  1. Thank you for all the input guys. The value of this forum is huge, I really appreciate it. Haynze I think I'll take your advice and hit shellharbour for the better ramp and protection at the gravel loader if the crew gets sick.
  2. Hi Guys, I fish in botany bay with my wife in my surtees 5.5m boat, I've got another couple joining us this week end and I'm thinking of going to port kembla as we never seem to catch anything other than the undersized snapper in botany bay. My wife and the other couple get sea sick pretty easily, would it be wise to hang around port kembla break walls? I've never been but from the looks of it, there is plenty of protection from the open waters and from the sounds of it, more fish than Sydney water systems. What would be the go for five islands as far as sheltered from chop and swell? Cheers, -Rob
  3. hey mate if you want, you can come out in my boat on the week end, not sure how big yours is but mines a surtees 5.5 meter plate boat and can handle some bad weather. I'm usually out there on the week ends by myself trolling up and down the heads. PM me if you're keen.
  4. thank you very much gentlemen. Raymondo, You've convinced me to go the alu over SS as I doubt I would need it for my applications. Foghorn, I take it your original AL prop wasn't a Solas one? Cheers, -Rob
  5. Hi Guys, I've been quoted $640 for a stainless steel prop form solas and $289 for a compression cast aluminium one. The motor is a 90hp honda 2011 model and currently has a banged up 3 blade aluminium yamaha prop on there. I'm hoping for some better performance, it seems as though the motor revs a bit too easily and could use a bigger prop / pitch Do you guys think that is a good quote from solas or should I go somewhere else? and... this has been asked a million times before but... you reckon the stainless steel is worth that much more? -Rob
  6. the trailer is currently registered interstate and they won't give me any information on it based on privacy laws.
  7. I'm looking to help a friend buy a boat and trailer package from interstate and the trailer has a 4 digit number welded onto the chassy. I always thought this number was meant to be the same last 4 numbers on the VIN. In this case, it is not. Does that mean it's stolen and has been re birthed? How can I prove that the compliance plate and rego is for that trailer if these numbers don't match?
  8. lol. So the basic answer is yes, they will all hurt me. hahaha - awesome. Thanks guys
  9. Hi Guys, I'm a fishing newbie and I've got a question about handling a few different species in regards to safety: squid and octopus: I've never caught one before but just got a squid jig so I'm going to start targeting them. Are they safe to handle in anyway? Is there a certain size where they have enough teeth to hurt me? Do they have teeth or mouths and require those areas to be avoided? Leather jackets: Is that spine on them dangerous/poisenous? I almost never use my pliers to take the hooks out, I just grab the fish next to the eyes and use my hands but that spike on the leather jacket always has me cautious puffer fish: Are those spikes sharp/poisenous? I always use pliers with them as I'm too freaked out by all those spikes. Am I just being a wuss? yabbys/nippers from pump: I've never caught them before, I see people pumping them out and they're tiny, about the size of my finger. I assume they're harmless and those claws don't do anything? Thanks, -Rob
  10. hmmm.... recurve, check your PM
  11. Hi Guys, Does anyone have a good boat shop they can recommend to get work done? I need an electric winch installed and some future servicing done. Any one have an idea on how much installing a winch should cost on a 5.5 meter plate aluminium boat? Thanks, -Rob
  12. thought i'd drop an update. As I called to confirm a final date and was bout to book tickets to QLD to pick up the boat, it was sold! so i'm back to the drawing board. What boat would you say is more seaworthy? $26000 a webster 4.6 with a 60 yammie 4 stroke on the back? http://www.boatsales.com.au/boats-for-sale/private/used/SSE-AD-4424174/2004-WEBSTERS-TWINFISHER-46-RUNABOUT?cr=10&psq=((Make%3D[WEBSTERS TWINFISHER]%26(((SiloType%3DDealer used boats|SiloType%3DDealer new boats)|SiloType%3DPrivate used boats)|SiloType%3DDemo and near new boats))%26Service%3DBoatsales)&pso=0&pss=Premium or $32000 a surtees 4.85 workmate with a 60 yammie 4 stroke on the back http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/dundathu/tinnies-dinghies/boat-for-sale/1127141546 I've been in a 4.6 before and it felt great but I don't have much experience to compare them with. I did notice the hard pounding if they got airborn off the back of 1 meter swell at botany bay heads which makes me wonder what the "soft ride" of a surtees would feel like and how much stability would I lose?
  13. New Signing all you have to do is type "suzuki outboard corrosion problem" into google, but here is one of many links anyway: http://www.ausfish.com.au/vforum/showthread.php/186112-Suzuki-4-stroke-engine-holder-problem-serious-corrosion I hear not all of them have the issue, I rang up a marine shop in SE QLD and spoke with their head mechanic there. They are a suzuki dealership so they deal with plenty of suzuki's and he says he has only ever seen a couple of motors have the issue so according to him it's a rare occurrence.
