headed up to newcastle harbour with a fellow Raider ARC H (Archie) to try our luck on a couple of fish.
got there about 12:00 armed with pilchards, mullet and my trusty box of lures. we casted out our rods and chucked them in the rod holders while we rigged up our rods with our selected lures. Archie chose a zman grub and i chose a 5g halco twisty
there were heaps of schools of small baitfish around and heaps of the smaller pelagics were chasing them
i threw my 5g metal out and BANG!!!! i was on to my first ever salmon. It did a series of hard runs and jumps, When i got it up close we thought it was a rat king. it did another hard run and then archie nicely netted it.
a bit later on around the change of the tide archie hooked up a nice fat 34cm bream on mullet. it fought hard on 8lb gear and was a beutiful looking bream
i caught a 29cm bream just after that, then a flattie and flounder which were both safely released
i then caught a tailor and archie caught another healthy bream on his zman grub measuring 30cm
after a bit of the action had stopped we thought we would pack up. just as we had finished packing up archie caught another bream measuring 25cm, then he caught a nice tailor just after that
overall it was a great day out in the harbour and lots of fish were caught
here is a couple of pics, didnt get any of pics of the fish we caught at the end because we were all packed up
