  1. Hi lakelad my old 35 Johnson overheated after a service took it back to thomos at Gateshead was really hot when I lifted the leg up to winch it on the trailer no tilt on the old girl to old 😂 He ended up taking the thermostat out, Apparently there not really needed unless your in really cold water Lake Macquarie is not that cold Well worth a talk to he may help
  2. This the rod the Alvey 475a chose with no name on it anywhere but needs a new set of runners eventually
  3. This is the Jarvis walker mundoo I also have a jw Hawkesbury river that’s been in my family since day dot
  4. The side cast action had been removed on the reel I think ? so the father in law cast it on a free spin so to speak i remember he always took it every day luderick fishing ,he had his favourite rock he went to fish on ,catch a few fish and come home he was a bit of a bowerbird collecting fishing stuff left behind by disgruntled fishing people and thrown out ,so the shed had a few rod and reel combos that are not worth keeping I kept his ludrick combo ,wooden centre pin and the modified Alvey 35 reel and a new Jarvis walker rod still n the cover from the 1970 or 80,s This would look nice with a new Alvey egg beater (they look so cool) 😁 i will take a shot of the rods sometime today and post a photo
  5. It’s on a 12 ft blank no name on the rod but they compliment each other
  6. I inherited this from my father in law when he passed on its a doosey ,still set up for luderick when he last used it in 2007 it needs a clean up and new hooks before I use it i originally thought it was a side cast but then realised it was centre pin
  7. Bit like fly fishing just getting the action worked out
  8. Hi jamo well I figured centre pins are very English the Wallis cast looks as challenging as changing gears in a truck 😱 my rod is getting restored so when I get it back I will start practicing might leave it as a ludrick set up
  9. Just looked up casting a centre pin thanks zoran 👌
  10. I had to cut the second set of pictures down due to size
  11. left one is the wooden reel right one is an alvey model 35 modified with no side turn feature
  12. Hi all A stupid question I have this wooden reel that looks like an alvey you can’t turn it sideways to cast like an alvey do I just click the ratchet off, hold the line against the rod and cast gently letting go of the line to use the momentum I have tried you tube but no luck thanks greg
  13. Thanks guys the only disappointment was my outboard Johnson 35 hp seahorse didn’t want to go over 3 knots Motor wouldn’t respond from throttle it just come back from the workshop so it’s going back in tomorrow afternoon for another look over hopf it’s only minimal
  14. We took our boat out today for the first time not much just a few small squire then low and behold the wife gets a flathead it was very cranky and jabbed her a few times before we let it go we wrapped it in a tea towel to get the hook out less stress on me and the fish any way it was a nice way to spend time with family on lake Mac
  15. Hi can anyone recommend a rod restorer in Lake Macquarie/Newcastle area I need new runners and a tidy up thanks greg
  16. Hi zoran thanks for your reply the tank is as old as the boat mid 1980,s the fuel was put in in 2010 ish it’s getting tipped out before I go for a run and will be mixing either 95 or 98 at 50:1 there is a gauge on top of the tank so I will do as you said take note of fuel rate slow ,planing and general running around
  17. Can’t wait to get out on the water Wife wants to go out this week when it stops raining Out of curiosity how much fuel does a 1980,s 35 hp Johnson 2 stroke burn an hour about 3 to 5 litres an hour? to keep fuel fresh I was only going to fill the tank about halfway and make a fresh mix every time I go out
  18. Hi all i wired the Garmin in and fitted a push pull knob to the positive wire ,there was a hole near the throttle Bracket so I used this saves drilling 😁 with the transducer the instructions said to keep away from electrical wiring as it may interfere with the reading I have the Transducer cable tie clipped to all the other cables including the power lead for the Garmin at the moment is this good enough not to cause electrical interference? Thanks greg
  19. Thanks for the info i will get into it tomorrow and Sunday And see how it goes there are a few loose wires under the dash as well so I will tidy them up and see were they go 👌
  20. Hi We inherited a Boat (savage ranger) and Bought a Garmin striker plus 4 to use in it we will be using it on Lake Macquarie through the week on my days off my question is when I wire it do I run both positive and negative leads straight to battery as it has a fuse on the positive already ,Also do I need to run the positive through a toggle switch or would that be over kill thanks heaps greg
