  1. Sorry to hear of your mishap, I’m a bit of a jig addict my self & if it was me I’d be telling work of some family crisis that just popped up & try & get down there today before high tide with some snorkeling gear & scouring the foreshore, I like Franks idea 👍 as well. I have some doubles of hayabusa & Yamashita lots still in packets or unused, I’m willing to part with for under $10 a piece, if interested PM me & I’ll post some photos, I think I might have 1 or 2 red hayabusa in my collection as well
  2. Great session & top photos, made even better by the fact that Deano managed to upgrade his PB 😎. While you guys were spot locked did you end up using burley to get them in the mood or did you hold up on bait or structure, cheers
  3. Good report & congrats on the PB nice dolly, & hope March is even better
  4. That’s a fat pig & great report, got to love Xmas burley👍
  5. Another trick shown to me by an egi guru up my way is to grab your line near the tip of the rod apply a light bit of tension & with your other hand flick the line like releasing an arrow from a bow, do this several times & retrieve quickly once jig lets go
  6. Try closer to the mouth of the bay on the last few hours of the rising tide for the green eyes, the arrows can handle dirtier water if you find the bait you might be able to pick up a few
  7. Thanks guys after the last good one reefing me in no time flat through tightening the drag I played this one without touching the drag & lowering the rod every time it went for a run seemed to stay higher in the water column & then while scampering along the rocks taking the same approach on the lunges (the soft approach) seemed to appease the kingy & keep it calm except when feeling the line rubbing on the rocks below the water line I’d give it some grief until it was clear of the wall again
  8. Good report & photos, bummer about the hole in the net still a good bag all the same, the rod looks like it’s got a great action with still some power left in the bottom end 👍
  9. Great photos & report, good luck on your home turf, wow with 30 between you sounds like you’re in with a good chance of placing well
  10. Thanks guys, the water still had a bit of a brown tinge to it where I picked up the tailor probably coming from the beach, out the front it still had a bit of a green tinge to it & starting to clear up with a couple of bluish pockets, there’s still an occasional bit of salad around. @Central Coast Fisherman Yes spot on Phil I put the info out there to let people know the good water has arrived, hopefully the fish hang around for awhile
  11. Decided to fish for some tailor at first light this morning with a metal, second cast & got a just legal tailor which was returned to grow a bit bigger, there was a fair bit of bait around which seemed promising but strangely disappeared soon after managed to pick up 2 more around the 40+cm mark & dropped 3 larger models which spat the hooks due to the surge & current which is probably why the bait disappeared . Towards the end of the 2hr session bait was being harassed well out of casting range first up it looked like bonnies harassing them & soon after frigates followed by 2 packs of 6 to 8 long tails (northern bluefin) right up there clacker. After that bit of excitement decided to head back to the car & put the tailor on ice & grabbed the second coffee for the morning. Went around to the main ledge & chatted to a couple of local fishos I new who had caught a few bonnies & saw a 7kg Cobia someone else scored, decided to head back to a quieter spot & started casting a pink hardbody & managed to pick up a few bonnies & then got a good hit & run, fought this one on a lighter drag & slowly got it back to the ledge (after being smoked last week & reefed by the last one on a heavy drag) managed to stay on top of the fish which proceeded to take me on a tense 30m walk across the rocks & once subdued waited for a good wave & managed to lift a 75 cm kingy on 20lb mainline & 30lb leaderwhile I was fighting mine the guy next to me hooks up a good 31/2kg salmon on a float & pilly rig & next cast gets another at 83cm & probably around 5kg+ Really interesting day off the stones with a very varied mixed bag of fish caught & sighted. One guy even had a small Bonnie out under a balloon hoping for a long tail
  12. I’ve caught a few years ago mainly at night off the rocks, called them bearded ling or beardies, if we felt like a feed & had a fire going we’d dispatch it & throw it on the coals then peel back skin & remove gut (shriveled & size of 10c piece) they had a succulent & delicate flavour
  13. Thanks @anthman re applying thin layer. I hear you @PaddyT if it ain’t broke don’t fix it (only cosmetic) the old halco lazer pro in Qantas colour has some good battle scares great lure for pelagics, the micro mullet one of the best for flatties & of course the old cordell pencil popper became a bit of a legend just as they were hard to come by here in Oz. @wazatherfisherman I’m glad you tagged in on this thread because of your knowledge base, thanks for the in depth info in hindsight I’m glad I never purchased the product because I wouldn’t have been able to get a balanced finish Thanks again Waza & Co
