Great report @Isaac Ct, I love circle hooks (the go to for my fav’s the Kingies), but I know lots of fisho’s not so keen on them, (but the key is to let the fish take the bait and run before you put pressure on the fish, and most fishos like to “strike” the fish. thats a really nice Flatties, well done.

I haven’t been out for quite a few weeks due to the run of sloppy seas and crook weather (added to Reno’s on the house) but buddy Steve asked if I could help put his Grandson onto some Kingies. I never need an excuse to chase Seriola Llandi, so we headed out early to my favourite haunt Sydney Harbour, where it is a rare day to not catch kingfish (with the right bait, location and gear). Caleb bought his 4kg bream / flathead outfit with 4lb braid and leader with the aim to catch a Kingie on “light setup”. When I told him it might be suitable for the bait needed to catch the Kingies, he said “nah, I want to get a Kingie on light gear”. I told him I’d provide a “light setup” and handed him a Terez 20-40lb rod paired to a Saragossa 8000 with 65lb braid and 60lb fluro leader. Caleb did use his rod for the Yakkas, which we live baited for the Kings an hour later. When he hooked up on his first Kingie (and it nearly pulled his arms off), he understood why his idea of light might suit bream and Flatties, but seriously undergunned for Kingies. We had a great day on Kingies inside North Head (notice Sydney in the background) and bagged a few snapper, which came up in the berley stream also. Caleb is now keen to get a meter plus Kingie (aren’t we all)

Hey @faker, some excellent input from @wazatherfisherman. As young 18yr old, I used to regularly fish “The Ovens” and caught some amazing fish there. Now I’m 70, I wouldn’t even consider that climb (or the walk around at low tide - from memory you can’t get back at anything other than low tide). The last time I went there (in 1975), an Italian fellow, my annd my wife and I were last ones there. He tried very kindly, to tell me (in Italian), he was going “up -up” with hand gestures and I waved and said “good bye”, he tried several times to communicate he was going, as we watched him climb up the rope and then the only rope disappear up after he had gone. 😧 The climb up was horrendous and an amazing (positive) stroke of providence we are still married (48 years now). Never been back and only fish out of a boat now, having been washed over rock fishing - PLEASEE BE CAREFUL ON THE ROCKS, brother Raider.

Well done Neil, a great way to spend time with the fam’. Young bloke will have lots to remember (outfishing granddad). Pity day 2 wasn’t as successful, good thing about dim sims is if you don’t catch fish, at least you can eat them, although bardi grubs taste better - had them several times when the mob get together, but prefer roasted to raw). love your pics mate 👏👏.

Brilliant stuff Dave, having been the recipient of your guiding skills and hospitality in the past, I m sure you and Amy did much as Oz ambassadors to cement relationships with your guiding skills. What an experience - catching target species and seeing wildlife that most Australians wouldn’t have experienced. A great read (as always)

A thorough and interesting report @linewetter. It’s a challenge when you’re getting hits (or catching fish) and in a hurry to tie up a new rig. A very xperienced and successful dog handler told me when I started training a new pup “Bob the fastest way to train a dog, is slowly”. Like @Yowiesays “haste makes waste”. I also know what you mean about mullet - good thing is, they herald in the jewfish season (one of their favourite target species)..

Bonito are good fun and a lot about at the moment - well done on getting it in.

Great report Chris and a good feed. I was out at the FADs last week chasing Dollie’s and lost leaders and sinkers from the swivel down to rotten green toads, they were everywhere, but I was able to move away and eventually found a patch where they were absent. There has been some really crook weather lately and getting out has been quite a challenge - great you were able to get amongst them.

Top effort Zoran and Wazza, nothing eats better than a blue eye. A great report with fantastic pics. Well done boys.

Well done @Fobbie, great to read your report and see your pic. Bream are great fighters and can be so cunning and hard to catch in Sydney water ways at times. That’s a healthy fish - thank for sharing.

What a great report of teamsmanship that paid dividends (usually does). Getting a longtail on any gear is great work, but on 20lb, that’s something to store in the memory banks - well done.

Nice work @Crabstar, very healthy snapper and the 40+ a perfect eating size, (not so keen on the Morwong though, but fun to catch). Isn’t it good when you have a reliable motor. My Mercury 90CT has now 1325 hours and never given me any grief or needed any repairs (🙏🙏)

Good one Dave, thanks for the report, Lake Conjola is a beautiful spot. Now I’m a caravan owner, I have still to workout the rod / Tackle / cleaning set up (and the K9 has to come)

I’ve been trying to get out on the Dollie’s for quite a few weeks, before the temperature drops and they go deep offshore for winter. Headed out with my buddy Peter, hitting the bait grounds and scored heaps of Yakkas in double quick time. We trolled a Rapala CD 11 and caught some Nice sized Bonito off North Head / “Tumble down”. I put unweighted Yakkas out and hit paydirt off the FADs. Also got some good snapper and Mowies.

Took the K9 down to Colo for a quick flick for Bass for ann hour between 8.30 and 9.30. All on diver hard bodies and gold vibes. Caught 5(released of course), so things staring to slow up now, but water temp was still 23 on the run in.

A great mixed bag Chris, a real fisherman’s basket for next few days. 👏👏

A great day out Neil - some healthy nice sized fish mate - well done. (Dolphin fish and Trag are around if you feel like a (long) drive.

Disappointing day Chris (but better than mowing the lawns), but at least you were out getting some vitamin sea.
