  1. Donna. I am in no way a soccer fan, probably watched 1 maybe 2 games in my whole lifetime. I watched 5 minutes here and 5 minutes there on and off last night and I watched the final 5 minutes of play and then the penalty shootout . I had no idea how many attemps each side had or anything about it. But I tell you what, I am a tough old bugger but I don't mind admitting I got just a little choked up when the Matildas landed that final goal to progress to the semi finals. Frank
  2. Is your transducer placed on the upstroke of the propeller and within 45cm of the prop ?. If so replace it to the down stroke (Starboard) side of the transom. Other than that, it looks like a sensitivity issue to me. Sometimes when downrigging I get lines similar to this and it's just the echo from my bomb that is stayind in the ping zone. Others may have better idea. Frank

    Bowsprit

What type of anchor are you using , chain etc ? most anchors would be wider than 50mm so as Noel said show us a photo of the boat and anchor and we may be able to help answer your question. Frank

    Rust repair

In days gone by when I worked on trailers often I adapted a tool to fit a 4" grinder that had a 18" arm fitted with emery paper. I had to cut away a section of the bottom of the Xmember and grind away the rust on the inside of the Xmember, This would only do 18" from either side of the centre of the Xmember but it was usually enough, when I ground the rust away I would coat the inside of the Xmember with cold gal using a stick with a rag wrapped around it as a brush. Then when all dry I would weld the section I cut out back in place. This would give the trailer several more years of service. Never had one come back to me for warranty so it must have worked. You could do the same using chisels and sticks etc. But to be honest it's probably easier and quicker to just replace the whole Xmember. I don't like rust converter. Frank
  10. Hi all. Hope I don't bore anyone with this topic but here we go. I bought yet another boat to go with my fleet. This one will live in my 2nd home down Bermagui way, Cobargo to be precise. It is a Pride Gazelle 18 foot open runabout with a bow rider size anchor well and a 140hp Johnson outboard sitting on a marlin 4 wheel trailer. Filthy dirty at the moment but this is how it is at the moment. The trailer had disc brakes with no pads in the calipers so have ordered new discs, calipers, and pads . Boat didn't have bilge pump so 1100gph pump ordered, I will remove drivers back to back seat as it is very awkward to stand up and steer, I will replace with this on pedestal Well that's it for now, I will add more as I progress. Lot's to be done and really don't know where to start. The wiring will all be removed and new wiring done throughout boat. Transducer will be fitted to Starboard side of transom and the 9" Lowrance sounder/gps will be fitted. Frank

    Crank battery ?

I will be removing the drivers Back to back seat out as it is awkward to stand up while driving and I prefer to be standing while driving the boat. Will replace with this one standing on a pedastal. Had it sitting in the shed for a while so might as well get some use out of it. Frank

    Crank battery ?

The boat is filthy at the moment as it's been sitting around for a while (I assume) . After I give it a karcher and a bit of a tidy up I will post some proper photos of it. But for now here is what the fishing room is. It has those horrible back to back seats in it. But they are quite comfortable with storage under them so I will be leaving them in for the time being. you can see it needs a good clean out. Frank

    Crank battery ?

Yes mate will be taking it outside. I do have a river boat already down there. The boat is an old one but with a few new gadgets in it, it should be a good outside boat. 19ft Pride Gazelle 140hp Johnson. The motor is old but has good compression and starts easily and revs hard. Plenty of fishing room and the main reason I bought it. Frank

    Crank battery ?

Zoran. Thanks for the info mate . You explain it well and I have learnt yet another thing that will no doubt help along the way. New battery on the drawing board ( tomorrow ) . I have to re-wire this boat from start to finish so might as well start with new everything including battery. Frank

    Crank battery ?

Think I will just bight the bullett and go and buy new crank battery and use this one for the electronics. Plenty of room in the boat for 2nd battery. Frank

    Crank battery ?

Hi all. I just bought another boat to take down to Bermagui and leave there so I don't have to drag a boat all the way down when I want to go. Anyhow a question. It has a deep cycle battery in it as a crank battery for the motor. Is this OK or would I have to buy a dedicated crank battery for the motor ?. Frank
  17. No different from cooking on a camping trip only you have water under you instead of dirt. The small portable stoves with butane canisters are very safe these days and if you have your wits about you all is good, just make sure the stove is pretty level and the saucepan or whatever you are using is firmly sitting comfortably. Gas BBQ's are very popular and are fitted to all house boats etc . For a quick easy snack you can have a couple of frankferts in a thermos flask, a couple of slices of bread some fried onion and capsicum and you have a great hot dog. Frank
  18. Yes mate that is the stuff, have about 30 kilo of it. Actually there is a bit of a story behind where I got it from that would surprise you. Frank
  19. I would rather Fishraiders get the benefit of cheap sinkers. If I don't sell majority of it I will melt them down and make downrigger bombs from them, which I know I can sell at a good price. Frank
  20. Neil. I first thought I would sell the sinkers at scrap led price but when I seen it was just $2 a kilo I thought I will just hang onto it all, not worth selling at that price. Frank
  21. Hi guys. I have a heap of sinkers that I will never use and thought I would offer them to members here to save them some dollars. My question before putting them up for sale is What should I sell them for ? I mean I want them gone but I don't want to simply give them all away. I have Snapper leads, bean sinkers, spoon sinkers, and some ball sinkers with a nipple on them similar to a round bell type. What do you Guys/Gals think I should ask for them ? Probably sell by the kilo so how much for a kilo of lead sinker ?. I also have a heap of wheel weights that need to be melted down which still have the steel fasteners in them. As well I have about 30 kilo of shot lead, small beads which shotgun cartridges/bullets are made from. Sale would be mainly pick up from my house but I could post but keep in mind postage costs. Frank
  22. Here is a Pongrass 5.8 from an earlier thread. Think you may have to re-thing what your boat is. Could possibly still be a pongrass. How are you measuring the boat length. Get a tape and run from tip of bow through to top of transom. Do not measure from tip of bow around gunnel to transom. Frank

    tidy up

I knew John Knoll when he first started making his lures long before they were moulded. He gave me several of his prototypes and a few that never made it to production. Frank
