Hi Roberta My husband is a chemical engineer that has used the following process to make biodiesel. The process he used had to be up to Australian standards. I asked him to help shed some light on the biodesel debate... Biodiesel is an alternative diesel fuel that is produced from vegetable oils and animal fats. Biodiesel is a mixture of fatty esters. In order to make biodiesel it is a very simple process. The reaction that turns vegetable oil or animal fats to biodiesel is called transesterification. Materials needed: Vegetable oil or animal fat Methanol or Ethanol Potassium hydroxide or sodium hydroxide (drain cleaner) Basically the potassium or sodium hydroxide is mixed with ethanol or methanol. This is the only possible dangerous step if not mixed properly or too quickly. This makes methoxide. The vegtable oil is heated up to 55 degrees and the methoxide is poured in. The mixture is blended and left to settle for 12 to 24 hours. Once you get back the solution would be in two layers. The biodiesel layer is on top and a yellow colour. Glycerine is the bottom layer and is brown. The top layer is decanted into a clean container and the glycerine can be sold for other uses such beauty products. The biodiesel is then washed with water and a simple aerator. This process can be repeated several times in order to clean the biodiesel from by products. Now you have biodiesel that can be used safely in your car and is within standards set by the australian governement. Problems running with biodiesel can occur several ways: Mixing wrong ratios of biodiesel with regular diesel. Using biodiesel intermittenly with regular diesel. biodiesel will rot any natural or butyl rubber hosings in your engine. Therefore fuel lines and injector pump seals should be replaced with parts made from viton. fuel filter must be changed at the start of using biodiesel. Because biodiesel will free up the rust and dirt left from diesel in your tank and will pass through your fuel filter. It must be checked regulary at first. The process to make biodiesel can vary but the main process is the same. Biodiesel should be embraced since it is good for the environment, renewable and cheap. You should be encouraged to make your own biodiesel and not be discouraged because of a couple of problems that people have had with using it. You should research it before placing biodiesel in your car. If anyone would like further information on biodesel send me a PM and I can forward it to you. Hope this has helped. We had never caught squid in the lower reaches either Plankton, but it was around Pickering Point where we caught a couple of them but they seemed to be everywhere we we that day! I have also posted the recipe for my Flounder in The Kitchen for anyone who is interested. Cheers Queenfish

Ingriedients * Plain Flour * Salt & Pepper * Vegetable or Canola oill (for frying) * 1 packet of dried Shitake Mushrooms * 2 cloves of fresh Garlic * 1 small piece of Ginger * 1 tsp of Chilli Paste * 3 tbsp of Oyster Sauce * 2 tsp of Cornflour * Boiling Water To fry the flounder * clean and score the skin of the fish * season fish with salt & pepper * lightly coat flonder in flour * put enough oil in a pan to just cover the flounder and allow oil to heat up (High temp) * place fish into hot oil and cook on each side for 3-5 mins To make chinese mushroom sauce * Soak 1 packet of dried shitake mushrooms with enough boiling water to cover (leave for 2 - 3 mins) * Crush 2 cloves of fresh garlic, 1 small piece of ginger grated and a teaspoon of chilli paste into a frypan with a small amount of oil and cook for a minute. * Drain shitake mushrooms (saving the water) and add to pan stir for another minute * Add aprox half the water from the mushrooms and 3 tablespoons of oystersauce to pan and stir through * Add 2 teaspoons of cornflour to small amount of warm water mix till turns to paste * Add cornflour paste to sauce tir through to thicken Pour sauce over fish and enjoy! Frying the flounder in butter is fine, but if you like mushrooms I have the recipe below for whole deep-fried flounder with a chinese mushroom sauce. Tried this recipe out with the flounder this time and it was fantastic. Headed out to middle harbour early Saturday morning, our first outing since renovating our boat looking to catch some kings. Got to our spot around 5.30am and it didn't take long for some action to start. Our first lines in produced a nice hook up for Lee, putting a decent bend in his rod we were all waiting in anticipation for the first fish, after a few pumps of the rod unfortunately the bugger came off. While we were comiserating over the loss I managed to hook up to something, felt like an unusual bite not one I had felt before, and after a minute or two I had my first flounder in the boat. This was taking on the new Berlkley Gulp Alive soft plastics in Rootbeer gold colour. We eat tonight! We were fishing for a bit longer and my husband Mick had his first hook up for the morning, put up a decent fight, nice head shakes, got to the boat for a nice size flattie! Again on the Gulp Alive. Since we weren't getting much on the big rods set up with some nice squid heads, thought we better have a look, picking up one of the rods and winding it in noticed a little extra weight as it was surfacing noticed a decent size squid follwing it up, thought we would try to get him using our net and lucky he was a decent size managed to get him in. We also managed to catch another nice flattie and three more nice squid, also a few small snapper. It was an excellent day on the harbour and we had a fantastic meal. Can't wait to get out next week! What an AMAZING collection of lures I can't believe how very similar they are to the lures we use today. Obviously they were not too worried about foul hooking fish or catch and release back then! Rochelle

