  1. Thanks for the info RickMarlin. I didn't want to go there and find that he couldn't walk the full distance in or it was so steep he couldn't walk up the path. I don't mind carrying his bagge but he's too big to put on my shoulders(lol). Appreciate the info and I will definitely try it out over the coming weeks.
  2. I have read a lot about TCD but never been there. A mate of mine is suggesting we go but I am concerned about the walk in. My mate is 62 and has a minor heart condition, I'm just worried about the walk in. I believe it is about 20 minutes walking time, but can anyone advise if it is an easy walk, if it's uphill, hard ground etc. I just need to make sure that it won't be too hard for him. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
  3. I kow Oberon Dam is stuffed now. Last time i went, 18 monhs ago, i saw nothing but baby Redfin being caught Not a Rainbow in sight.
  4. Interesting comments and thanks. We are hopefully going back again next week, even if the fish are not that big its still fun, a day out with my Lads and we will look at changing the times a bit. Cheers
  5. I have been to a fishing spot a couple of times in the last month, land based and around the Hunters Hill area. We've always timed it so we get there about 4pm and fish until around 9pm, on both occasions the high tide was around the 8-9pm time, either just on or just after darkness. We have caught lots of undersize bream and flatties but a couple of legal pan sized in amongst them. The funny part is that as soon as darkness comes, the fish just stop biting. It goes from lots of rubbish and pest fish biiting, straight to nothing at all, not a touch in an hour or more. On the last occasion another guy was there and we were talking, he lives locally and goes fishing often and he said he has never caught anything there at night, only the daytime. I find it hard to believe that you cannot catch fish there at night. It just doesnt make sense. If you said you ONLY catch at night then i would believe that because of water traffic, depth of water and other things, but i have never been to a place where you dont catch or even get bites, at night. Any comments or advice?
  6. Hi Guys, Im a new member so i thought i would drop in and say hello I used to do a lot of fishing 25 years ago but work and circumstances and whatever...... fishing fell by the wayside. I had a 4.9m Markham Whaler which was awesome. My kids are now young adults and they have spurned the fishing instinct in me again. We recently have done a few trips to places like The Spit, Nepean River and yep, you guessed, im hooked. (lol) My first time out again after 20 odd years and i couldnt even cast, though, after the 5th attempt it was getting way better. I cant believe how much the fishing scene has changed, new tackle, some amazing rods and reels. Everything is so much improved. I used to do a lot of fishing for Trout at lake Oberon, but i was devastated to read about Redfin Perch. To me, thats bad news I have a partially disabled son that has difficulty walking over uneven surfaces so beach fishing is hard, rock fishing is not even remotely possible so im restricted to places like The Spit, Sydney Wharfs and easily accessable areas. We just recently had a great morning catching little mullet and some timy 6 inch fish that may have been some sort of perch, using bread and corn at the Nepean. What a ball....just being out there having fun. I missed the Old Man as he passed away 20 year ago which is around the same time i stopped fishing. But the time has come......Now my kids are getting me back into it Anyone that knows Steve Warne from "Team Ungry", a well known off shore game fisheman, im his younger brother, though not even close top being as skillful as he is. Anyways, I wont bore you any longer, just wanted to say hi, i figure after lurking and reading for a few weks that it was about the time i made a post. Cheers all
  7. Hello Jian. DO NOT confuse the statement above with the Tide Levels. fisholb was warning that wave heights / swell above 2m can be dangerous. This has nothig to do with the tide levels which is what I believe you are meaning. Please be careful and pay attention to the wave height / swell as that is what will kill you. The swell wont be known until that day and even then can change pretty fast. As always, observe the ocean and wave patterns for a while before going onto any rocks or ledges. You should be able to work out pretty fast if you can safely fish the area. (By the way, Hello everyone Ive been lurking for weeks just reading learning and getting jealous at all the great catches, this is my 1st post so I may as well introduce myself while i am here.)
