  1. Yeah I agree with you there, he does like to carry on, and if you weren’t familiar with his videos you’d think he just likes the sound of his own voice. I think he does care, just not very cluey on how to make change. I’ve since reported this to Channel 7 news, we’ll see how interested they are and if this is enough of a ratings grab for them to consider running it.
  2. That big EP was what really did it for me. Can only imagine how old that fish was and how many more she would have produced. Anyway, as per my comment on the video, I feel like this is the sort of thing they should be showing on the news, not some story about “shocked amature fisherman reel in bulk shark from Sydney harbour! Killers swimming on your doorstep!”
  3. Arron formerly of Windsor Bait and Tackle put this on YouTube yesterday. Surprised it hasn’t been shared here yet, so just doing my part to spread the word so hopefully something is done about this kind of thing.
  4. Very cool footage, could watch that stuff all day. Although I did feel a little seasick at times 😆
  5. Agree with the comments here regarding quality of bearings, and overall smoothness of the reel. As for the retrieve ratio, higher isn’t always better. I generally like a lower gear ratio for the lure fishing I do as it compliments my slower twitching retrieves. A faster gear ratio would generally be suited to higher speed spinning, or people who prefer a faster retrieve. Don't read into it too much. If the reel feels good in the hand, performs the job you got it for and is a pleasure to use then you’ve made the right choice.
  6. This trip has been a long time coming. Between lockdowns and all this rain, this is the first time I’ve not started fishing from September. I headed out to a not so local but regular spot for myself yesterday morning. Was on the water by 5:30am, and it was chocolate brown and not looking promising at all. My regular creek was running clear into the main arm of the river, so I thought I’d give it a shot. After a few small fish it was looking promising. Managed a nice 35cm forker just after 6am before heading back out into the main river and getting countless small fish and a 30cm forker. Caught a heap more smaller fish before heading home sunburnt but very satisfied. All fish were caught on the surface, it’s the only way I fish for bass. I have issues. 😂
  7. Yep that’s it. I mostly fish for bass and I like to have one combo that will throw everything, from light 2.5” Zman frogz to larger divers and surface presentations. I’ve got the standard Aldebaran, and while it’s insanely light weight, I’m not overly impressed with the casting performance with really light lures. So I always wanted to give the BFS model a go. @Little_Flatty the pixy is still an unreal piece of kit to this day. They still fetch a decent amount of money second hand even though they are 15+ years old now! *Please no spin vs baitcaster arguments here!
  8. $15 rod sock is enough to protect the rod from bumps and even drops from height. The worry with graphite is when it hits a hard surface, rods are strong when they bend but it’s that sudden shock of hitting an equally hard surface that creates the damage. I wouldn’t worry too much about it unless you have taken a chip out of the exterior of the blank, just fish it till it breaks and deal with it then.
  9. My wife often calls me a tighta$$, it’s rare I’ll spend on myself. So I can relate to your thriftiness Neil. And yes Lttle_Flatty, I blame the lack of fishing on my retail therapy. I’ve talked it up too much now, it’s not outrageous, but as I said I don’t really need it.
  10. Yep, we’re all looking for the warm fuzzy feelings, especially these days with the way things have been over the past couple of years. I usually get those feelings as soon as I hit the water, but when I can’t do that, I look elsewhere. As for kids, mine is only 1yo, so buying fishing gear will be a thing of the past pretty soon!
  11. Yeah I just have a bit of a thing for nice gear. I grew up using cheap stuff, but as I’ve gotten older I’ve been fortunate enough to be to get some nice stuff. In saying that, I don’t catch anywhere near enough fish to warrant most of the gear I use. But I don’t drink, don’t smoke, don’t gamble, so it’s probably not a bad vice to have 😂
  12. Done. Couldn’t help myself. Will post pics when it arrives from Japan. 😍
  13. I haven’t read the entire thread, but this might be what you’re after… https://baitfinesseempire.com/product/handy-pak-ghost-series-insta-net/
  14. It’s sitting in my basket, I’m checking up on it on a daily basis at the moment. I have issues… 😂
  15. Due to lockdowns, another reasonably difficult year and now the crappy weather we’re experiencing, I’m looking to retail therapy. Work has been quite good and a recent pay rise has me considering buying myself another high end reel that I really don’t particularly need. If you’re anything like me you enjoy quality fishing gear almost as much as you enjoy the sport/hobby itself. I have 2 high end reels, 3 high end rods and obviously can only use one at a time with the others staying packed away in the cupboard. I need some help convincing myself I deserve to splurge a little 😊 I know there are members on here with a lot more money invested in gear than me, tell me what you have and how ridiculous your addiction is so I don’t feel so guilty!
  16. Was looking forward to bass season this season more than ever. All this water is going to make it tough for fish to get into the upper reaches after spawning. Waiting for the rain to stop, but even then we’ll need a week or two for the rivers to settle and clear again. Not looking good, might be better off learning to fly fish and prep for trout season the way things are going.
  17. The idea of going as light as you can get away with is to ensure the fish don’t see or sense the line, especially in a bait fishing scenario. Also, you lose bite sensitivity the heavier you go.
  18. I did well on the whiting up there off the beach, just using those freeze dried beach worms.
  19. Just received my Fishing World monthly newsletter, and thought this was a timely article… http://www.fishingworld.com.au/news/carp-orgies-herpes-and-the-smell-of-rotten-fish?utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=Newsletter - 24 Sep 2021&utm_content=Newsletter - 24 Sep 2021+CID_9940e124e9ce1ba6206b3c0d237a6a16&utm_source=Email marketing software&utm_term=Carp orgies herpes and the smell of rotten fish
  20. I actually think basic signage around waterways would go a long way. Showing what a carp looks like, how big they grow, the harm they do, the reasons it’s encouraged to remove them from the waterways and a “how to” dispose of them correctly. I also think carp should be used to help promote the sport, get people into fishing, and teach them how to fish responsibly from the get go. Carp are relatively easy to catch, they grow huge and they fight reasonably hard. We all know that early success in fishing is usually what gets people hooked. I don’t think we’ll ever fish them out, but as I said before, we have to make the best of the crappy situation we’ve gotten ourselves into by introducing these pests, and if we can help reduce numbers even in a small way then that should be considered a bonus.
  21. Nice one! I’m dying to get out and hit the bass as soon as the lockdown is lifted!
  22. I hate the idea of introducing another species to eradicate an already out of control introduced species. Sometimes you’ve gotta quit while you’re ahead and just accept that we have to live with the mistakes of the past. I can just see us ending up with freshwater fisheries full of carp and pike. No more freshwater natives. My personal opinion, not here to argue for or against.
  23. I never thought it was in NSW. Always thought VIC were the only state with the “no release” laws.
