Hi all. Checked search but couldn't locate anything in direct response or otherwise fairly old. Just wondering how to go about selecting 3dss vs 3in1 for those who ideally have used both, but either/or would undoubtedly shed some light. What I have been told is 3in1 will provide better picture but shorter range, whereas 3d has longer range I think 800khz v 455khz. Obviously 3in1 doesn't have 3d, but both have side and down imaging The questions arising from this include (but certainly not limited to) What kind of depths in reality are we talking about effectiveness and usability with each unit What kind of distance to the sides Are fish able to be identified on either How useful is the 3d and in what circumstances while fishing If you are looking at a wreck just as an example, would both not show where it is in relation to boat, its orientation etc... just trying to understand the fundamental benefits or use cases one has over the other What kind of criteria should be used in deciding between the two

Yeh I try stay a little loose otherwise becomes tedious to maintain. So long as types are together like sinking stick baits, shallow and deep divers that's alright. I guess from there you can easily extract any type for any fish for a day trip etc

Yeah 100% trick is to avoid any temp extremes either way. I am lucky in that while in storage its shaded and there is good general ventilation etc

Depends what's being targeted and what action there is I guess, but agree in principle. That is the reason I might just keep a few trays on the boat one for a different species at any time, keep what I like and discard what I don't. Then rotate lures every few sessions and repeat.

Thanks for that. You have a benefit of having trailer boat, in that you can keep everything in garage and just stock what you need and drive off. Having boat stored means more lugging around and becomes impractical and a pain. So I'd rather have a selection permanently on boat for sure, but just trying to figure out a system. I want to rotate use of different lures rather than letting them get dust in a cupboard, but at same time don't want to store loads on the boat or lug too much around and force myself to different lures and techniques, rather than spending half my time deciding what to throw out next

Yeh fair enough. All my fishing is from boat and not limited to 1 or 2 species, so have a lot of variety. That's why was thinking of keeping broad handful selection permanently on boat divided by species. Then have all else at home by type, that I just take whatever may be relevant for a given day. That way more space on boat and less clutter on mind. Still trying to work out best solution.

Yeh but how many containers? Do you sort by style I.e surface, sinking etc or by species or otherwise? Do you take all your lures to the boat or only what you think you'll need? It's never a problem if all fit in a handful of containers, but when too many to practically store etc then...

Yeah I learned that lesson the hard way. My plastics live on the boat, my post related mainly to hard bodies. I keep plastics organised together in some fashion or another, but all remain in their original packs, except for the gulp variety i put in those special made plano tubs full of liquid and put a mix in there.

I know this is an age old discussion and have checked these forums too. The issue of too many lures and how to sort them out. For any boat owners who have way too many lures, what is your organisation and storage solution? I currently take everything and leave it on the boat, but find it leads to paralysis as to what to use, or too many to try out etc. Boat is not trailered its in dry docks. Was thinking of leaving a handful of plano 3700s on boat permanently as a broad selection of lures divided by species. Leave the bulk at home divided by type and then just take what I think will be useful on a trip by trip basis to supplement and have only a manageable amount. It sounds like it would free up storage and declutter every compartment I have while still being practical. Thoughts?

Maybe an odd query but has anybody tried mounting an action style type camera to their remote controlled search light for panning functionality? If so how did you do it?

Just a follow up... anybody got any recommendations on one 12inc vs two 9inch displays... preferences? Pros /cons?

Can I just ask if anybody knows Re simrad ducers. As I understand it the 3 in 1 does Sid and down scan and 2d sonar. The 3d structure scan does 3d and down and side scan like the 3 in 1 but doesn't have 2d. So ultimately by Pairing the 3d and airmar tm275lhw I'm not missing anything at all and have no need for 5100 module as structure scan is via Ethernet?

