  1. Disgusting stuff. However was just reading the last thread on the super trawlers. And not to diminish what this guy has done but they'll only get up to a $44,000 fine, while the super-trawlers get fined $40,000 for dumping 1000 truckloads of wastewater. Seems a bit unreasonable. Imo they need to up the fines for the big companies.
  2. Cheers for the opinions guys. Might have a look into getting some. Guess it can't be that bad to just try it haha. Probably will go S factor as I fish squidgies mainyl and trust the brand. But have head good htings from lots of other companies too. I guess it's one of those thngs that you have to try. I mean how much of the stuff you see in videos is just marketing?
  3. Hi all, I've recently begun to fish regularly and have been using soft plastics due to their convinience. Have been fairly successful and am happy with my progress as I learn. However one question I have is whether scent is worth it. I see it around and it seems to get a fairly good wrap, however for a fisho on a budget it's just another thing I have to get (already looking to upgrade my reel and give my soft plastc collection a nice boost). Is it worth it? Has anyone made their own? I'm mainly trgetting bream by the way.
  4. Solid stuff. I've fished mono all my life but I'm looking to get into the bream scene a bit more (Oh dear haha! ) Should be gearing up soon, will be nice to try braid after all I've heard about it. Nice fish too, I like Blackwattle Bay if I feel like I need a fish as it's so close for me.
  5. Solid little session and nice new gear! Do you go down to BWB often? I used to go more and just walk around the shoreline, but haven't been down much this winter. Love going ultralight and casting right up against the walls. The point is also nice but there's often people there so I just move on haha
  6. Hi all, Just a quick build on how I reworked my Halco Twisty which I broke when casting for tailor the other day (goddam bridge pylons haha!) After breaking the lure I decided that it could work for a nice saltwater spinner for tailor as well as working on freshwater species. I used a 3-way swivel, a clip swivel, the halco, a jighead and a selection of soft-plastics. I'll add some pictures and a video showinghow it worked Hopefully I can snag some fish on this. If so watch this space and the report section for a nice write-up! The video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AYe944taZp8&nohtml5=False&ab_channel=ivowalne My room now that it's holidays haha What you need The finished bait
  7. Hey guys, I normally fish with plastics such as Gulp or Squidgies which come with scent. However I was thinking of trying some other brands that don't come with scent. Should I make or buy something to put on these? Or is a good action enough? P.S. - don't need any brands or anything, I have some ideas. Just was wondering about your personal experience and whether you find the scent to be beneficia on unscented plastics. Cheers, Ivo
  8. Thanks adamski for the tips Yeah Iron Cove is pretty new to me even though it's so close. I normally fish around Rozelle bay and pyrmont or up the lane Cove river on a yak. Will definately check out around the canals at some stage, read some good stuff about the foreshore in front of Le Montage. Am going to try some slightly lighter heads as well, especially when it's calm. I'll get that bream one day haha
  9. Went down to Iron Cove this afternoon with the aim of fishing around the point from King george Park to the Iron Cove Bridge for some bream on the SP's, something I just can't seem to do! Was my first fish up this end of the cove and I headed down with about an hour and a half until high tide, planning to fish until dark (around an hour after high). Things seemed good when I got into a fish on my first cast, however it turned out to only be a small choper tailor, something tht would turn out to sum up my day. After a few more tailor and a bream that spat my 2inch pumpkinseed grub a couple of metres from shore I moved further round the point. Couple of casts into snaggy terrain, now with the 65mm bloodworm wriggler (I find when the fish are extremely active Gulp bait just gets destroyed by toadies and tailor too fast) and I'm sure I'm locked up in the rocks until it starts to move. A little while later I haul a small flathead onto the beach, a slight shock considering how much it ran, very unlike the typical flatheads fight. A welcome confidence booster but still no bream! As the tide stops running I focus on casting to an old broken drain pipe that forms some lovely structure in front of King George Park. The trees have also begun to shade the pipe and I feel in with a solid chance of 'ole breambo. Alas, he fails to show his face, but I manage a solid 42cm flathead that fought nicely on my 1-3kg outfit with 6lb line. A few more casts and suddenly the water about 20m ahead bursts up with tailor chasing what I believe must be poddy mullet or other baitfish. I curse for forgetting to pack the hardbodies and surface lures and run along to cast my SP into the action. After losing out to a large tailor who ran me round the previously mentioned pipe I land a few choppers but can't seem to get into the 30cm+ fish I'm seeing further out. I get bored of losing plastics and performing surgery on micro-tailor who seem to be defying the laws of science with the way they hook themselves and move oer the Iron Cove bridge to a new spot at Birkenhead Wharf (One 15cm fish had managed to have the hook go in one side of his jaw and back out the opposite gill plate in the other direction, while my plastic was half through his gills and half poking out his mouth? ) Thank the gods for barbless hooks! The wharf looks fishy and when a guy I meet says he nailed a 46cm bream last night my eyes light up as yours truly prepares to battle the hallowed 50cm bream king . Sadly all we can manage is more &%^*ing choppers and a few flathead, so as night rolls in I pack up and leave, pondering when I'll get that elusive 30cm+ bream on a plastic. Overall a mixed day with some nice flatties and a could have been bream and large tailor, but not a bad session and I will most likely head down again for a full day once school holidays come round. Thanks for reading and hope you learnt something about how the area fishes . Bonus points to anyone that can give some advice on getting the bream . I'm currently using 1/16 and 1/8 jigheads and am fishing pretty slow, should I go lighter? I'm getting other species so I think my plastic choice is alright...
  10. Especially with bream they can be wary. My tip is when you see the rod slowly go over wait a second before striking to let them get it down. Works on other species like whiting as well. Often they'll nibble first and then go for the big strike. Waiting has improved my catch and hookup rates significantly. Don't wait too long however Goodluck
  11. Kept 20 fish between the 3 of you? Where do you keep them? Surely they don't get eaten that fast haha. Great trip by the looks of it though
  12. Wouldn't have a clue but I always see the jet ski-ing fisho's on botany bay. Any Raiders who knows one care to get in touch? It's an awesome idea
  13. not jetties but lane cove river can produce. Any of the parks around balmain can also shine. You're using bait i presume? Blackwattle and Rozelle bay can be slow but produce decent bream and flatties. Could also try for mullet around the canal entrance, but they're finicky at the best of times. If fishing LCR then staying on the hunters hill side is often better as there is more drop offs and structure. Edit: Iron Cove bridge can also work, and is close to parks etc

