You're more likely to have landbased success in the warmer months in my opinion although the dam fishes well year round. The summer months are definitely more comfortable, with the temperature often dropping into the negatives in winter.

You can't beat the powerbait salmon eggs here... the amount of big fish I've seen caught just off the ramp at the Reef is crazy. You also weed out the micro reddies which won't touch powerbait.

sweet thanks heaps mate i am sure there is a tackle shop in town ill pop in there and grab some gear

I've kayak fished oberon 4 times this year. Plenty of big trout getting around and I've caught a feed everytime.

Are you thinking of fishing it landbased or kayak/boat?

Land Base mate we will be using baits (worms) not sure when we are heading over but are the warmer months better the the colder?

Hey @marks1984, Windsor bridge area does produce fish and it’s amazing what you can pull out of that area (bass, estuary perch, flathead, bream - even trout occasionally.

HOWEVER there is a very dangerous phenomenon on the northern side under the bridge at an area they call “the beach”, several people have drowned here due to the sand Bank collapsing and “sucking” downwards. There are are much more productive area upstream and downstream from the bridge area itself. (The “breakaway”). Also Yarramundi is a great spot - especially in summer where you can also catch mullet and herring and of course the ever present carp (greatignters on light line).
if you have a canoe you will open up even more opportunities.

North Richmond is also an area worth focusing on and in summer the area can really fire.
Be aware that it is closed season on Bass and Estuary Perch until August 31st.

    thanks Pickles

Fished there a long time a go with bait.

    Bass & bream.

    Just a note.

Didn't the bridge cop the floods last year & was damaged ?

    Good luck.

Yeah mate we had floods here the new bridge was not damaged. A few years ago even with the old bridge when we had the floods I don't recall that being damaged either

  5. Gday all,

heading out to the harbour this weekend anyone know if it is firing at the moment would not mind chasing kings, salmon and tailor just the norm, any info would be great dont need to know spots as we all have our secret spots lol

    thanks in advance

  6. Good Afternoon All,

After all this rain the water will be so brown after all of the run off we have had, now how will the bass react? do they shut down in times like these or not? is it worth going for a flick or am i just wasting my time?

    thanks all

Because of this post I've actually been putting a great deal of thought into bass on cranka crabs and I've definetly thought of a couple of limitations

It would be limited to reaction bite, focused on when bass sit up under trees focused on falling insects in the height of summer, I read an article awhile ago on using spider style plastics to the same effect

The other major limitation is the hooks, tge floating claw hooks are perfect for fish like bream that eat the claws first, and eel tailed cats in the fresh the way they slam and grind the lure the claws catch tgeir blubbery lips, with an implosion feeder like a bass the hooks are likely to miss or not get a good hold especially when you need to put some pressure on the fish

On the flip side a bass on a cranka crab sounds pretty cool, I'm definitely gonna have a crack at it when summer comes

yeah thank mate i am going to give it a crack as well

I've personally never caught a bass on one, know a few fellas that have, cast up under overhanging trees they'd work

They're really effective for sight casting and catching eel tailed catfish

    thanks mate

Upstream of Pheasants Nest Weir is the no go area, the downstream bit has suffered a lot from mining in the nineties and its a long time since I fished it but a few lost bass, protected macquarie perch or murray cod would be unlikely but not impossible .Below Maldon Weir would be better spot if you can still drive down there.

    THANKS MATE

Ive fished the Nepean for good bass at nearby Maldon, so cant accurately help. In saying that i know what Cataract dam contains including murray cod. I imagine the fishing in the river would be okay. Check the regulations though as to where you fish and good luck.

Thanks jordy man i am definitely going to give it a try. Yeah i fish either the nepean or yarramundi bass and carp good fighting fish
