  1. How do you treat the rod after its been used? Rinse or full wash?
  2. That arm bail hasn't been installed properly. Take it back to the shop and get it replaced or fixed. I can loan you a reel whilst you waiting for repair or replacement
  3. Yeah I'd like clarification on this. There are zones in sydney harbour you cannot collect bait but a lot of areas are open. Link is how i understand it... whats your understanding? https://www.dpi.nsw.gov.au/fishing/habitat/protecting-habitats/mpa
  4. If you just want to practice and not keep the fish... Silverwater... Fish across the water from Wilson park and just use soft plastics and blades... you will find what will work for you. Wentworth Point.. Soft plastics, blades and shallow divers along the point. Shallow divers for jews at the turn of the tide and turn of the light Rothesay Ave... off Bowden street. Used to flick here during lunch. Soft plastic works well. Fish the outlets for flatheads... fish shopping trolleys and rocks for bream Gladys bay.... Blades and shallow divers work well here. Pulpit point.. You can live bait for yellow tail here and jews as it gets deep. Divers and blades also work well for bread and butter

  13. Oh if you want dead ones? You can still get them frozen at pet food stores.
  14. Use tube worms, earth worms or pull your own beach worms... havn't seen blood worms in ages mate
  15. Are you going to invest in a traditional paella pan? They make all the difference as you get a really good crust on the bottom.. I'm assuming you want to make a seafood paella. What you need to make for 4 people in a single 34cm paella pan. You can use a normal medium depth frying pan if you don't have one. 250g mussels 250gm clams 2500gm prawns 250gm fillet of fish - fish should be firm when cooked 1/2 cup Parsley 4 cloves garlic 1 tbsp thyme 1 tsp smoked paprika 50ml olive oil 1 small onion - finely chopped 1/2 cup chopped scallions 1 red capsicum - sliced 2 large tomatoes - cubed 2 cups bomba rice 1 lemon 1lt fish stock - chicken if you cannot find or cannot make Steps 1. Wash and dry proteins. Sprinkle salt on fish fillets to extract excess water. Leave 10 mins and pat dry 2. Heat stock to boiling and let simmer 3. Add parsley, garlic, thyme and a pinch of salt into a mortar and pestle and mash to a paste. Add dash of olive oil if you need to form a fine paste 3. Fry fish to colour. Do not fully cook through. 30 seconds each side will do and set aside 4. Add olive oil, paprika, onions, scallions, capsicum and tomatoes to the pan. Fry till soft and pulpy (should take 2-3 minutes). Add rice and fry for 1 minute. Add liquid so that covers rice by 1/2 cm. Bring to rolling boil and then bring down heat to a simmer. Simmer for 5 minutes and stir every minute to ensure the rice does not stick. 5. Add paste and stir in evenly. At this point the rice still should look soupy but the liquid should have reduced by half. If the rice is dry, add some additional liquid to cover the rice. Add fish only. Let cook for 10 minutes. Do not stir from this point on. 6. Add rest of seafood. Push in the clams, mussels and prawns into the rice. make sure edge of mussels and clams are pointing up. Add additional stock if rice is not covered. Cook a further 10-15 minutes or till the rice is done. 7. Take off heat once the rice is done. Test rice, it should be soft but provide a little bite. Cover in foil for 10 minutes and then serve with wedges of lemon and fresh chopped parsley. Note: If you want to add saffron to the liquid please do so. I left out saffron as its not to everyone's taste
  16. That looks like a Wirra Cod or old boot. If you want to eat it you will need to do either two things Scrape the skin of its slime before you gut and fillet. If you dont the slime will contaminate the skin and make it taste like old boot Or Kill it and spike the brain, put it in an ice slurry. DO NOT PUT ANY OTHER FISH IN THE SLURRY. Then take it home and poor boiling oil or water on the skin before gutting and steaming or frying whole.
  17. Hi Raiders, Struggling to find string weed down south of sydney near the port hacking / georges river without buying it from Macs bait shop when he has it. Considering growing it again, last time I tried it the weed died after a while as it gets way to much sun in my backyard. I'll have to put some shade on it.. Any raiders got weed that they could share for me to start my little weed growing box again?
  18. Yep baby grouper. Female = brown and apparently turns blue when the blue in the territory hands up its hat or gets caught lol
  19. Kings are not fussy regarding live bait. As long as your pin the mullet right they will take it. For really big kings though, Australian Salmon is the go mate...
  20. Mullet work, I had one out whilst plastic fishing and a king fish took it hard.
  21. i do what @campr does in 4m+ water from both land and boat
  22. I've taken so many teens and there dads fishing and camping and its definitely bought them closer... Most kids don't get these experiences because their dads didn't have the time, money or knowledge. Mostly knowledge, dads growing up these days didn't get a chance because of the same thing. Teens and even young adults are most amazed when I teach them the basics of tying knots and lighting fires. Like how to properly structure camp fire and how to get it to burn hot and smoke free....