I've since spoken with a few reps and I'm seriously considering for time being (on basis of cost) forgoing any 3d or down scan type tech and going furuno tzt3 12 with a 275lhw. That gives me all I need to go fishing in any depth I frequent, while enabling me to build on the system in due course. Ultimately though it's either that or simrad. Only reason not exploring garmin anymore is its not available until feb/march next year and I won't wait. Otherwise would have definitely been major contender

Indeed. Simrad is the likely choice subject to it fitting. Reality is even if garmin was preferred it's not available till next year and furuno too costly. My comments above were just a general rant that there isn't a great difference end of the day with the major items one buys these things for

Cheers for that will measure away. Speaking of units I found you can easily over think things. Ultimately been tossing up between or at least comparing Raymarine pro 12rxv, Garmin 8412xsv, Evo3s 12 and TZT312. I guess logical thing is first thinking about intended use and minimum feature set you need or highly desire and start the process and once done compare pricing, dimensions etc etc of short-listed units. In having done so to some degree it is apparent that GENERALLY SPEAKING 8n substance there are no clear preferences. Example, I don't want a sluggish unit, I want good resolution display enough that I don't say "I wish it was brighter", 1kw dual channel chirp, some sort of down and side scan/3d for visualising soundings and structure, plays well with things like say Fusion Stereo and vhf (although not critical), ... the usual really. All do this with their speed of processor, transducer options, customisations blah blah The only real notable differences that I could see was garmins gt51 has better depth penetration than other brand specific ducers except for furuno. Furunos dff3d gives great 3d rendering and marking to at least 250m.. other side and down scans probably good to 40m or so Charting also. I'm used to navionics and like it but played with garmin yesterday and do not mind it's charting at all I found it nice and detailed. I also found some use for the 3d and fish eye type styles in the garmin in different circumstances its nice I like the fish reveal and all have shaded relief etc I like the completeness of customisation of furuno and its ui most I have been underwhelmed by raymarine and used to own an axiom but not sure if pro models have improved it much Then there is cost ... all on par except for furuno. If you could just use dff3d for all depths of fishing it may close gap on price... now I'm thinking about it you probably could use the dff3d as your only Sonar why not it provides all info to over 200m... not sure Garmin not available till February not sure I can wait until after summer Then need to consider which actually fits Ultimately it's not really the big substantive things that differ it's the small ui features customisations etc that all add up and each different unit has some pros and cons making them quite comparable which is what makes it a little difficult Anyway that's my crude summary of a rant for whoever is interested and even better who can correct me and point out other things

Yes thanks for that cut out is one thing but need to account for plugs too. I think I need to dial in on unit to buy and then get to measuring everything before I buy. Thanks all for the comments

My boats dash at helm from behind dash to closest obstruction is about 11cm or so. Simrad for example has clearance of close to 10cm for 12inch. That's cutting it fine but accounting for thickness it should be fine. The 9inch has 9cm clearance. As for width of unit definitely fine As for height I know the cut out is within the helm dash area but it's mighty close. I really don't want less than 12inch so definitely need to look into that.

One thing I gotta figure out is if the 12 fits. I know the garmin footprint is smaller than simrad as it the cut-out. Am I right in saying that so long as cut out fits within the dash then she should be right? I noticed the 12 on my dash when measuring is completely fine width wise but height, there is like a 4mm overhang on two edges because my dash curves a bit at the top. So definitely cut out fits and clearance behind is fine might just replace the dash with a 2cm higher starboard cover and should be okay but I'm hesitant until I get someone who knows what they are doing to check

I have had some good success on the Jackson bottom magic lures. Atomic hard 40 are good for bream. There are a handful of other Jackson ones that are great for flathead. The double clutch 60 too

Yeah sweet. Those Boat shows were the good old days. The evo3s 12 icom m506 vhf airmar 185hw and 3 in 1 duper all about 7k which I think is good value and all I really need for fishing and cruising. I do like keypad. Can Get it on garmin too just a separate item. I think 8412xsv g51 and airmar ducers with vhf prob on par in price. If you add p30 prob adding 3k. Not sure if ais in icom overlays on garmin I know it does on simrad
