  1. Awesome fish. But a jew on plastic first go, thats priceless. Most of us wait years for one.
  2. Typical ones i have seen used in the past are Tuna, Kingfish, Salmon (Not Aussie salmon).
  3. Thanks for the detail. I think looking back, i should maybe restrict it to Narrabeen lake. Had no idea Sharks make it that far in. Thanks again.
  4. Yes your right. But also because fireline has almost zero stretch. so the fluro carbon provides a bit of give for the take.
  5. Unfortunately not. Being designed for fly fishers with wading in mind i think.
  6. Generally the lighter the line the less resitance to the fish both in visbility and tension. Probelm is the ability to land good size fish. Fireline helps cause it genrally holds great feel and punches well above its marked weight. Question is what type of fishing are you looking to do? If its table fish, like bream, flatties, whiting etc... then 4lb with some good fluro carbon leader in combination with a good drag, will go nicely.
  7. Recently went to the states and brought this puppy back with me. I do alot of kayak fishing and need a way to better organise my tackle when on the water. The front pockets open up at 90 degrees. provising little platforms. they also include little racks of foam so you can put flys and jigheads in there. There are about 15 pockets as well as a back back and 2 litre bladder. 2 water proof sections and rod holders. In my kayak i always found myslef with stuff every where and tables galore, especially when fly fishing. But this turned it into a real pleasure. A bit expensive considering the exchange rate but i wouldn't swap it for the world. Fishpond
  8. After watching some American fishing programs i thought i would give this idea a go. I went out to Fig Tree bridge and decided to pump up an inflatable arm chiar to fish from. Problem was how to propel myself along. Insert a pair of good flippers and i was good to go. The big question was how to land fish (especially spiney little flatties) and how would it cope in the current (my tired legs flapping). Landed four fish in all, nothing to brag about but on a hot day its a great way to keep cool. I fished 1 hour before the high till 1 hour after. just in case i could n't keep up with the tidal flow. Great way to stalk the mangroves especially your right at water levels. Easy to get your poppers under the over haning branches. So if your looking for some summer fun, give it a crack. My mate also landed this cracking 39cm bream. The stories this fish could tell.
  9. Nice catch. I'd grab a 5wt fly rod some floating bread flies and hold on for dear life.
  10. Baby sitting the little cousin. He was keen to try plastics despite the rain and wind. So we braved the conditions. 2 hours and not shake or bump. Only thing I caught was a cold. Moved over to near the caravan park and tailor were rampant. Picked up a nice little flounder for his first fish on Plastics. He was stoked. Also managed a tailor as well. I picked up 3 flatties, one was a 60cm beast (lived to spawn again) and a coup of tailor. Good to see the lake fishing healthily
  11. Just got out on the lake yesterday to try out the newish blades from ecogear. Started working them off on a slow retrieve to no success. Defintely need to have a loop knot to really get the effect. i use a fly clip. So i then went to double lift and pause. and 30 min later i had 4 fish in the bag. 2 flatties, a rock cod from a sand bar and a funny brown striped fish. I don't use many hard bodies, but when the wind gets up, current is a bit strong, or the action is a bit slow ill be pulling this out. great action. you can feel it pulse and vibrate on the lift. My advice try these out. At 15-20 dollars i would try these around sand flats and drop offs up to 2.5 m
  12. I agree. I would say the following are also things to look for [*]A rudder is essential. Helps you stay parrallel to the bank in current and wind. [*]A sand anchor. [*]Fit some rod holders [*]A little electric can also help [/ Heres what mine (The Yellow Submarine) looks like
  13. Distance in clear water is about 5 metres in sonewhere like Narrabeen Lake. In a pool or deep clear blue sea I get about 12 to 15 m. Great camera for everday use and night time. Has a feature where you can select a scene (Night, sport, portrait, landscape, etc...) and it sets every thing for you. Also does a continuous shooting mode for sequence shots.
  14. GeekFisherman, I use a little tripod. It was really cheap like 7 dollars from a Cameraq shop. its those little flexible ones with the bendy legs. Works ok for now in Narra lake in the shallows whic is where i am refining my flathead and whiting fly fishing. Cheers
  15. Search you tube for Bill Dance Bloopers. Hillarious this guy is like our rex hunt. Definitely worth looking at the lighter side of broken rods and mishaps. he also has an online FREE tv show. mostly American fishing but his soft plastics and drop shotting technique app;ly well to our conditions. http://www.myoutdoortv.com/show-microsites/bill-dance.html
