  1. I always loved & was drawn to the water as a Rugrat but didn’t get to fish as we lived inland in my birth country of South Africa. My first fishing experience which got me hooked was at aged 11 when we arrived in Sydney there was a wharf near school, I used to watch an old Italian man catching yakkas, one day he gave me a hand line to use & before long mum was suspicious as to why I wanted to leave for school before 7:30, before long I was catching handfuls of yakkas & the odd fantail, mince meat was his bait of choice, 1 1/2 years later we moved & I had a say in the area we settled in because it had a wharf nearby😃, at age 13 I was fishing under fig tree bridge one hot humid Saturday with my trusty JW black queen outfit using cooked king prawns which I pinched out of the fridge, the bite was quite slow & being peckish started eating the bait but saved one for the hook, tossed it out dead on high tide into the muddy water no more than a minute had passed when my rod buckled over & line was screaming off, saw the back of my spool a couple of times in the ensuing battle which seemed to last forever with a lot of head shakes , I managed to get the fish to the sandstone wall twice with huge tail swirls at my feet, nearly beat it went for one last run under the bridge & being inexperienced instead of standing my ground I moved & tried to poke my rod tip around the concrete pylon which was to short & parted ways, I was gutted & on a high at the same time, for weeks after I was dreaming of me riding my bike home with a big jewfish tied to my old Malvern star, my friends & family got sick of my fishing stories because I became obsessed with fishing & that was all I could talk about, that was Christmas 1973
  2. Great report, photos & feed, my PB snapper (also 65cm) was hooked in 60m off whale beach being lowered in bait runner mode with similar paternoster to yours on pillie
  3. That’s a great tasty bag for the hacking as always good one, that kingie would have been an interesting fight
  4. Great report & photos, I wish one of my fishing buddies was a chef (jealous), I’m drooling looks mouth watering 😋 those giant cuttlefish are definitely hard to lift & make a hell of a mess, what jig were you using out of curiosity 👍
  5. Good to see your back catching again, I’ve heard Japans tackle stores are amazing, how do they compare in price, I wouldn’t be surprised if the jig wall is like looking at a lollie shop
  6. They usually move out to the offshore reefs, but while the water is still ok no reason that they won’t hang around for awhile besides you might score a Jew, salmon or good tailor as by catch
  7. Clifton garden & balmoral baths there’s a wharf on the left hand side, squid, yakkas & kings can all be caught there & forty baskets tough going if you get a good king though (moored boats)
  8. Thanks for that I’m assuming the S factor was part of the equation , did you happen to use a worm hook or jig head & what weight, cheers
  9. Good one & nice report, it’s always good to have the young ones onboard enjoying the day & seeing what the ocean has to offer, looks like a couple of tired happy little fishos there
  10. I think I’ve seen a couple available from whit something or BLA Bla that have housings that hold the coiled hose & nozzle that could probably be placed in the gunnel shelf at the transom end or you could try googling deck wash hoses
  11. Nice report & catch, went out yesterday & caught same sized ones, we went to the fad a bit further out in similar conditions to you, what was the plastic & jig that worked if you don’t mind me asking?
  12. Good report & well done, headed out on a mates boat & my bro for dollies, 500m from ramp and voltage meter & sounder’s start going off, next thing smokes coming out from dash, cooked wires from faulty wc switch & relay, big heads up & thanks to the second boat that went past & towed us back, 40mins later wires isolated & off to bait grounds, bumped into @grantos, plenty of yakkas but no joy for any one they were shutdown (sunup & kingys), off to the waverider, 13 boats there we were in a Haines 585SF with outriggers, hung around for 5mins watched a couple of small ones caught & decided to head to the fad a bit further out, like you no joy on lures and plastics but managed 3 keepers on pilly cubes & threw quite a few under sized back, while there a stabicraft pulls up & starts jigging with a 150 to 200g jig & caught a swordfish of about 6kg, first time seen that, was a great calm day on the water, good on you for being the first boat there & bagging 11 keepers
  13. Good on you for taking the young fella out fishing and giving him that experience , & what a smile, I think you’ve got a new Fishing buddy
  14. Great to hear you’ve got your mojo back 😎
  15. Good report, fish & great time of the year to be on the water, was your trace chewed through or clean bitten off, did the waterways get busier as the day progressed or had the holiday makers already left?
  16. Well done and a good write up, photos and casting platform, that’s a great blue nose in that catch & a nice part of the world you live in. What type of boat do you have?
  17. ). I went out on Monday & got 6 green eyes, some bugger pinched 1 while I was fishing who didn’t have any luck, there were 4 of us squidding & 2 catching while I was cleaning mine the other guy lost count after 7 and they were still on when I left, you shouldn’t have gone overseas 😀, hopefully you get your mojo back soon
  18. Any of the wharfs around Balmain, Drummoyne, etc for squid & yakkas, the red marker just west of harbour bridge at the island, off Greenwich sailing club, around cockatoo island, or any of the deeper headlands and eddies in that part of the system
  19. Ouch!! I gave up soccer at 45 because of the recovery time from sprains & knocks from the young blokes, I wish you luck with a pain free recovery, damn 6 months is along time, but as they say where there’s a will there’s a way, hopefully you’ll have a rod in hand soon
  20. Years ago around this time of the year I used to fish garie beach on the southern end rock platform facing the next beach south and catch a lot of good tailor in the wash near the bommie spinning with metals, nice report & dinner
  21. Good on you for changing things up and persisting and ending up with a good feed, nice looking bbq crabs “yum”
  22. Sounds good, if I can get a leave pass from the 1IC I’ll definitely be on board
  23. Upper parramatta river behind the new footy stadium used to see course fishermen get big ones 10 kg+, there also in the lake (pond) in centennial park at Homebush
  24. That’s a great feed there, it was a pearler of a day to be out on the water, terrific catch & report, nothing better than when the dollies play ball & your done and dusted in 2 hours
