  1. Dstyle Reserve, first and often only thing I throw, always seems to produce fish.
  2. Yeah these rain events are really killing things as far as fishing is concerned, especially after we've all been locked away for two years. I think we have one more La Ninia event in Nov and we should be in the clear, but who knows...
  3. Managed to get out and target my beloved bass on Saturday thanks to a very welcome break in the weather. Not sure if it’s just that it’s been so long between trips or these fish were extra feisty after spawning but both fish fought extremely hard and jumped clear of the water like little barra. God it’s good to be back on the water doing what I love again. Bith fish were taken on top water, only around the 30cm mark but big enough to have some fun on the light gear as always.
  4. I cannot wait to get out and hit the bass water again, although I’m a little scared to see what’s happened to my local spots with the floods. The fishing will either be amazing, or tough going, but one thing is for sure it’ll be very different!
  5. Look up Marling Baits on YouTube. Some of his lure videos involve making molds for soft plastics which he pours himself. Some really cool lure making videos on his channel too.
  6. I didn’t think it was just me. Unfortunately in my case these little incentives and loyalty offers where what got me in store. I find that their stock is rarely updated, and I basically know their items by heart, so don’t find myself killing half an hour browsing there like I would my local tackle stores. I have also noticed their prices going up, and their “reduced” or “members only” price in lures is now what the pre-discounted price was before. So they’re no longer willing to take a hit on their profit margin.
  7. Anyone else no longer receiving birthday vouchers or the occasional random loyalty voucher from a certain big chain tackle store that shall not be named? I made a complaint a couple of years back after being overcharged for some expensive sunglasses that were supposed to be at sale price, and I wonder if I’ve been back listed? I also rarely shop there without some kind of voucher as an incentive so wonder if they’ve picked up on my scent. Anyone else had similar experience?
  8. 4 months between fishing trips, that’s gotta be a record? 🤚
  9. Couldn’t recommend a cod highly enough, so interesting to watch and aggressive when feeding. It’s luck of the draw with natives I find. Some aquariums have natives often and you just need to check in with them regularly, they may be able to order something in for you. I often changed the fish I had when I stumbled across something new at an aquarium, then did a trade. Another alternative is finding somewhere that farms fingerlings for stocking into farm dams etc. not sure they’d sell you a single fish but worth asking, they may even just give you one considering they sell them 1,000 at a time.
  10. I’ve had bass, Murray cod, yellow belly, sooty grunter, tarpon and others. All relatively easy to keep and very hardy. Id recommend a Murray cod out of the lot, far more entertaining when feeding. Put a piece of PVC pipe in with it to hide in, drop in live or dead food and watch it scoot out from the pipe and grab the food in the blink of an eye. Surprisingly Bass are more skittish in a tank.
  11. I’ve never used cheap braids, always big brands and the best I can afford. The thing with braid is that it can be an absolute nightmare if it’s poor quality, and even some of the big brands may have characteristics that don’t suit your style of fishing. Too stiff, not stiff enough, too waxy, too rough, low abrasion resistance, prone to wind knots, not knot friendly the list goes on. Not sure if that helps, but if you can find a cheap braid you can actually touch before buying that will at least give you some idea of what you’re getting. Either way it’s still a bit of a gamble
  12. I might just take you up on that Frank! And of course happy to pay you for your time and materials. I really just want to give it to someone who can be trusted and get it as close as possible to how it was before, whether thats a case of removing the guide, re binding and epoxying, or just patching up.
  13. I’ve been told it’ll look worse if I just attempt to backfill it with epoxy.
  14. The chip has exposed the binding, fishing with it will expose it to water which will inevitably get in under the epoxy. Probably won’t cause an issue given I only use it in fresh water but figure I can get it done during closed bass season.
  15. Yeah it’s nothing too fancy, just black binding with a few silver threads top and bottom. There’s the chipped epoxy…
  16. Thought that might be the case. Ah well I just need to hope they can match the binding for me. Thanks!
  17. I need to get a repair done on a very special high end custom rod. The epoxy on one guide has chipped and come away, I was wondering if I can have the epoxy removed and have it re-epoxied without having to have it rewrapped?
  18. Went for a drive to check out lane cove yesterday afternoon, was chocolate brown and a few of the banks and trees had collapsed and fallen into the river. After last night’s rain I can’t see it getting much better for a while.
  19. Saw this today, I’m at a loss as to why EPA/Sydney water/local councils and government can’t go down and find the problem themselves and solve it. It’s right in front of their faces, Aaron has shown it in his video. This has to be a cover up. You get fined for throwing rubbish out the window of your car, flicking cigarette butts, leaving rubbish on public transport. Why is this allowed to keep happening!?
  20. I’ve steered clear of the Nepean with all this rain, doesn’t look too bad considering how much water is around. I was waiting for the flood reports to come out but the river seems to be handling it better than last years floods. Well done on getting a few. I find with these wet events the fishing either shuts right down, or the river really fires. You catch more fish on the water than you do sitting at home, that’s for sure.
  21. Plenty to think about here. I’ve given up on buying more pliers, only got a new pair a couple of years back and they are perfect for removing hooks from fish but the side cutters on them are no good for light braid. I might just stick with the braid scissors, I have a few pairs and they are cheap enough
  22. I’ve always used “braid scissors” for cutting my braid - usually ultra thin diameter 6-10lb. The thing when cutting braid is you need to pull it tight when cutting, so I was wondering how those nail clipper type cutters work on braided line? Are they just a pain and only useful for mono/fluro? These are the type I’m talking about:
  23. See a heap of Diamond pythons fishing for Bass. This is one from about a month ago, beautiful things…
  24. Well, it looks like we managed to at least get some media attention... https://www.news.com.au/technology/environment/thousands-of-dead-fish-wash-up-on-sydneys-parramatta-river/news-story/4f4257cfd93ba20d9e1ea131c2100fb8
