  1. an update pulled carb apart found the choke check valve ball bearing is missing and the diaphragm pin was bent and missing it's port. also found fuel in carb float, not much but replaced anyway. New carb kit fitted and all is fine now. next to no smoke now and no oily unburnt fuel from exhaust. info may help some one else. cheers
  2. it does idle a bit but I mainly do small 5 minute sprints to next fish spot in the river. It runs great on full throttle, idle is a little rough but OK. I was interested in the black dripping oil stain out the 2 exhaust ports at rear of motor and in water when flushing in bucket looks like an excess of oil in fuel mix but i know its at 50-1 I will try some low smoke oil and give it a flogging next time out fuel air mix screw is an easy tune, screw in till starts to idle rough screw back out till idles rough screw back in 1 -1.5 turns, this is what I read online, happy to be correted I will pull the plugs and see what they look like as well I have a 2000 Johnson 9.9 spare as well if things go pear shape. thanks for all the input gents
  3. might try a carb clean and see how that goes. seems to smell rich when running was going to try some low smoke 2 stroke oil as well. cheers
  4. Hey there, I have taken ownership of a 1998ish 8HP Mariner that goes well but is quite smokey. When running up the river it goes really well but at idle quite a bit of smoke blueish in colour. There is black oil stains down the back ports as well. Starts easy and has enough power to keep me happy. Comp is around 70 on each cylinder. Rings or carb needs a clean and setting? I put new plugs and fresh fuel 50/1 Any tips? Cheers.
  5. This mot has been realy easy to start till now. tested coil and got 100 % from small terminal to earth strap and 190 ohms between lead stud and wire stud. Read on the net that this should be between 235 - 275 +-50 but not sure if these coils are the same.
  6. thanks F2F, I have pulled the plugs and they were wet so fuel getting through. no spark across plug when earthed to case and pulling starter cord.
  7. Took the tinny out this morning for an early bass session. Motor (Evinrude 9.9 1986 model) started as normal, warmd up for a few mins. Took of and made about 50 meter and then motors just stopped, no splutter just stopped. Tried to start for a while and then gave up and used the troll motor to fish close to ramp for a hwile before calling it. Got home pulled plugs and they where wet, dired and tested for spark and nothing. So do I go for coils or CDI or both? Anyone had anything similar to this?
  8. as mentioned above I have tried the trim pin all holes and nothing changes I thought the highest hole would make the motor push bow up, it does on my bigger boat. very strange I have a 40 on my bigger boat but i think it won't fit, just taken the pss
  9. heading off for 7 dyas camping/trout fishing so will do some more testing when I get back thanks for the ideas
  10. it was a500 buck specail
  11. I will get a pic of it I have a troll motor hanging off the front and have made a front floor and middle floor have a big troll battery and 25 lt fuel tank at back + me! I have tried the pin in all available positions but notthing seems to change. thought moving weight to front/middle would make things worse but I ma no expert. Boat is very light weight and mount area seems flimsy to me.
  12. Bought a 11ft tinny with a 9.9 Evinrude motor run really well but I can't get the tinny to stay up on a plane at half throttle the front initially jumps up and the levels out and goes along OK, but if you throttle on more the boat front starts plouging and heaps of wash start coming up the side from the front I have moved the tilt pin in both directions but does not make any diff. any tips on what is going on
  13. Kowmung trout Some New England trouty spots we are heading to aftre long weekend
  14. Fish River pics from years ago Camping at the reserve at Oconnell next to river (pre camper trailer days). One of many pools to fish. Nice brown next to my size 12 boot! Caught plenty on fly and on hard body minnows
  15. Mate have not been there since we moved up here nearly 10 years ago. Fish River at Oconnell/Tarana has a free camp reserve next to the river. We stayed there heaps, can get busy in school and long weekend Duckmoloi is nice place to camp but a 4WD or Subaru AWD is good to have. Things may have changed since i was there, plenty of tiger snakes! Fished the Kowmung a few times which is nice
  16. my pups finding first sun rays after a - 12 night at Ebor still make me laugh.
  17. Mate I use to camp and fish at Oconnell/Tarrana for years. We use to camp at the Fish River Reserve and one night it got down to -7, the condensation in the tent froze on the roof and the weight pulled the tent sides in, man that was to the bone cold. Fish River can produce some good browns and bows as does Phill's Falls and the Duck. Make sure you go down pass the red rattler if you can. We really miss camping out there it was fantastic times. We were lucky enough to know a farmer that owned most of one side of the river there from the dirt road river crossing down so ended up getting to camp in his paddocks. Now we go to Styx River at Ebor, very tight fishing hard for fly. Going for 8 days in a few weeks. another vote for stream fishing, love it and the scenery. Lots of snakes though
  18. Thanks guys, the river i will mainly use it in is only 2-3 meters deep with deep holes here and there which is what i need to identify. heaps of fallen tree snaggs so lots of work on the edges, not much rock structure though. fish identifying when at trolling speed will be handy. water temp could be a bonus i suppose.
  19. thanks for the info Kingy I nearly bought one for 150 but it got snaveled before i could do any research. Maybe lucky. Tinny only has a 9.9 on it so speed won't be an issue. just putting around with an eye on the finder.
  20. Setting up a small tinny for bass fishing in small shallow river and want a cheap fish finder for it. No need for GPS just depth and fish + good screen. Hook2 5 HDI look OK but seem to be lots fpr sale which concerns me that there may be issues. Any recommendations would be great. used is fine but don't want to spend more than 250-300. cheers
  21. Back paddocks at my place run along Warrell Creek. I launch the yak from there, looking at a small cheap tiny soon to leave down there. Have to take the bigger boat around go the ramp at Scotts Head Reserve. How clear is the water bewteen Gumma and Nambucca, can be tough fishing.
  22. where abouts do you camp, Gumma or Way Way reserve