    Crab shaped SP's

Thanks alot! Will check out the videos
  15. Hey guys, was just wondering as to how effective you think crab shaped SP's are when compared to say a grub, wriggler etc. Was mainly asking as they don't get the press as much as say gulp pumkinseed wrigglers Also how would you go about rigging them for esturary work? I have seen some with a double hook rigging? I can only see this working if you can fish wieghtless. Thanks for your advice
  16. Yeah I'll have to go through the way i tie it really in depth, because i started using it simply because it seemed logical and strong and simple. I'm not sure. And yes, I'm mainly using 6-12lb mono
  17. Hey Raiders, Due to its ease to tie and the reported strength of the knot I have been trying to use the Trilene knot for a few of my hook to leader connections. However I often notice that the knot seems to slip or begin to come undone after only a few casts. Any tips on tying the knot in order to avoid this issue, or should I go back to using other knots (I often use loops as I fish HB's and SP's)
  18. Will sell family for lures :P

    Ultra-light Reels

Sounds Great! I'll check them out. Thanks for the pointer
  20. Hi Raiders, I am looking to purchase a new reel to go with my 1-3kg bream rod. I would be looking at a 1000-2500 size reel to load up with 6-8lb braid. Anytips on what are some good entry-medium level reels, also any tips on braid as well would be great.
  21. My First fishing Report, so feel free to give some tips and ideas for the future! Also sorry for the time taken to write this up, I mainly wanted to just get used to adding my 2 cents to the forums Headed down to rozelle bay to run some new gear through its paces a couple of days ago (3/1/16). Headed out about 5:45am with the intention of slowly working my way around the bay and hopefully hooking up on some nice bream that I've seen everytime I walk around the park. A few casts in and we get a nice hook up and fun run from a small chopper tailor (around 20-25cm). Very next cast and we hook up again, this time the fish went a little bigger, around the 25cm mark. Not bad for 10 minutes of fishing, and nice fun on a 1-3kg rod and 2000 size reel! Unfortuantly nothing bigger was biting so after 8 tailor in about 15 mins I decided to move on and target the bigger fish. Bites seemed to slow up as the tide was dropping though and the water was getting fairly shallow, making casting into the drop offs and structure fairly hard. However I then moved around to a small wharf and picked up a 45cm flathead fishing 2 inch Squidgys on a 1/16th jighead. Sadly the bits slowed up and I left for home at about 8am, happy and excited to have christened my new gear Headed out again in the pouring rain on the 6th , and again got stuck into some nice tailor on a floated piece of bread soaked in anchovy oil (my secret ingredient when i finish a jar). Wanted to target the schools of mullet that I had seen but to no avail, i think the wet conditions probably had something to do with that. Switched back to an orange 2 inch squidgy in the hope of catching that all important big breambo Working my way around the points it was fairly quiet until a nice soft pulling bite. I give the fish some line to play with and reel in. This beast is a monster and I work it slowly towards the shore. As it comes up I see the body of a huge bream , easily 40cms. However the bugger turns and decides to have one last run, rolling the hook as it turns away!!! After regaing my composure and vouching to never use barbless hooks again (the things we say when they get away haha) I continued to fish, snags being par for the course. I do however manage a couple of smaller bream (22 and 27cm) before the day gets too wet and I head home. Rest assured, I'll be back there again until i get that monster haha
