water and around sea life ,won't go to certain spots any more due to increased numbers and aggression of great whites . This wasn't the case 20 years ago.
  16. Hey Basil. What bait were you successful with? We were there as well and didn't go good till 11am when we went away from the main group of boats. The crew then used that mornings caught slimies rather than the thawed ones and that worked. Not sure whether bait or change of location was the key.
  17. Probably the red spot. Been catching them a lot lately and on last trip out just after dawn a trawler dropped his bycatch and there were thousands of them blanketing inside nth head. Seagulls had a field day so must be plagues of them at the moment.
  18. yep wcurrall is right. I have caught them a few times out there but knew them as armourheads. Found that name when searching for them originally and was the name the russkies called them that and an important commercial catch for them. True name is the boarfish
  19. What time were you on your mark for the dollies both days?
  20. Yeah the rockfishing blitz is annoying. How come according to the Bondi Rescue show, they claim they save at least 10 people a day from drowning (ie 3650 per year) yet not significantly statistical enough to force all beach goers to wear lifejackets? Just a thought
  21. What about with a blind fold on as well? "Arrrrr you are not ready to you take the pebble from my hand"
