    Shimano Zodius Rod

Thanks for the replies! I'll have to get in touch with my tackle store today... I didn't realise that we had such a delay with gear here in Aus. I thought they'd want to roll products out world wide. It's not like Australia is a small market in terms of fishing (relatively speaking).

Sorry, I meant can you buy the rod section? It's two piece but one piece is all blank/rod... Not handle. Handle is a separate piece. Is there a new Zodius coming?
  3. Hi all, I had a little accident this afternoon on the way home from the boat ramp - I had my Zodius 270UL tip out the passenger window of my ute and my wife called; instinctively I powered up the windows and heard a nice little crunch. The very tip severed clean off - and it also snapped at the second guide (so missing a tip and cracked at second guide). I take trying to repair it is futile? Even by Shimano? I was wondering if anyone knows if you can purchase just the blank, not the additional handle piece that comes with the rod? Trying to keep my $250 mistake to a minimum! Thanks!
  4. Thanks for all the great replies. I agree, you don't need to spend big money to get out and fish. But there is certainly a huge difference in terms of feel and performance between my Zodias and my cheaper end shimano rods. Whether that translates to more fish, overall I'd say no, with the odd exception. But the enjoyment of a really smooth reel and the crisp action of a great rod is worth the price, it just adds to the enjoyment of fishing. Even switching between the Ci4 and the FL reel I now feel a big difference in terms of smoothness and line retrieval. But as I say, I don't believe I'll catch more fish because of it. I'll have to give the Diawa a chance...
  5. Hi all, I'm looking for a second spin rod used out of a small tinny in estuarys. Biggest fish I target are flathead... Generally use metal lures on 6-8lb braid. Currently have a shimano Zodias UL270... Paired with stradic FL 2500 HG... I love the Zodias... But was wondering if I could get away with something shorter and in two piece? Would be keen to try something other than shimano, but would be happy to stay brand loyal. Any information/specific models would be appreciated... Thanks.
  6. The tuffy will be on a trailer... And the carry distance of the motor will only be from the boot backed to the boat for mounting. Otherwise, yep, on an outboard trolley stand.
  7. Hi all, My first post about what will be my first boat! I’ve narrowed the boat down to the Polycraft Tuffy - the new model in the more fishing oriented set-up than the Tuffy Tender. This will be its primary use - Fishing in and around Parramatta River and associated bays in Sydney (catch and release, of course!) The dilemma I have is which motor and what size. I am leaning toward the Yamaha F9.9; the way I have to store the boat means portability of the motor is a big factor. At 40kg and carry handles back and front, along with the ability to lay it down in the boot for transport, is ideal. Going up to the 15 adds an extra 10kg, around 50kg total, and from what I can gather no lifting handles. I’ll be mounting/unmounting the motor after each use, often on my own. A review on BNBFISHING has provided a lot of specs on running the Tuffy with the Yamaha 9.9 and the Yamaha 15. The top speed isn’t too different, but the 4000rpm mid range speed is about 4km/h slower in the 9.9 than 15. Without much experience in boating, not sure how to interpret this? Is top speed key, or cruising speed, both? The reviewer of the BNB article actually stated the 9.9 may be the more versatile power option. I’m not looking for face tearing speed, but where I plan to put the boat in will always be a bit of trip to where I intend to fish, and don’t want to invest and find the 9.9 isn’t the best tool for the job. I’m open to other brands; I note the Honda has a longer warranty and they talk up their alternator - this may or may not be important - but I’d like to run a fish finder in the future so Honda’s claims about battery charge etc may be pertinent. Any recommendations would be welcomed, as would any advice! cheers.
