  1. Thanks for the replies, I thought they were bulls for sure Its good too hear that others agree.
  2. Hello Raiders, Spent the night in our runabout yesterday behind an island in the Hawkesbury. I forgot what the spot is called. It is further in than the road bridge. Maybe Milson island? Anyway was soaking some dead herring and mullet for jewfish. My dad got two jewie runs but the hooks didn't set! apart for that only bycatch were two damn pike eels. Fishing wasn't very good. Wanted to report very warm water 25-26degrees. I think that there were lots of Bull sharks around when tide was running. We got busted off a dozen times. The sharks would hit aggressively, run fast against current and then when they felt the hook, would shake their heads violently cutting the line. The leader would be completely shredded and the hooks were either gone or didn't set. I estimate from the weight that the sharks were only pups around 1m. The last shark that I hooked was much bigger. Even if the hook did set it might have spooled me. I think it might of been a big mum. Can anyone confirm that these are likely bull sharks or is there a more likely candidate? Thanks in advance, Kingy fisho
  3. Hello everyone, I was searching the internet for some braid deals and came across some asari micro multi coloured braid. It claims to be 8 strand. I know that asari is owned by jm gillies and was wondering if anyone else had used this braid and what they thought of it. Is it a cheap braid? Was it just on special? Was selling for about $30 for 150m. Pretty good value for 8 strand... if it's legit!
  4. Thanks to the replies, does anyone have any experience with the smaller, budget daiwas? Such as the laguna 4000?
  5. Thanks for the reply, You are correct in assuming I meant the sienna fd. I'm a little confused in regards to what makes the fe better than the fd. On paper the fd beats the fe as they have equal specs apart for the amount of bearings where the fd has 3+1 and the fe has 1+1. I know that a reel can have 10 bearings and still be worse than a 1 bearing reel but both being small shimano reels I assume that they have standardised parts which would mean the fd having more bearings would be superior in terms of smoothness. And also what is the main difference between a cazna and a sienna? I felt a cazna at a shop and it felt a little heavier (more metal?). Do you have experience with the Sedona. It seems to be quite a solid little reel. There is probably a logical answer regarding the sienna fe. It would be greatly appreciated if you could clear that up.
  6. Hello everybody, I need a new 4000 size spin reel and was tossing between a shimano cazna and a daiwa laguna. These are only cheep reels but was wondering if anyone had used them and what were their experiences. I am looking for a reel a step up from the sienna.
  7. Thanks guys for the replies, interesting capture Mr squidy! I've caught some fish with hooks in their mouths but never severely injured, let alone a night time king!
  8. This is my first post but I've read the forum for quite sometime. I was wondering if anyone had ever caught a kingfish at night? I've caught many over the few years I have fished but I've always believed that they were day time, visual hunters. I'd love to hear any stories of night time kingfish.
  9. I find that rats can be caught at pretty much any harbour wharf and legal fish around headland. Around headlands a boat is easier to fish from than the rocks as well as a lot safer.
