sounds like you're flogging it around abit to much. if you're in a auto and can throw it into a "manual mode" i sat in 2nd and 3rd sitting at about 2000rpm and let the car do the work. no need to floor it unless a section of beach is abit soft. As for tracks, i might to the occasional fire trail here and there but i mostly bought the car to tour around aus to various beaches (particularity south Australia) and fish hard, so my mods would suit sand more then rock hopping. The wash is always the worst part and spent a silly amount of time hosing out underneath and giving the car a solid clean inside and out along side all the camping equipment. Hopefully ill get back up there in a month or so weather & schedule permitting.

Bought a 4wd from sunshine coast in Queensland, really good condition, low Kms and ran in to zero dramas on the drive down to Sydney. Have to say the roads in Queensland are built for the future traffic wise & in great condition. so i thought to christen it off a beach, and what a better beach to do it on other than Stockton. The car (2008 pajero) never been off road, stock as a rock so after throwing a platform awning, set of driving light and some basic recovery gear i was off with one other mate. everyone else has commitments which sucked. Plan was to leave Sunday and return Tuesday and the weather forecast was set to be shit but that wasn't going to stop us, fishing wasn't even the main focus anyway wanted to test out the car and see how she would perform of the beach. A set of stock highway terrains down to 15psi and it handled the sand perfectly. didn't get stuck or get close to being stuck once. We left Sunday 11am and got there just on 2pm so it was a good dive up, sussed out a few gutters but structure was difficult to spot because of the 30km south easterly. The swell was right up on 2-3 meters as well. Threw lines in for the sunset bite them to get washed up down beach so we moved somewhere else for a few thumper salmon and tailor, usual beach catch. as night fell the wind got stronger so we moved to the campsite which someone took so we camped somewhere random on the beach. Wasn't too ideal has we hadn't seen anyone on the beach since dusk. Following morning after some brekky i threw in a line but there was plenty of gooey weed in the water which was impossible to get off the line and once caught around the top guide it was impossible to reel in. Didn't catch much besides dropping a tailor in the waves. By midday we moved 100 meters down the beach to reserve a deep patch for later on and hopefully away from the weed. As dusk fell a brief shower came through but with the low tide turning i threw some lines in for another handful (although smaller) salmon and a 40cm bream. Unfortunately the wind forecast was wrong and as the tide came in so did the weed and so did the 40km north easterlys which were predicted to be 15km from the south if i remember. With the tide near its peak and large plunging waves almost at out tires we decided to head back home that night instead of moving somewhere else. didn't bother taking any pics of the salmon & tailor, just quick hook removals and throwing them back in the surf, in hindsight i should've cut one up for bait.

Was a awesome spot! Only fished it a hand full of times though as a kid but was always a nice productive spot. Glad you found something, I gave it a search last night and found nothing. Would be interesting to see how many years it’ll take for it to be repaired could be, who knows. The wharf I thought was quite well built and seemed very sturdy. Area is quite protected from everything besides easterly.

Heads up for the land based fishos, received message from a little birdie today that due to the amount of people (well over 100 apparently) fishing the wharf over the last week due to the app tik tok that the wharf has partially collapsed due to the amount of people fishing it. No idea If it’s true or not, but the wharf is now 1/3 the size of what it was which means it will get flat out busy on the weekends. So, i sussed it out today and yup it’s defently collapsed. no idea If the council will close it to repair it or just leave it like they did to the wharf on lugarno avenue 6+ years ago in gunnamatta bay.

hahaha i dont blame him, though about eating it tonight then i just turfed it over the side and even waved it goodbye

haha, i'm mostly catch n release. not too often id keep a fish. They'll be waiting for you in the bay if you'd like to go there for a change.

well they have to start somewhere, and once they get these seemingly small wins the marine parks will spread like a disease

you can also bring a small 1.8 x1.8 gazebo and set that up on a wharf. Ive done this a few times in the rain and it works a charm! tie it down on a few cleats and your set. just make sure it dosnt blow away. besides that most ferry wharfs are under cover along side with various bridges.