I have report from a local Delta Electricity employee last Saturday that the water levels at Lake Lyell have risen 6m since the last reports have been updated and that boats are allowed back in the lake I was at Lake Wallace last week and the water levels there were up approx 1m although the water at Lake Wallace was so very dirty last week and I imagine Lake Lyell will be the same, should be better within the next week or so. We did get a nice Rainbow though, so it's still worth braving the cold Good Luck Rochelle

Dave Lake Lyell is turnoff is just before Lithgow you can't miss the turn, big BP on the corner. I would recommend a 4WD vehicle if you are travelling early morning or late afternoon as there has been snow & black ice on the roads, very difficult to see! Great spot to camp at, very cold during the night though Looking forward to seeing some photos. Enjoy!

Great effort in some tough conditions today Eating some of those smoked fish should be of comfort to you though.

Thanks Mark Will post some more photos tonight of previous trout captures in the last couple of weeks - the colours have been spectacular. The fish that have been caught in the last month have all been of exceptional quality, good fat fish.

Lake Wallace is at Wallerawang, just past Lithgow. From Penrith on a good trip about an hour.

Went for a fish last Saturday afternoon to the Blue Mountains for some trout, very very cold. It was a pleasant surprise to see that the water levels have risen at Lake Wallace, although the water is very murky. I also heard from a local that Lake Lyell has risen approx 6m, still very murky and apparently (can anyone confirm) that boats are now allowed as the newly extended boat ramp reaches the water again. As expected with the dirty water the fishing was a bit quite But as always when the fishing is quite you can count on my hubby Mick to still manage a fish! He caught a 45cm male Rainbow Trout on a fly tied aboved a tassie devil, which was impressive in bad conditions and as this is a new technique we have just started using! So with the water levels up and a couple of weeks for the water to clear the trout fishing looks good this season. Over and Out! P.S I hear TCD water levels should also be rising shortly as some of the extra water from Lake Lyell will be pumped via underground pipes to TCD to service power station.

Hi Guys My name is Rochelle Bialous aka Queenfish. I have recently become a member of fishraider, so a little about myself I am a 26 year old Female Fisho from Minchinbury, who has been fishing since I was knee high to a grasshopper. I have always enjoyed fishing, but more so now that my husband Michael & I have had our own small twinfisher for a couple of years now. We enjoy going fishing in middle harbour Kingfish PB 6kg or up the Hawkesbury River for some nice Jews PB 8kg and over 1m. I have also recently taken to going freshwater fishing for some trout & bass etc. Unfortunately the best PB for the Rainbow trout is my Husbands at 56cm and 2.5kg. I am looking forward to meeting lot's of fishraiders. Will post some photos and reports shortly, as it is i have just posted this at work, better get back to it or won't have a job. Queenfish
