  1. @mrsswordfisherman wow I love your set up, those are goals right there! Thank you so much will definitely check out some charters in those towns and will have a look at wikicamp as well. @noelmDefinitely, wish the trip could go on forever. Think the last thing I want to do is rush every spot and not get to enjoy it to its fullest. Safety always first, I always wear cleats and a PFD if I'm fishing on the rocks. @Rebel Exmouth is on the list! I've seen so many photos and videos of that place. @Billmack Thank you for recommendations, yep I will be taking some charters to try tick off all the different species on my list. Will add Ardrossan to the list!
  2. Hey guys, so my wife and I decided to tick off one of our bucket list items which is travel Australia in a van for the next 6 or so months. Last year during the covid lockdown we both lost our jobs but it actually turned out to be a blessing in disguise as we decided to go out buy a van and convert it into a campervan. So now that the borders are finally opened, the van is all ready to go we'll probably be leaving in a couple of weeks. We live in Sydney, the plan is to go south first, going along the coast of Victoria and then into South Australia. We've got all the peninsulas as well as Kangaroo Island pencilled in. We'll make our way back to Sydney around May (only coming back because of a wedding 😅) and then head to northern Queensland and Northern Territory in the winter. I've decided to take with me 4 setups (anymore I think the wife will be pretty mad) Setup 1 : Shimano Zodias 7ft 3-6kg, stradic 2500, spooled with PE1 braid Setup 2: Majorcraft Crostage 9ft6 PE 1-2.5, Sustain 5000 spooled with PE2 braid Setup 3: Daiwa Saltist BW 9ft6 7-15kg, Sustain 5000 spooled with PE2.5 braid Setup 4: Daiwa Spartan 8ft PE 5-8, Saltiga 10000 spooled with PE5 braid (only recently bought this just for this trip) I am by no means an expert fisherman but I have picked up a thing or 2 over the past 2 years of fishing. I have a few species of fish I wish to tick off my list which include 1. Tuna 2. Barramundi and 3. GT. I just wanted to ask you guys if you have any tips or recommendation of places to visit. I'm not asking for your secret spots or anything but just a general place to check out. I fish with both baits and lures. I generally fish off the rocks, estuaries, beaches and jetties.
  3. I've got a week holiday booked in Fingal Bay next month! What size jigs were you using? is it snaggy in the area where I think you're at?
  4. Thanks a lot guys! Appreciate it!
  5. sorry I know this is an old post, I'm headed up to south west rocks next week. My first time to SWR and I've read the fishing can be pretty amazing there. I'll be staying at the trial bay campground. Where would I be able to get hold of some nippers?
  6. Hey guys, A few of my mates and I are thinking of hiring a boat at Brooklyn this weekend and spending the day on the river fishing for really anything. I'll have 1 rod out for jewies in a rod holder and my other lighter rod in my hand for the smaller species. The last time we did this was this time last year and I managed to catch a legal jewie so hoping to make this an annual tradition. I was wondering if you guys could guide me in the right direction where I could catch some fresh baits like yakkas and squid. We'll be having a burley trail out - got some leftover pilchards from my last fishing trip in the freezer as well as a lot of leftover bread and stuff from Christmas
  7. Hey guys, I had a terrible outing yesterday, I was fishing at the piers with my stradic ci4 2500 in my hand and my heavier rod in a rod holder. I went to adjust my heavier rod and I wasn't thinking put my light rod down with the bale closed. It was within 5 seconds afterwards I see my rod fly into the water 😭 I'm pretty devastated because that reel had some sentimental value to me. Anyways lesson learnt the hard way and I need to move on. I've been wanting to get a medium rod set up for fishing on the piers for awhile now. I've been tossing between getting the new Stradic FL 5000 or the Sustain FI 5000 but I can't seem to make my mind. Just wanted to hear your thoughts or anything else you would recommend.
  8. @LandBasedKeith Thanks a lot mate, I think I will give it a shot in the next few weeks!
  9. Hey Keith, I've been reading your posts of your trips for the past couple months, it has definitely made me want to give blackfishing another go. I tried it many years ago with limited success. Would appreciate it if you could help me out with a few questions. How deep do you set your rig at? And I guess you would probably have to keep adjusting it depending on the tide? Do you connect your main line to a swivel and use a trace or is it better just to use a line to line connection? Is it also better to use a longer rod (10 or 12ft) or will a 7 ft rod suffice?
  10. Hey @motiondave Haha I would love to get back into gaming but the missus won’t be too happy about it. She already limits my fishing time to once a week which is probably not a bad thing. I played basically all of Blizzard’s games, countless hours on world of Warcraft and Starcraft. Played a bit of counter strike but was never good at it. Maybe when I have kids it would be a good excuse to get back into it (argument for spending quality Father Time 😂) I actually lived in parramatta till last year I moved to Liverpool area.
  11. Thanks Big Neil, Rebel, Mrsswordie. Definitely I find myself these days at work spending a lot of time on google maps looking for new spots to fish. I think working it out is also part of the fun. @mrsswordfisherman haha will do although I do want to put that part of my life behind me. It’s taken so much time out of my life already
  12. Hey guys, Long time fan of the forum but this is my first post. I thought I'd start with this since I really love fishing and would love to be more involved in this amazing community. My name is Simon or you can call me Nom (Alias that's stuck from the video gaming days) I'm 29 yrs old and from Sydney. I have loved fishing from the moment my dad took me for the first time as a kid. However, I only really got into it about a year ago after I had to get knee surgery from an ACL tear I got from sports. My 2nd knee surgery on top of all the fractured bones and rolled joints. I thought I am most likely going to be a cripple at the rate I'm going so why not switch to one of my other hobbies that is less taxing on the knees. I am a bit of an amateur fisherman but I am very keen to learn. I have picked up quite a bit in the last year of fishing (well at least I think). My PB is a 74cm jewfish I caught last year and I know it was from sheer luck because I have not been able to catch a jewie since. I usually fish for silver trevally and squid but I would love to catch a kingfish one day. I'm mainly a landbased fisherman but will jump on a boat when I can as long as its not in open ocean water. I tried deep sea fishing once which sent my head spinning for 2 days straight. I fish mainly on the piers/wharfs or wading in the shallow sand banks. I have tried surf and rock fishing with limited success but hopefully I can pick up some tips from you guys.
