  1. i went night fishing a couple of weeks back and caught three good size flatties, but in the last couple of weeks going to the same place using the same setup and bait (ganged pilchards) , i haven't caught another Flathead at all, instead the baits are getting picked to pieces by little red bream and silver bream and the odd chopper tailor, i don't understand whats going on, where have the fish gone, it started out so well ,does anybody have any ideas on what's going on, any help would be great. cheers
  2. its quite amazing the things that go on in the water when i sit there in the quiet of the night with just the wharf lamp lighting the corner of the wharf and mullet jumping in the darkness further out , a big stingray swam past, a large longtom , octopus, all kinds of creatures swim past in the night
  3. thanks for the advice, i went to my local wharf the other night and caught a couple of good size Flatties on ganged pillies, that was good fun. On another subject while i was fishing for those flathead, i saw hundreds of Mullet schooling everywhere, they were not taking baits of any kind, i don't know what they were doing there i have never seen them there before, they have appeared the last couple of nights on the low tide near the surface it looks like they were gulping air ,it was really weird, just out a bit further there were big bust ups maybe there were Flathead there chasing the mullet i don't really know but it was fascinating to watch though.
  4. i just checked out the link on sizes and bag limits etc, wrote it all down so i can remember, catching poddy mullet is going to be tricky , can you use a trap for poddy mullet i didn't see that on that link , would be a lot easier if you could.
  5. Thanks everyone for the advice , will give it a go
  6. Thanks Scratchie will give it a go.
  7. i am fishing from a wharf targeting Flathead with fast current , the channel is not all that deep, i have tried live baiting in the past and had a few near hook ups but whatever is hitting the live bait keeps missing the hook, the first time i live baited i put the hook just behind the head and something struck and all that was left was the head, the second time i tried i pinned the hook a bit more toward the dorsal fin and not a strike at all so next time i might pin the hook through the mouth of the fish between the eyes like you suggested and see how that goes. i really don't know what fish to use as live bait, i have tried Tailor which got hit but no hook up, other than that i don't really know what fish to use and whats legal and whats not as far as size/species goes, will keep persisting and hopefully get a result soon, thanks for the advice.
  8. G'day, can anyone shed some light on where is the best place to pin a fish to use as live bait, and what fish you can use as live bait, i have tried just out of curiosity, but the result was not good , i can only assume that the fish got away, it was only in the water for about a minute and when i reeled it in there was no fish there anymore . Does the livebait require weight or is it better with no weight, any help would be great, cheers
  9. g,day all , i was just asking if anybody knew of any places to go bass fishing on the central coast, i used to fish at Penrith when i used to live down that way, but now i'm on the central coast i would like to go again any suggestions would be great , cheers
  10. i used to fish at the Entrance lake and was astounded at the amount of parents who let their kids throw small fish to the pelicans after they have been caught instead of just putting them back in the water, the fish were so small. And also if you did catch a decent fish you would have to play tug o war with the the Cormarants to try and get your fish back, i was fishing at 10pm one night and the fisheries asked me for a licence which i had, so i goes to show the fisheries can just pop up anywhere, anytime.
  11. sorry to annoy you people with more braid questions, but i believe i found the cause of my knot problem, after it happening again i looked closely at the knot i had tied to join the braid to the leader and as i was casting the braid was catching the tag on the knot, so i will have to try and find a way to trim the tags better but its quite hard with scissors. just another quick question , im using 15lb braid so do you match the leader to the braid you are using, like 15lb braid = 15lb leader or can you use lighter leaders on heavy braid say 10lb leader on 15lb braid? .
  12. Thanks everybody for your advice i will give it a go , i am new to fishing with braid, although having said that i have 15lb braid on a boatroad outfit and have had no problems with that at all, but usually i would use 3/8 or 1/2 ounce jigheads and fish water with a lot of current and still have difficulties getting to the bottom and also pick up a lot of loose weed that is floating about on the surface and under the water, just one last thing does any body know if you can buy sfactor attractant on its own?, i have only had it when buying pre rigged squidgies and now have lots of squidgies but no sfactor, and they don't seem to work very well without it, thanks again for the advice.
  13. G'day fellow fishers, i have just replaced mono with light braid on my spin stick , and the problem is every time i cast a light jig head i end up with a massive tangle of braid, i tried hard bodies and casting is fine, it only seems to happen with light braid, can anyone suggest any remedies for this problem, any help would be much appreciated, cheers
