  1. norah canyons 20.6 dgs..no bait..no fish.......rick
  2. personally I think there are too many variables to compare..location..species available..effort vs catch rate..tackle used...I wont even offer an answer because I believe you truly cant pick one over the other..i say this as I fish both and often at the same time..instead of choosing one I just call it FISHING...rick
  3. sterndrives are fine so long as they have been maintained..main issues are the rubber bellows from drive unit to base and sealing boots on gear cables so water doesn't shoot into engine bay..rick

    go the blues....big win ..rick
  5. I seen longtails at port stephens two weeks ago and by sst charts the waters nearly the same down your way..besides that we catch yfin off the rocks up and down the coast so there is nothing stopping them from being there especially if there is bait...they have to eat...rick
  6. sharking normally involves burleying heavy..i seem to recall hearing its illegal in estuaries.after hearing all the controversy in lake Macquarie with idiots targeting bulls and hammers then just dumping them..anyone know the legalities ????..rick
  7. if you dive take notice where you are seeing schools of yakkas then go that area in yak and burley with bread..rick
  8. I have the kato trekking pack and luv it it has 4 tackle boxes heaps of pockets..hard plastic base with space between bottom and tackle boxes in the section above it glasses case...comfortable to wear for long hours hiking for murray cod..i highly recommend them...a shop have them on special every few weeks for under $60...rick
  9. the rating of the line doesn't equate to the weight of the fish you catch..i have caught 80kg marlin on 6kg line...and 18kg tuna on 4kg line...for your SPs stick to a 2/4kg rod you can still run4 or 5kg line just don't fish too heavy on the drag..im using 10lb braid over2/4kg 7ft rod for cod and have no probs catching cod up to 8/9kg...stay light and enjoy the fight..rick
  10. heres another foto to whet your appetite...8.5kg on slimie head as usual...sorry bout quality of pic...rick
  11. no worries im trying to work out when in a month or so when I can get a couple of days away and tee up a trip with scratchie and anyone else that wants to go for an island bash..lookout reds we are coming...rick
  12. good onya baz keep tryin for them reds mate..the results will come..im hopin to get up there next weekend..rick
  13. its a 1980 model vsea so its not too bad ..I hadn't noticed that but will do some cleaning up on them now mate..cheers...the rack works great it gets all the extra rods out from underfoot and makes fishin serious easier...rick
  14. ive fished splitrock quite a few times..plenty of goldens..there are good numbers of cod..you are probably better off fishin now than when its warmer..because there are less skiers stirrin up the joint...fish into the dark with big surface lures and your in with a chance of big cod...rick
  15. both wrecks are basically gone..sanded up or broken up..the advance hasn't had decent fish for years....we used to get jew there but we are talkin 20yrs ago....I have two jew spots close to Swansea but I don't give these marks out..the couple of small pinnacles down from the sharkfin fish alright sometimes but are hard to find..you need to travel down to the fauklins or cones out from bird is or further to norah for consistent reds.. for kings 23 miles to the perch grounds off norah mistakenly called texas..which is in closer...there is reef nth off redhead and Dudley but its hit an miss...the majority of kings in the channel of late are undersize and its a lot of work for nothing..you can jig good squid inside moon is or blackies bommie...ive fished out here for 40 yrs and im getting sick of donuts locally so thats why I head nth to the bay...rick
  16. Went away fro the normal with new rocket launcher we fish mostly with canopy down on windscreen out of the way so i put launcher on bow so extra rods are out of the way leaving cockpit free to fish uncluttered...very happy with it..rick
  17. mate..unfortunately compared to the rest of the coast north or south Swansea is a reef desert...theres a couple of closely guarded small reefs to the south out to 60 mtrs..the most reef is in 90mtrs plus known as the farm..jackets are a major problem out there..there is a few reefs shallower but you need to travel south of wybung out from bird island to find a sprinkling of reefs..i live at gorokan.but lived at gwandalan for 14yrs and Swansea for twelve before that..ive fished the lake an out from Swansea all my life...these days I bite the bullet an head to port stephens every chance I get...where do you live now..we might be able to organize a trip..i have a vsea and definetly fish every third wknd of month as this is my local comp wknd...I try an get out as much as possible but cant always get an offside..i don't mind jumpin in with others if I can help find a feed...rick
  18. make excellent snapper baits...rick
  19. my only advice would be leave telescopic rods alone..99% are rubbish go with quality 2 or 3 piece rods.rick
  20. only a couple dependant on how many beers are consumed during process...rick
  21. hard to pick when to do it..its fairly easy to do as we have replaced them on two milligan nippers with 3.0ltr mercs and had no dramas...rick
  22. sounds like your on top of it Geoff.....can you get a length of garden hose into your tank and siphon out old fuel ???if not yo may be able to disconnect fuel line at motor extend it with hose then pump it and try to siphon that way...rick
