Thanks boys for the response. I am fishing a few km off north head Sydney Harbour.. I might considering using an 8oz next time I head out. I'm definitely not using these weights for jigging, just whilst bottom fishing.

Hi guys I am wondering if going over cast weight specifications will affect a rod while bottom bouncing? I have a rod that is rated for 60 -120g cast weight and I am wondering if it were possible to use 12oz sinkers (approx 350g) without damaging the rod while bottom fishing. I ask this as I bought the rod for dual purpose as a bottom bouncing/ jigging rod. Thanks

Hi guys I am looking to get my boat back in the water soon permitted I get my outboard up and running. Currently have a seafarer VC with a seized 85hp outboard . Anyway, once I get back in the water I wanted start trying to learn how to jig. I usually take my boat out in botany bay as I live in the blakehurst area at the tom uglys bridge boat ramp. Just wondering if botany bay is any worth jigging and if there's any areas that might be better than others. I just bought a saltist hyper X 6ft 4 rod with a Saragossa 8000 reel. I would like to know some of the better locations, types of lures, and fish species I might come across according to seasons. Any help would be much appreciated, thanks in advance. Ian

Hi guys thanks for the advice . I ended up picking up a Daiwa saltist hyper 6ft 4in for $215 from a shop after price matching from a competitors website (rrp $280). Feels nice and balanced when paired up with the Saragossa 8000. Can't wait to have a crack with it on the boat this weekend .

Hi guys, i occasionally fish around Sydney in 50 to 100m of water just outside the heads. I am looking for a rod to pair with my Saragossa 8000sw (50lb braid) reel and saltist 6500(50lb mono) I always bottom fish and the main intention of the rod will be for that, but I am also interested in jigging, are there any recommendations you guys can give that will marry up to my reels for this style of fishing.
