    Berley!

Go to fish monger and buy them for cheap.. i think it's 5 dollars a kilo or something
  2. Size 0 or 00 sinker to long shank hook or Size 0 or 00 sinker to red tube to long shank hook
  3. Yeah I get more hook ups because the bait stays on longer mate. I also salt my squid baits as well. It stays on the hook way longer and the hook rate is the same to me
  4. Salting works well. Pre-salted pilchards that I have used are not as good as salting them yourself. They put in the minimal amount of sale and then freeze it. The pilchards don't have enough time to really get leathery before they are frozen. I would buy a box block and do it yourself.
  5. Nice work mate, its a hard man to push a hook through again! Did you use ice to numb or just went straight rambo?
  6. awesome grow your own hey?? sounds like a plan... I have an empty tank right now might load it up and see what happens
  7. Does anyone know any good canals in the Western Sydney area that should hold weed? I've been going to Powell's creek but the traffic in and our due to DFO is killing me... need another spot that's not to hard to get in and park lol
  8. Thanks s off so much @mrsswordfisherman
  9. This is a pretty old post, but does anyone know where this location is?
  10. Going to try it out... I'll let you know how it goes
  11. That rig looks pretty simple. Cork --> sinker --> hook. I normally don't go with a hook for drummer but i guess ill give it a go... wont lose any hooks
  12. I've followed a couple of videos on you-tube to make poppers our of old cork from wines and champagne bottles. They all worked well but for the time and effort put in, i ended up googling and buying juro surf poppers which are much more durable and are well designed. I eventually refreshed the popper with new feathers when they wore out. I've fished poppers without bait with similar success but I find that a half pilchard works incredibly well, it just causes the feathers to die quicker. Lately I've been using strips of squid with some success. Also I don't use these poppers from the surf I use them from the rocks on my second rod in a holder whilst I spin for fish...
  13. So decided to have a flick after a birthday dinner with mates. Picked up some nippers to see if the Luderick or Bream will bite under the Balmoral wharf. Was pretty busy when I got there and two mates where already having a fish waiting for their delivery of nippers. Apparently weed and bread dough wouldn't entice... Was a very slow night, we had some Koreans whom were fishing for yakkies, they pulled in about 20ish for the night. Wasn't anything exciting. Another fisho got busted off with something big, he went home with a few Trevs fishing under a float, dont know what bait though as he was to far from us... First cast i landed the massive whiting as you can see below, after that got some yanks but no proper bites. Mate pulled in another whiting as we started to wind things down. He took the nippers home and left me with a couple too play with. Last nipper I got a hit with another whiting but it dropped off as I was reeling it in. l
  14. Look at Fin Nor Lethal or Offshore for a quality yet affordable reel... Pair this with a Penn Prevail or a Daiwa sweepfire and you got a setup for under $200 that will handle kingies
  15. Chowder Head is great fishing. You can actually catch a huge range of fish from there. I've seen kingfish and mac tuna from there. Basically anything from the wharf can be caught here. You'll need to burley up to attract the fish... and it gets really busy sometimes... The ISO fishing guys use this ledge alot
  16. Tried frozen peas the other day and it worked ok. I think canned peas would be better as the frozen ones didn't last on the hook very long. Would come off very quickly I use weed fly hooks most of the time when I cannot find blackfish. Hit rate is definitely lower for me...
  17. Once sharks turn up, I've just moved spots. I've fished spots consecutivily without an issue though
  18. Bread is also good if you're just after bread and butter species...
  19. Go to the asian grocer and get cheap cured / dried squid. Its good as emergency bait. You can make your own with salt if you want....
  20. The teeth of the drive hear has a coating. You might be able to remove it. Otherwise you'll need a new one and that can be supplied by Shimano directly.
  21. Monavale Pool and the surrounds has weed right now mate. Its a pretty reliable spot if you're in the area. You can fish off the rocks surrounding the pool as well
  22. Fantastic place for squid. I've caught them during midday from there
  23. Was this just up from the cafe?
  24. I use prawn pellets, fish / tuna oil, bread and sand. When heads and frames get minced with the burley they also get frozen as well unless using fresh. So the blood is definitely frozen into the mix. That's most likely the reason?
  25. I reckon that's a great idea. But instead, have it a park or reserve so we can all wet a line ahahaha