Headed out this morning in botany bay for a couple hours. launched at yarra bay at 5.40 and was anchored by 6am. 1.7m swell from the east 10km hr westerly winds, not perfect condition's but tolerable, there was some pretty solid swell inside the bay today. The first drops down on squid and pillie cubes yielded 2 mid 40's tailor which was followed by a pan sized flounder. large schools of bonito, frigates and mac tuna were busting up, but not taking any metals or cubed baits although i did see a nearby boat just scoop 3 or 4 in a landing net. hooked onto a mid 50's kingfish which fought alot harder then it should've which was then followed by a couple 25-30cm bream. Pulled anchor up at 8.45 and headed in. Quite a productive couple hours with a rather diverse bag. All fish released & a lucky boat got the last 2 fresh squid i had.

i never launch on the weekend but have found the gate to be unlocked every time I've gone there during the weekday

i believe none of the 3 major parties will help the state in anyway. WA and SA both labour governments & the libs have tried making similar progress in NSW

Wow that sucks big time, but at least you’ve been out and given it a crack!. Atleast you’ll also have plenty of nice scenery around you to enjoy and kick back and relax. been a few Bonnie’s around gymea on pillie cubes from what I’ve seen though. hopefully you’ll have a cracker session in the port when you return, because fab won’t be catching them Cheers mate, confused me with Larkin I see 😂, I catch my squid in yowie bay, all are arrows but are around in pretty good numbers as of late. Average about 4 a session. Green eye have been very hit and miss throughout Sydney it seems, no idea why. Cheers Neil, always enjoy a good sunrise/sunset, hobie pro angler kayaks are extremely stable. They have a fairly flat bottom which gives them the stability. Your usually sitting down the whole time but after 6 hrs you’d just want to sand up for 5 minutes to have a stretch or goto the toilet. Should give it a crack one day, try something new.

Went out in the bay again this morning for some more rat fun, launched at yarra bay and made my way out to Molineux point. Conditions were set to be rather nice with basically no wind and 1mtr swell from the south east. Upon arrival there were 2 other boats anchored & and swell was a little bit more then a meter but it dropped right down to near nothing as the sun rose. A tug boat also greeted me with a solid 7ft wake which had my heart racing in the dark, had to pull anchor and nose into it otherwise that'll probably flip me. Todays selection of bait included 4 nice arrow squid and 5 yakkas caught last night. Also brought 5 pilchards just in case. Action was slow to begin with, with my livie getting chopped by a tailor, before hooking up on one in the high 40's on a squid strip, this was followed by a 60odd cm salmon which took a liking to a small live yakka. It went quiet again as the sun poked over the horizon. Action only begun around 7.30 with a kingie on a live yakka in the 60's followed by 2 more at around 55 on some squid strips. 3 yakkas left, quickly went to 2 as I load up on another 60's king. Had to reposition anchor as it didn't hold due to it being only 3kg or so & the current was screaming along the wall because of the incoming tide. I prefer to be fairly close to the wall because i tend to get abit more action. between about 8.30 and 10 i catch another 4 kings all the in the high 50's. low 60's, one of the kings on a yakka, and the other 3 on strips. Lost a good sized king on a whole squid because I tied a bad knot. whoops. total of 8 kings, lost 2, 1 tailor 1 salmon. Glad to be blessed with another wonderful morning on the bay, few days rest now with some average weather coming over. No idea if i accidently used pics from yesterday, my desktops filled with fish pics, no idea which is which.

arm exercise is no exaggeration especially when sitting down in the kayak, its all arms. when the rod on the left side goes off i cramp up every time. its not my dominant side. can never beat a cloudless sunrise! looking like a good day tommrow too! Gday raiders, went out Wednesday morning (8/03/2023) to target some kingfish & other pelagic that may also be around. Weather was set to be perfect with a very slight offshore breeze & N/E swell which meant very little swell inside the northern section of botany bay. Armed with some fresh squid caught a few nights earlier and 5 yakkas for bait, i dropped the kayak in at yarra bay sailing club at around 5.40 and spent the next 10-20 minutes full speed over to the area I was going to fish. Full speed in the hobie is 8km/hr & the water was perfect, 24.somthing degrees, almost complete glass & zero wind at all. Felt like it was going to be a perfect day! Once anchored, adjusted my sinkers to the conditions as the current was a little strong along Molineux because of the incoming tide & had my baits out by 6:10. First hook-up was at 6.46am followed by, 7.03am, 7.33, 7.34am, 7.39am & 7.51am All on squid strips and sitting around 55cm. Live bait was bitten in half just before the gills. The bite went a little quiet throughout 8am, so id stirred up a idea of dropping down a squid strip on a 1/0 hook on my 1kg squidding rod & after about a minute on the bottom it loads up with another rat but after 10 minutes of fighting the fish the line gives out. Also had 2 other missed hook-ups just afterwards on the other rods. Live bait rod buckles over just on 9am which resulted in a 61cm king. A school of small Watson's bonnies turned up and caught a few of those on my light rod. they were about 30-40cms in length and all went back. Landed 2 more kings afterwards which got no pics off and were both in the high 50's again, and dropped 2 more before running out of all bait & heading in at 10am. 9 kings landed, 4 lost.
