Marine Rescue Brunswick will bolster its rescue capability with a new state-of-the-art life-saving device after being awarded an Australian Government Stronger Communities Grant. Marine Rescue NSW Northern Rivers Zone Duty Operations Manager John Murray said the Federal Government grant has aided the unit to purchase the Marine Rescue Northern Rivers region’s first ever USafe, a motorised remote controlled lifebuoy for rescue missions on local waterways including the Brunswick River, Simpsons Creek, Marshalls Creek and offshore.

Today we are rolling out new Rank Badges associated with each of the 19 current ranks in the community. Instead of seeing a strange rocket ship badge next to every member's profile photo, you will now see a numbered badge indicating the rank level which they have achieved in the community. You move up the ranks as you earn more points! Points are automatically earned by actively participating in the community, such as commenting on threads and responding to member questions. The fish names given to each rank are still the same. You can see the fish name for any member's rank by viewing their community profile on mobile, or alternatively hovering over the rank badge on a computer.

Hey raiders, Deckee (owners of Fishraider) have a longstanding relationship with the University of Newcastle, including an exciting new project we are working on behind the scenes for you all... 😉 They recently announced the launch of a new Bachelor of Coastal and Marine Science ahead of its first intake in Semester 1 2020 at both their Callaghan and Central Coast campuses. I wanted to share the news with you all as I suspect many of you might be quite intrigued, if you are wanting to learn about our diverse coastal environments. In the degree, students will have the opportunity to conduct fieldwork in key coastal and marine landscapes. From pristine estuaries to urban developments, major waterways and coastal zones, students will investigate and contribute to solving real world problems. The University is holding two information sessions about the program in November. It will be an opportunity to hear from leading academics, industry experts and get hands on with some of the unique equipment marine scientists are using every day.
