  1. I've bought an assortment to try and some have a swivel on a ring attached to the lure and I guess those lures are designed to track without spinning. But with something like a squidgy where you use a jig head, I can imagine that set-up spinning like a top and I was thinking that attaching the hook to a swivelled leader with a lefty's loop would be a good idea. I have no idea about how they work so appreciate all the helpful advice. Thanks
  2. After a long break from fishing I'm about to get back into it and I'd like to try some lures and soft plastics. Most of the rigs I've found don't mention using a swivel which I find surprising. Any info appreciated. Thanks Cage
  3. Got the bait sorted as BP Steel River has bait and is open 24/7. I try to use fresh but like to have some worms, prawns an.d pillies as back-up. Cheers Cage
  4. Hi all, New member (I've done the intro thing) and new to fishing in the Newcastle area. I've also had a 20 year break and got old. My main interests are beach for flathead and whiting, and blackfish, both luderick and pigs. Of course I'll take anything else edible that takes my bait. I had a good look at Stockton beach and breakwall yesterday and it looks promising. The little beach on the south side was covered in tons of mullet which the pros had just netted. I have a 4WD so the beach should generally have a gutter or two. The end of the breakwall looked a possibility for pigs. OK, some questions. Is there a bait shop in Stockton, or a shop that you can get it from on the way in from Morpeth ? Good luderick spots in the lower Hunter ? Your second-best secret possie will be fine. Any other useful info for the Stockton area ? I find Stockton appealing because of it's handy location and easy access to the water. Thanks in advance for any advice. Cage

    G'day

Hi all, I'm an old fart just getting back into fishing after a 20 year break. Some a'hole decided they needed my gear more than I did and nicked the lot, all bar my Alveys which I had inside for a clean-up. My last outing was on the breakwall on the Gold Coast and I came a gutser, so some sort of cleats will be in my new kit I've just about got my kit sorted, including changing my reels to LH operation (derr, didn't know you could get LH reels) so I'm just about ready to go. I usually fish the beach and rocks looking for whiting and flathead and luderick and pigs. I'm also new to fishing in the Newcastle area so I'll also post in the appropriate forum looking for some local advice. Cheers