  14. Caught some XL whiting & bream at the creek at the back of crescent head years ago while camping there in the 80’s Just be aware people around Sydney there is a lot of intertidal sanctuary zones where 🦀 crabs can’t be gathered or used, could become an expensive fishing session
  15. The Avoca ledge, hey anthman I see you reside on the northern beach’s & some, I’d say the ledges & rocks in your area should be fishing similar as water conditions & temp should be the same
  16. Lures always look great out of the packet when new & once you start using them hooks, fish & the enviroment (rocks etc) tend to degrade the finish. I know chips, scratch’s & teeth marks are inevitable. On the quality priced ones it can take a bit longer than some of the cheapies. I’m curious to hear as to what others have done or tried to combat this? A fellow fisho suggested using a 2 part rod epoxy finish which I believe is a good product & he has used it with success to add life to a lures finish Any thoughts or ideas that anyone has would be appreciated
  17. A good report & a great day out with plenty of fish there @Pickles sounds like the fish have really started to fire up since the last heavy deluge. On Monday a guy managed to catch 12 rats, 7 x bonito & a 56cm tailor all on pillys & float someone else managed a 60cm tailor & a couple of mid 30 models on the same set up
  18. That’s a great report & a good flattie there @kingie chaser I’d call that one 61 cm, would that be your PB by any chance & good on you for releasing it 😎
  19. I’m surprised that the boat ramp is part of the high risk area & since it’s used for Boat launching, yes it can get a surge happening particularly in N to Ne swell but then again it is a man made structure & can be slippery & should be periodically gurneyed by council or the powers that be, & Yet as we speak the powers that be are removing massive kelp build up on the haven beach but the ramp had a pile of kelp that has been slowly dispersing by wave action & individuals trying to launch & retrieve for fear of not making it out yet nothing has been done & there is still a fair bit of kelp on the ramp (a quick gurney would make it safer). Sorry I digressed I also agree with the statement of the haven rocks which can cop swell over them being “an Experienced person” But there are people out there that don’t have that experience or unfortunately common sense & don’t understand the inherent dangers & put fish ahead of there own lives, the old saying the minority ruin it for the majority & that’s one of the major reasons this law has been introduced
  20. I think what @PaddyT was eluding to & @kingie chaser made mention of in his post was they weren’t fishos, technically if you’re fishing you must wear a life jacket & Yet if I was standing right next to you & not fishing or helping you I wouldn’t need to wear a jacket & I might be bare feet or even worse wearing thongs
  21. Sounds good Adrian, hopefully they won’t need stretching the next time we get out, we’ll have to try & get out soon @kingie chaser those stars just need to line up again They were the first 2 I’ve caught up here, I didn’t measure them but guessing the larger rat was around 62 cm
  22. Don’t apologise Jeff family should always come first congratulations to you and the kids👍 Good luck tomorrow, and what great way to finish up the weekend
  23. @kingbonito Have you moved from the C coast. I agree with you totally especially if the wind gets up, I stayed away from the spin ledge for that reason and there were really big sets coming in every half hour, once the wind picked up & pilchard brigade moved in on the honeycombs, I Ended up cutting the lure off once & then untangling it out of someone’s slack line & decided calling it quits. On a side note what people do to get a fish even at low tide, the swell was from the ESE & when the big sets rolled in around the spin ledge they would all scamper across the ledge like rats up a drain pipe, one bloke got caught up in the wash & got bowled over when he surfaced he’s wet weather pants & undies were around his ankles, not a pretty site. What also blew me away was the amount of people wearing thongs no wonder life jackets are becoming compulsory on our rock ledges
  24. Welcome to our world, I’m sure you’ll love your new ride as much as if not more than the rib in no time I agree with that comment, especially in the conditions they test them in but if they don’t give them good reviews you know they are inside boats or donkeys Hope to hear you get her sorted out soon looking forward to your new fishy ventures
  25. Thanks raiders it was a fun session & my first kingys off the stones, have caught them on plastics & bait before but never on hardbodies @Ryder the other half & my daughter don’t have that colour & I don’t fancy buying hot pink, not my colour 😁 @Pickles agree with you totally but at this particular ledge I’m always carrrying someone’s rubbish out with me yet there are at least 2 bins by the time you get to the car park less than 10 minutes away & it’s an easy walk out. How hard is it to carry out your empty rubbish @scottyboy with this particular lure I agree with you but some of the cheaper quality one’s look like crap after 2 fish, I bought some erskine two part epoxy for the cheaper lures on advice from another lure fisho @kingbonito can get quite busy on the weekends with newbies & fishos from Sydney.
